Trouble heading back

--At Rafe’s Den---

Leon coughs as he lies on the homemade cot and looks over at the fire pit listing to the fire crackle and watching the flames.

Rafe enters the hut and sets to work with his collect of herbs, enough for maybe couple days, he mixes them up and places them in some water, with a little mint this time and walks over to Leon, “Drink” He says calmly and watches as if to make sure the mixture is indeed drank.

Leon does as he is told and drinks the mixture, this time getting most of it down and hands back the empty cup as lays back on the cot.

Rafe takes the cup and sits it aside, he starts to clean some fish he has and gets to cooking some wild greens, “Making dinner, be good idea to try and eat kid”

Leon nods as he listens, “I..I can eat something I am hungry, look when can I go home, need to get back and I have been here almost 4 days so far.”

Rafe nods and finishes cleaning and gutting the fish and starts to cook them, soon the fish and greens are done and he starts to make two plates, he even adds a couple cherries to each plate, “Cherry trees grow by de river, usually pick em and they stay fresh fairly well..here” He gives one plate to Leon and the other is for him.

Leon nods his thanks and eats the meal quietly.

Rafe finishes his meal and gets out his pipe filling it as he speaks, “As for home, soon I think, need to make sure the fever is gone first.” He feels for a temperature and also checks breathing.

Leon’s breathing is better and his coughing has cleared up a good deal, his fever also is gone.

Rafe nods and offers a..well sort of smile, “Give it another day or so, then should be ok, promise”, He takes a couple puffs, “Oh saw de fox, the white furred one.”

Leon frowns, “You didn’t harm him did you?”

Rafe rolls his eyes, “No, didn’t, but it doesn’t mean I trusts him, far from it, hate foxes still, did prevent a stoat from stabbing him in the back, not sure why I did but whatever, then I left and refused to let him follow me back here.”

Leon nods, “Thank you for not harming Flicktail.”

Rafe snorts, “Whatever..now rest, taking you back to that abbey before that Flicktail tries to find me and ends up dead in one of me traps, which can easily happen as I am the ONLY one that knows the safe path to and from the den back to the main road.”

Leon nods and lets sleep overtake him.

• • • • NEXT DAY*****

--Along the dirt road—

Leon is slowing down his walking speed but still doing fairly well for walking the past 4 hours, including the couple times they rested for half an hour, he keeps a thick warm cloak around himself.

Rafe is helping the mouse down the road as its maybe mid-day and they are almost at the abbey, he looks around on the road for signs of trouble.

Leon keeps up and looks around, he coughs a little as they near the abbey, he keeps the thick cloak tightly around himself.

As the two walk along the road they are watched by a couple rats, part of a small robber group and seems they want to rob the beasts they see and those beasts happen to be Leon and Rafe, they chuckle as they step in from of them, "Hey there, a fee for passing please."

Rafe stops and narrows his eyes, "This is why I hate Vermin and trusts none!”

Leon looks at each rat, he sighs, "We have no coins right now"

The taller rat grins and draws a cutlass as he walks over to the hedgehog, "Ya don't scare me old man the younger on looks at Leon and smirks, "It’s a Redwall beast and he looks like he don’t feel well, that’s funny right there"

Leon steps back some, "Maybe, you two need to just let us pass, alright."

Rafe narrows his eyes, "They are vermin, ya don’t reason with em', ya kill them" , With that he out right attacks the two rats.

Leon gasps at the quick attack from Rafe and frowns as he can only watch and be ready for the other rat to attack.

The rat in front of Rafe is indeed surprised and gets a deep stab to the throat and dies fairly quickly after that, the other rat goes to slice at the mouse.

Rafe laughs as the rat dies and blinks as he sees the other head to Leon.

Leon sides steps the rats blade and about slips on the ice, he shakes his head to clear it and frowns, "Behind you!"

Rafe catches the warning a little too late, he is struck from behind by the other rat, the rat looks down at the hedgehog, "Not so tough without the little hidden sword are you old man." He goes to kick him in the side, "And ya will pay for killing Nails too."

Leon stands slowly, he looks for any rock or stick, he finds a rock and places it in a snowball and throws it at the rats head to try and distract him.

Flicktail leaps up from out of the ditch brandishing his sword and saying in a flourish he had read to him in a book "Hold foul vermin, and face my wrath" he brandishes Martin's blade as he moves to protect Rafe.

The rat takes another kick at the hedgehog when the snowball hits him, he hisses low and looks at Leon, "Fine mousie, you die first.."He stops as he sees Flicktail, "Your wrath, you’re a fox."

Rafe Groans as the kick connects and he tries to crawl towards his weapon, but it’s been kicked fairly far, he groans as he sees the white fox and looks near passed out.

Leon smiles as he sees Flicktail, he carefully moves to help Rafe, mainly to check on him, he coughs a little, all the while keeping an eye on the rat.

Flicktail steps over Rafe to bock the Rat "Don't you EVER call me a vermin! I’m an OTTER” He thrusts the blade toward the rat, "Fight or run!”

The rat gets a confused look, "Otter? Ya ill or somethings and I don’t run," He blocks the sword, "I fight!" He angles his sword and goes to slice at Flicktail's right lower arm. He steps closer to the fox and further from the hedgehog.

Rafe looks at Flicktail before passing out, yep totally defenseless now.

Leon checks Rafe, he breaths a sigh of relief as he is glad he is alive, he checks the wound on the shoulder from earlier, borrowing a small cloth from Rafe to use as a bandage.

Flicktail's paw twists to parry the rat's blow, but instead of trying to slash back Flicktail attempts to slide his blade along the rats blade and punch the rat in the muzzle with his one blade's hand guard.

The rat is punched in the muzzle and spits blood, he narrows his eyes, "Let me past, Move and let me finish off the old one!"

Rafe is passed out still.

Flicktail gives his best snarl "Because I am a Abbey beast, I do not wish to kill any beast, but I will tell you this only once...leave them alone and go, They are my friends and under my protection....if you do not The only way to them is thru me and I will cut off your tail then kill you...now go and be a GOOD beast”

The rat narrows his eyes, "This is not over, the old hedgehog will pay one way or another and I am not some goodie good" He does back off and walks off laughing.

Flicktail exclaims, "You will find me sword EVER ready! And the Hedgehog will have his own ambush going with him I ever see you try to harm any beast and I will put an end to you"

The rat takes one look at Flicktail “I am-so- scared..not" He smirks and walks off into the woods leaving the group alone.

Leon watches the rat walk off and frowns, he stays beside Rafe.

Flicktail sheathes his blade and looks concerned, "How is Rafe?”

Rafe groans but stays passed out, he is breathing and has a wound on his shoulder and bruising forming where he was kicked, his staff/blade close to the ditch.

Leon answers, "He has a wound on his shoulder, will have bruising on his side, not sure when he will wake up"

Flicktail goes over and retrieves his staff, "This means something to him so I will clean it and store it...do you need some help carrying him Brother?”

Leon nods, "Help be good, Been recovering from being ill, still slight headache and strength not all the way back"

They all head back to the abbey.

--Redwall Infirm--

Flicktail whimpers as he holds the hedgehog and gets a spike in his paw.

Leon helps best he can to get Rafe to a bed.

Flicktail puts Rafe down off his back looking at the spike in his paw and licking at it.

Rafe groans as he starts to come to a little bit, he is sore, real sore from all the kicking in his side.

Flicktail tries to make him more comfortable but he has a paw full of quills.

Leon frowns, he glances at Flicktail, "Need to get the quill out, soak in in warm water...ok."

Flicktail nod nods looking like a wide eyed dibbun....he puts his paw in the water.

Rafe groans slightly as he starts to awaken slowly and blinks a couple times.

Leon cleans the hedgehogs wounds and applies healing herbs, he glances at Flicktail, “Those need out, have any pliers?" He also bandages the hedgehog’s wounds and goes over to Flicktail next, he looks tried as he does so.

Flicktail's eyes get wide, "P..P...PLIERS!? wot you gonna do with PLIERS? um..no I don't have any”

Leon sighs, "To pull the quills out of your paw...will get infected if you don’t"

Rafe opens his eyes, "Where am I?'" He grumbles weakly. He huhs.."Quills?"

Flicktail asks, " Will..will it hurt?" he asks nervously looking at the white quills.

Flicktail awaits Leon's response and says to Rafe "Why do that Rat beast dislike you so much..yer a nice enough beast

Leon says, "It may hurt some coming out but quills can’t stay in too long"

Flicktail nods and shows Leon his paw.

Leon examines the paw, and hmms, he looks around and asks a novice to find something, he is then brought pillars as he walks over to Flicktail, "Ok,...lets do this and get them out,ok?" He gets a hold of one and slowly pulls it out and does the same with any other ones as well, trying not to hurt Flicktail any more than he already probably hurts.

Flicktail yips a little but he lets Leon work, his eyes hold trust of the brother "Your paws are gentle... “

Leon nods, he then makes a sort of paste out of some herbs and puts it on the paw to helps sooth the pain and prevent infection and bring down swelling, he wraps it in bandage and smiles "There...excuse me" He gets a package out of his robe and walks over to where some hot water and mugs are, placing the herbs from the package in the mug he stirs and sits down, he takes a sip and coughs some, he sips a little more and looks at Flicktail, "Paw should feel better soon, keep bandage on 2-3 days. Let me recheck it then"

Flicktail nod nods with a smile "I been good patient. Do I get a candied hut?" he asks hopefully .

Leon shrugs, he finishes his herb drink and lays down on a cot, " Maybe later"

Leon sighs, "Still a little ill, I need to take that horrible tasting mixture for couple more days, don’t worry not contagious now fever was gone last night"

Rafe had not been fully awake till now and now starts to sit up and groans as he holds his side, "Rats. Need to..to die"

Flicktail walks over to Rafe with the quill from his paw "Um Rafe. I think this is yers”

Rafe looks at the quills, "I..can't put those back..wait why ya have me quills for!"

Leon listens as the two talk, his eyes close as he lets needed sleep over take him.
