Thieves Guild - crime and punishment

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

The arm of the law may be long, but the arm of the Thieves Guild is longer, especially for those would would do it harm.

The Golden Vixen is the center of much activity today, and most beasts lounge about at tables and drink and eat happily. However, one fox in particular doesn't seem to be enjoying his ale too much. A message that he had recieved had told him to come to this tavern. Even though he had suspected it was for a job, he had to be on the safe side and keep his guard up.

The floor board creaks as a beast walks up behind albus and pats him on the back, "Ah, why the long face Albus? It really doesn't suit you." Sibyl says as she manuvers around the fox and plops down in the seat opposite to him. The red reptile looks happy, almost joyfull. She also looks very well fed from her time in the Flavius mannor. "Fancy meeting you here."

Albus raises an eyebrow at the reptile, not at all amused by her antics. "Let's just say that I'm not having the best of days today, but it's nice to see you alive after the trouble I went through to keep you that way."

Sibyl smiles, kicking her feet up onto the table, "Oh, I feel better than alive. I squarred away my problems with the guild. Turns out, my boss never ordered that death warrent. Which brings me to topic number two." Sibyl pulls a letter from...actualy its a mystery since she only wears a tight cloth sash and shirt, and tosses the envelope to the fox, "this should brighten your day.

Albus catches the envelope before it ever hits the table, and he eyes it carefully. "Another job, I'm assuming?" He asks, turning the envelope over and using one of his claws to open it as he does. "I do hope I will actually be challenged with this one," He adds curtly. Something seems to have rubbed him the wrong way.

The lizard smiles coldly, "Let's just say that what goes around, tends to come around, especially for a certain stoat and ferret." Sibyl gets back up from the table and stretches, "Maffeo thought it would have a measure of irony to send you on this particular assignment. They are both at holed up in what they think is a safe house by the harbor. If they are not on a ship heading for the sea by sundown you are free to...well, you get the idea."

Despite his mood, Albus can't resist a smile. Now would be a fantastic opportunity to pay back two particular beasts that had caused him a considerable amount of trouble. "Well..I must say that this is a good way to considerably brighten up my day," he remarks, standing up as he speaks as well.

Sibyl salutes the fox with her left paw, "Happy hunting. Oh and tell Korudon I said hello for me." She rubs at her side where a small bandage is placed. The lizard then flags down a waiter. Times like this call for a celebration...

____________

Waves crash against the harbor of Acilida. It appears that a storm is rolling in as the sun sets. In a small warehouse near the beach two beasts lay hold up. Galyn the stoat nervously bits at his claws. He is wearing a grey cloth jacket with a short sword at his side. The ferret Korudon paces back and forth. The grey furred ferret wearsa red short sleeved jacket, leaving it open to expose his portly midriff. The warehouse around them is full of old boxes, barrels, and a half rusted spiderweb covered lamp to light the room. "Curse that Sibyl...when I get my paws on her."

"Will you give it a rest?" Galyn snaps, "We can't afford to think about her, we just need to get out of here, we...we just need to wait for the right moment to board the ship...Maffeo won't bother with us if we are out of the city...right?"

Thunder booms outside, casting a rather ominous feeling over everything. Shortly afterwards, however, several loud knocks are heard on the door. "Maintinence!" Calls a voice, as though it were an inn they were holed up in, though it doesn't seem all that farfetched that some unlucky beast would need to keep track of everything in the warehouses.

Both beasts exchange glances. "No one should know we are here..." Korudon whispers. He draws a knife from behind his jacket, pointing for the stoat to find a hiding place behind some boxes next to the door. The ferret himself leaps behind a small barrel, watching the door, waiting for signs of movement. Neither respond to the beast at the door.

The fox is greeted by silence. Galyn has his sword drawn, sweat dripping down his brow. It's finely happened. Korudon has gotten him killed...he pauses to think about this. Korudon really has caused all of this. He always liked Sibyl to be honest, but his half brother always had to drag him along in his schemes. He had promissed his family to keep Kor out of trouble but...

Fear slowly errodes into frustration, frustration turning to anger, it was Kor's fault he was in this mess! Why should he half to die for his mistakes? Finely cutting ties with the ferret Galyn turns tail and runs for the exit, knocking boxes over in his haste.

Galyn makes an eep noise as the side door comes crashing down on him, pinning the stoat to the floor. Korudon leaps out of his hiding place and around a stack of over turned boxes to find...the fox! "You!" The ferret gasps. He had been expecting an assassin to come exterminate them but...Albus? The very fox he had hired? He promises himself to reward Maffeo's sense of irony with a dagger in the back next time he sees him.

The ferret likely wouldn't get the chance to see Maffeo again. Already, Albus's daggers are in his paws, and he charges forward, aiming a thrust to Korudon's stomach with his right dagger. "Me!" He replies as he goes for the thrust. It never hurts to be humorous while killing a beast.

Korudon makes a panicked yelp as he takes a step backwards. His dodge fails however, the fox's knife sinking deep into his portly belly. Korudon drops his weapon, clutching at the blade in his gut and looks up into the eyes of his assassin. All those side jobs he took...all those assassinations, some known most not. Is...is this what his victims felt like before they died? Fear enters his heart for the first, in a long time.

Albus can't help but let a grin spread across his muzzle as he steps forward, wrapping his free paw around his victim's back and using the leverage to push his dagger deeper into the ferret up to the hilt. Leaning in so that his muzzle is right next to Korudon's ear, he whispers, "Sibyl sends her regards, mate."

Galyn manages to push the door off of himself enough to crawl out of it. His foot paw is still trapped however. He looks back in time to see Korudon fall to his knees, a look of shock, a look of hatred on his face before he crumples to the ground still clutching at the wound to his midriff. "Kor...Korudon!" The stoat becomes frantic, trying to get the door off of his paw. He needs to get out of here.

Albus slowly turns to face Galyn, his dagger slick with the blood of the stoat's half brother. "Well hello there Galyn. How I missed speaking with you." The fox's devious grin is clear enough to see, and it is filled with so much genuine pleasure that it should be enough to inspire terror in any sane beast around him.

The stoat twitches an eye he manages to pull his paw free, and begins crawling away from the fox, "W-w--wait...let's just...just talk about this. Remember how...remember how I helped you cover for Sibyl!" His paws for his short sword at his side, but its still burried under the door. "You could just let me go! You'll never see me again! I swear!"

The fox seems thoughtful for a bit, but he shrugs. "See, 'could' is a key word there. I /could/ let you go, but the question is: Do I want to?" As he speaks, he begins to walk closer and closer to the stoat, stepping over the door on his way. "I have a good bit of money plus my reputation as an assassin riding on whether or not I kill you."

Galyn is faced with three possibilities. A) he fights the fox. Which he would lose case closed, B) he runs away. Which he would have no where to go so...again, not a good idea. Or C) he bribes the assassin. Which he has no money for. The stoat stares up at the fox, eyes shaking with terror, "You...you could tell them I died! But let me go! Maffeo wouldn't care! Honest! He's cool like that!" The stoat curles up into a ball and covers his head with his paws, wrapping his tail about his legs.

Albus stares down at the pathetic stoat on the ground in front of him, and he is tempted to feel a small amount of pity for Galyn, but when he thinks about it, he finds that he no longer has room in his heart for pity. "What would be in it for me if I let you go?" He asks, his grip tightening on his dagger.

The stoat manages to open an eye. A small glimmer of hope sets in his heart. "I...I don't have the money on me but I have a stash of money back at my home. I...I just didn't get a chance to grab it before I had to, well, you know. Flee." The small stoat uncurles himself and replies, "I can tell you where it is!"

Albus raises an eyebrow at the stoat. "You really think that all I care about is the money? I've gotten enough money from other jobs combined with this one, to last me a good while. The last thing I need is more money to stop me from killing one bothersome stoat that could ruin my job here."

The stoat cowers again. Tears rolling down his eyes. Finely he stands up strait. He closes his eyes. "Then please just...just tell Sibyl I'm sorry. I never wanted to harm her." He stands at the ready, at least he will go out with some dignity, or at least so thinks the stoat.

Albus had just been about to kill the stoat, but then an idea hits him, and he allows himself a small smile. "How proficient are you at killing?" He asks suddenly, likely catching the stoat completely off guard, though that's how he liked to keep it most times.

The stoat gives the fox a terrified, if confused glance, he isn't good at it, but he isn't about to say that either, "Um...pretty...good?" He ventures.

Albus takes a few moments to think about this before sheathing his daggers. "I'll propose a deal to you then Galyn." he says finally. "If I agree to let you live, you're going to stay in Aclidia as an assassin that will be training under me."

Galyn Nino thinks about this for only a brief moment. Become an assassin and live, say no, then die. Tough choice. With out reply the stoat nods his head, yes.

_Albus chuckles softly, turning and walking straight out the door. "Come, we have a lot to do." He says over his shoulder as he goes. It seems this job had been a bit more profitable than he had expected it to be.

___________

Albus

Albus is a pure white fox with a suit of black leather armor, which contrasts quite well with his white fur. At his belt is a plethora of throwing knives accompanied by twin daggers on either side. The knives seem to go all the way around his waist, numbering about 7 in total, though they are positioned mostly on the sides so as not to restrict movement. His dark blue eyes look calm and collected, as though he is silently observing anything and everything around him as a potential use for one of his many targets.

Galyn me

Galyn Nino is a jittery example of a stoat. The stoat appears smaller than he really is in the way he crouches forward and is often seen rubbing his paws nervously. The rather scrawny beast is covered in brown fur with a light brown patch on his chest. He wears a red long sleeved button up shirt and brown pants held up by a thick leather belt. He has a knife strapped to the small of his back.
