Yet another day, spying in Ferravale...

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

FV:Tavern

Outside a sign swings on a rusty creaking frame above the doorway of the tavern depicting a faded painting of what appears to be three rather rich looking skeletons slumped over a table around a black chalice, perhaps such a thing could be taken as a warning but it doesn't appear to work on the locals. The noise within on a normal day is usually heard before the door is even opened and only rises in volume when one actually steps inside.

There are the typical qualities of a tavern within, from the bar to the chairs and booths and the odd drunk who never seems to move it's the little details which encourage a patron to pay his tab if he likes his fingers. One look at some of the staff or customers might give the impression but the room is decorated to the fiercer tastes with bones, mostly skulls cropping up here and there to fill a gap on a shelf or decorating the walls above the doorways, fireplace and bar, a pair of axes joining the one over the fire with some signs that they've been yanked off to join in a fight a couple of times. Some of the comfier chairs are lined with fur and very rarely one might be found with a few pointed bits of bone to decorate the back. Despite the looks there is entertainment and fun to be had, some form of music usually played on a small stage in the corner and at least one bouncer usually tries to keep the peace while beasts gamble, drink and be merry.

A small door behind the bar leads out the back to the kitchen and cellars while one wall has been opened up in a wide arch to increase the space off into the next room where what seems to be a wooden fence with gates on either end has been set up as a fighting pit as further entertainment and something to bet over.

Estella pushes open the door to the tavern and slips in, she is on duty right now so no drinks for her as she leans on a wall and glances around the tavern.

Lenore is sitting by the bar, watching the beasts in the room. Seeing Estella enter, she offers a cheerful nod.

Estella nods a hello, "Hi, you must be new here I be guessing."

Lenore smiles as best as a bird can. "Yes, I am. My name is Lenore."

Estella smiles, "My name is Estella, one of the guards here."

Lenore looks interested. "One of the guards? That sounds like a hard job."

Estella shrugs, "It could be, so far it hasn't been. But just have to stay alert and eye out for trouble, patrol the village and that sort of thing"

Lenore nods and clacks her beak. "I'm thinking of maybe joining the guards. Do you think a bird could do it?"

Estella says, "I dont know, would have ta ask the chieftain on that he is the boss."

Lenore nods, then turns to the bar and orders a bowl of October ale. "Would you care for some tea, since you're on duty?" she asks the rat. "I'll pay."

Estella shakes her head, "I will just get an ale later, try not to do too much when on duty and when off enjoy an ale while I draw."

Lenore smiles as she pays the barkeep. "You draw? How lovely. What do you draw?"

Estella says, "Draw different beasts I see around the village, and when I traveled drew alot too of beasts I seen in taverns, outside on the road or in the woods, finally settled down in one place ta live...here."

Lenore nods and smiles her thanks to the barkeep. Turning back to Estella, she asks, "Would you care to try your paw at a bird? I'm willing to pay you."

Estella thinks. "I could maybe, usually after seeing a beast a couple times I can draw them fairly well."

Lenore clacks her beak again and sips her ale. She then asks, "Do you know your way around this fair village? Even when I fly I seem to get lost."

Estella answers, "I know some places, how to get to the guardhouse and the houses, there is a market area south of here in the village"

Lenore nods and seems to think. "I hear there is a Seer nearby. Does this beast live in town?"

Estella asks, "I have yet to really meet any Seer, why do you ask?"

Lenore blinks, smiling slightly mysteriously. "I wish to have my future told."

Estella says, "Oh, sounds interesting...not sure I want mine told or not"

Lenore shrugs. "It is rather disturbing the first time you get it." She takes a good drink of her ale and glances around the room.

Estella says, "Well maybe the seer will show up some time and you can talk to them."

Lenore nods, then changes the subject (again). "Would you mind showing me the way to the guardhouse, so if there is an emergency, I know where to go ?"

Estella chuckles "You are pretty curious of the village, just go to the gates and tell a guard, always guards at the gate at all times and other places, in here too to break up bad fights."

Lenore chuckles aswell. "I guess that is because I'm a raven. And thank you." she sips her ale, then orders a plate of scones.

Estella says, "The guards are always there to help if needed."

When the scones arrive, Lenore pays the server and holds the plate out to the ratguard. "Would you care for 1?"

Estella shakes her head, "No, I must be going now, talk later perhaps."

Lenore nods. "Later, then." she begins to nibble on a scone.
