Winter Comes to Ferrevall

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

Winter has come to Ferrevale. Unfortunately it does little to cool off the temper of certain beasts...

Cold. That is the only word to describe this day out in the market place. The city of Ferrevale is buried under snow and ice. At least the wind isn't acting up, yet. Still, things need to be done, food needs to be bought and coats are practically flying off the shelves. Unfortunately for Fargo he has very in the little of coats. The obese weasel is sitting behind his stall of trinkets with his right paw lifted onto a cushion. He has a bored look on his face as a brown furred vixen wanders into the market place. Xia is regretting her choice of a wardrobe that leaves her middle exposed, as well insulated as it is. The vixen shivers with her tail wrapped around her legs, letting her halberd lean against her shoulder. "W-why d-did winter have t-to come so soon!" She whines, even though in reality it came rather late this year.

The marketplace is filled with shivering shoppers searching for suitable objects of warmth. However, Blisa and Ferdinand are very well bundled up. and are only here to buy supplies for food. A small but dangerous guard rattess and a large male stoat are accompanying the kitten and her bodyguard, and the four of them are laughing and chatting like good friends. A hulking fox peers out from under his cloak as he stops by Fargo's stall, watching the kitten as he pretends to be interested in the wares in this stall.

The weasel's mood brightens up at the possibility of filling his coin coffers. Even though order not to do so the weasel stands up, trying not to put weight on his injured paw. "Good afternoon sir! How can I help you? Looking for something special of the misses or looking for something for your self?" The weasel chitters in a joyful tone. Fargo has come a long way from the shy beast he was.

The hulking fox turns to the weasel, slightly startled, then he grunts and lays down more than enough coins for the necklace he's just picked up. "Yeah, sure." He moves back as the group of four beasts come up and Blisa squeals in delight over the trinkets therein. Ferdinand glances back, and his smiles dissapears as the fox slams into him, knocking him over the counter. The kitten screams as the fox snatches her. Ferdinand roars and struggles ot get out of the tangled cloth he's gotten tangled up in. The stoat fights ot draw his claymore, then groans and slumps ot the ground as the fox hits on the head. The rat draws her knives and slashes at the fox's belly.

Fargo's head snaps up as he scoops up the coins into his coffers. He can only stare in shock as the fox launches an unprovoked attacked at the mayor's daughters bodyguards. Wait...he recognizes that fox...what is with foxes these days? Does something about the weasel cause them to go berserk? Ever since the whole Nightfur affair the weasel keeps a small bow gun under his stall but is too stunned to even think about using it. Xia how ever only hesitates to shout with excitement. "FINELY!" the pudgy vulpine says with glee at the prospect of a fight. Maybe she will even get paid for this one she thinks as she dashes across the snowy market place. Unfortunately it will take another moment to get there.

Blisa screams in pain as the fox squeezes her, causing her to stop fighting. The rat yells as she is tossed into a wall and the fox turns to leave, then growls as he sees Xia headed his way. Ferdinand roars again, leaping up, his eyes red with fury. He launches himself over the counter, drawing his saber in one fluid, graceful motion, and he attacks the fox's unprotected back, causing him to roar with pain. The kitten, tears streaming down her face, desperately does the one thing she can...she cranes her neck down and bites the fox's paw. HARD. The rattess stands wobbly back up and charges again.

At the last moment as she crosses the distance between them Xia tips her halberd into the snow, but pushes forward with the other end of her weapon, hoping to smash the fox in the face with the blunt end of a stick. She also off course attempts to knee the other vulpine below the belt.

The fox coughs and grunts as the knee makes contact, then yells as the stick hits him square in the jaw. Ferdinand expertly attacks with his saber as Blisa falls to the ground, and the rat picks her up and leaps to behind the counter and starts to tend to the coughing, weeping-from-pain kitten. The stoat groans as he starts to came to. Meanwhile, the fox has drawn his claymore and is fighting back, slicing down at Xia.

Holding her staff defensively Xia catches the sword blade at the hilt. Then leans forward around the blade to smack the fox again on the side of the snout. With the but of her weapon trying to connect with the vulpine's head she takes a step back and sends the business end of the curved halberd towards the fox's stomach.

The fox coughs as his stomach is sliced open. Holding his bleeding belly with one paw, he weakly swipes first at the other fox, then at Ferdinand, who easily ducks and slits his enemy's wrist. Blisa screams and and sobs as the rat discovers that one of her ribs is broken. Blood squirts at Xia's face as Ferdinand's saber makes contact.

Fargo watches with his head barely peeking over his stall as the heavy set fox takes a step back, narrowly dodging the weak blade thrust by her opponent. She begins to twirl the end of her halberd to the side, "Had enough foxy fun picking on small defenseless kittens or shall we prove just how gutless of a coward you are?" Xia's voice is excited from the adrenaline rush of combat, but she isn't bloodthirsty enough that she hopes the fox will take her up on her offer and continue to attack.

he fox growls and rushes the other vulpine, then stumbles from blood loss. Ferdinand, tears coursing down his face at the sounds of pain emanating from Blisa, stabs down at his enemy, and the saber tip embeds itself into the fox's neck, making the flow of his life out of him that much faster. "You don't meth with my charge." The rat holds the weeping kitten close in Fargo' stall.

Xia takes a step back from the fox as he gets up. She cringes as the fox is finished by the Freddy. What a grizzly way to go. Fargo looks away as the finely blow is given

Ferdinand sniffs and turns away, slicing off and flicking up a piece of the fox's cloak, deftly catching it, wiping his blade clean of blood, and sheathing the sword. Dropping the cloth, he leans over the counter and holds his arms out to the rat. Blisa is transferred over with a cry of agony, and her bodyguard dashes off to the infirmary. The rat enlists a few other guards and they drag off the injured stoat and the dead fox.

Fargo can only stare in abject horror. The snow on the market place is still stained red from where the large fox met his end. Xia trots across the snow to Fargo's stall of trinkets. "Hey hon, you mind passin me a cloth to wipe myself down with?" The weasel takes a step back from the heavy set vixen before pulling a cloth rag out and handing it to her. "I...I think I am going to be sick..." The weasel wonders off for a moment clutching his stomach. Xia just rolls her eyes, "Light weight." as she first wipes off her snout and face then starts to clean her halberd.

Scioto steps into the village market place, unaware that anything happen just earlier that day, he nods to a cart selling fish and then heads closer to where Fargo is.

Fargo brushes past the chieftain, one paw clutching at his muzzle. He darts behind the corner of an alley way and dissapears. Xia shakes her head as she finishes cleaning off her weapon. "I guess some beasts just arn't cut out for warrior life." She says aloud, then says to Scioto, "Think he will want this rag back?"

Scioto arches an eyebrow"There was a fight I am guessing?" He looks around, "Any problems from the storm..damage anywhere?"

The pudgy vulpine gives a jolly laugh, "I'm afraid I'm too new here to say ifin the storm damaged the town or not." The fox's laughter decreases in volume as she continues. Xia wouldn't have gone into the body guard business if she was offended by fighting, but she isn't a complete monster either. "Some idiot fox started a fight in the market square," she gestures to the red stain in the snow, "Not entirely sure 'why'. One should be a good fighter if they wish to start fights with the guards."

Scioto hmms, "I see..well it is a vermin village after all, fights happen here alot more than beasts think they do"

Xia shrugs, "Aye, true that. Wasn't expecting to gut some poor beast today, but I couldn't stand back and let him make off with some fair kitten lass either." The fox leans her halberd across her chest and offers a paw to shake with the other, "Call me Xia. Body Guard and adventurer for hire."

Scioto nods and blinks, "Kitten? What kitten was almost taken?"

The fox shrugs as she rubs the back of her neck, "I dunno, the small fluffy kind? White with brown...no, black patches on the eyes."

Scioto frowns and then glares, he scans the area and then calms "Someone tried to harm Blisa!"

Xia tilts her head to the side and smiles, "I take it you know her?" The fox pauses to examine the cat, then snaps her claws. "I should have seen the resemblance. You must be her father or...uncle?"

Scioto says, "I am Blisa's father, her mother is saddly dead, she has no uncle but does have an aunt whom I have no clue where she is"

Xia nods, "I see. Well your daughter suffered no harm. Her body guards are to be commended for their excelent work. I know how tough that can be on a beast, knowing that some vile monster threatened to bring harm to your kin." Xia walks forward, patting the cat on the shoulder she says, "So we can discuss the bill for me helpin them out tomarrow." The vixen smiles as she walks past, her tail swooshing agianst the snow under paw as she leaves.

Scioto glares a little at the word bill he then heads to go check on Blisa.
