~ Kiln ~

.................

A wooden stall sits on the side of the path kattycorner to the smithy.

Inside is a pottery kiln made from a solid stone boulder which has been hollowed out.

A door is set on the front on hinges and inside is a stone shelf so clay projects

can be set on it rather than directly in the fire below.

Wood is piled up under the shelf inside this stone oven.

When in use the fire underneath bakes the clay items on the shelf

above hardening them into useful pottery items.

To the left of the kiln are five vats for storing clay.

Color coded fitted clay lids keep the storage pits clear of impurities.

According to the lids the pits store: Red, Orange, Brown, Green and Yellow clay respectfully.

To the right of the kiln is a wide vase or urn for storing the ashes and pottery shards from the fire.

Above of the urn's lid hangs a rope which works the bellows.

The bellows for the kiln were copied from the bellows in the smithy.

At the other end of the stall a few feet from the kiln is a potter's wheel.

Behind the wheel is a small square table with clay jars and sorted tools laid out on it.

The vase by the kiln and the clay jars on the table are decorated in oranges and reds

each with a black bas-relief of moles either at work or play wrapped around them.

................

It is a cool crisp cloudless morning. The half dead grass around Moledeep is covered in a light layer of frost which is quickly melting away. William is out in the kiln working at his wheel, the kiln's blazing fire keeps the rat warm on such a chilly day.

Christopher. He's got on a thick pair of trousers, a big pair of boots, a heavy coat, a scarf and a hat, making him look like Kentar at first when he comes around, but the fact he has two eyes gives it away. "Mmf Willf..." he then pulls down the scarf from his mouth. "Hey Will."

The rat was also bundled up when he left the tunnel but due to the heat from the kiln he's removed his cloak for the time being. He doesn't mind the cold too much so the occasional stray breeze is of little bother to him. "Hello," he greets his younger nephew without looking up from his work.

Chris gets up close to the fire and holds out his paws. "Nice and warm in here." he smirks a little then looks to Will. "What are you doing?" he asks, tilting his head to the side slowly.

"Working," the rat says shaping a pitcher as it spins on the wheel. He still hasn't looked at the stoat but he is listening to him. "What are you doing out here?" he asks,"Besides getting warm."

The stoat tilts his head a little. "Working on what?" he asks then ohs, shrugging. "I figured I'd get out and go for a walk." he nods. "And then I saw the smoke from the kiln and figured I'd come say hi." he pauses. "Hi!"

"Hi," Will echoes slowing the wheel, "Go for a walk? Were you in somebeast's way and they threw you out here?" he jokes.

Chris blinks. "How did you know!?" he asks then smirks a little. "Yeah, sorta. Syla was getting a crazy so I figured I'd leave Rob to deal with that." he smirks.

William hms to himself. "Probably for the best," he says molding a handle for the pitcher as he talks to the stoat.

Chris smirks a little and nods. "Yeah. Probably." he then tilts his head. "So. What are you making?" he asks.

"Water pitcher," the rat says grafting the handle onto the pitcher. Once it's on good it cuts the pitcher off the wheel by sliding a lenght of wire under it and across the top of the wheel. Will turns around and picks up a oven paddle to transfer the pitcher to the kiln. "Stay back out of th way," he orders Chris.

Chris ohs and nods slowly, starting to step back, watching the rat work. "Has anyone ever told you you're really good at that sort of stuff?" He asks with a chuckle.

"Since I was much younger than you. Helps that I enjoy it," Will says grinning, as he slides the pitcher laden paddle into the kiln and sets his work in the fire.

The stoat smirks a little and nods. "Yeah." Christopher replies before thinking as he sits down. "I was wondering." he says. "I was trying to think of ideas for gifts for Rob and Sy's wedding when they finally have it. Any ideas?" he asks.

William lowers the paddle and presses the end against the floor as he leans on it. The rat thinks a while before answering the stoat, "Well, I'm not sure what they'd want. What are you good at?"

Chris thinks for a few moments and then laughs a little. "Being annoying. Dad says I'm a good writer. Maybe I could write them a book or...something." he shrugs.

William laughs, "Eh, why don't you start with somethin' a bit shorter. Want it t be done before they get married."

Chris blinks and laughs. "Yeah, I suppose it would take a while to write a book." he hums a little.

William says, "Yes it would."

Chris thinks for a few moments and then nods. "No idea what I'd do then." he shrugs a little.

"You could write a poem or a short story," Will suggests, "Or help somebeast make something else. Like help your parents bake or somethin'."

Chris ohs and then grins. "I could bake their cake!" he nods. "That would be cool." he thinks for a few moments. "Yeah. That's what I'll do!"

William chuckles, "That sounds like a plan. Better talk to your mum an dad about it first," the rat says. He waves his paws at the stoat as if to shoo him out of the kiln, "Why don't you go ask em before they start their own plans for th cake."

Chris pulls up his scarf and muffles some sort of reply out before he turns and waddles off, which is all he can do in his boots.
