Location: Redwall: Great hall

Characters Involved: Ekho, Flicktail, Rasta, Riverdale

Ekho Comes into the Room quietly, dragging her little teddy-badger, Wallie, with her. Quietly, she walks over to the Fire before plopping down next to it, not noticing anyone else in the room.

Flicktail instatly falls in love with the dibbun, and comes up slowly beside her, holding a wam sweet berry turnover

Ekho slowly looks up at the fox and backs away slowly, Taking her teddy-badger with her. The look on her face went from bored, to afraid in just a few seconds

Flicktail blink blinks and puts it down where she can get it, and whispers "oi be agood beast...itbe agift if ye wonts it

Riverdale makes his way to the fireplace and removes his traveling garb. After placing it on the back of an armchair, he settles into the chair himself, folding his paws across his slight midriff. He shoots Ekho a small smile and a wink.

Rasta stands near the door for a moment before he pulls his cloak from himself, using it to wrap his

bow and two quivers into a makeshift bundle before the large otter takes a seat next to Riverdale and warms himself near the fire.

Ekho looks to the food but shakes her head anyways, standing and trying to get to riverdale without being near Flicktail.

Flicktail looks broke hearted and nods "maybe soon luv...maybe

Riverdale looks strangely at Flicktail, unsure how or whether to intervene. As the little mouse dibbun approaches, he claps a friendly paw upon her back, helping her into his chair, but guiding her to his side rather than his lap. "I'm getting a bit old for that, young un," he explains affectionately.

Flicktail says, "oi doesn't loikes when everyone be frid o foxes, he doesn't approach th mouse"

Ekho sits where Riverdale directs her. His Words go unnoticed by the mouse as she sort of points at

Flicktail. "Why is there...fox in good place?"

another mouse dibbun appears, one of teh ones Flicky cares for and climbs into Flickys lap..he cuddles the dibbn

Rasta smiles as he watches, sliding the bundle under his feet as he turns to Riverdale and Ekho. "An' who be dis cutie?"

Riverdale brushes the fur on Ekho's head. "Ah... I don't..." he stops, holding his tongue for a moment while he crafts his words. "Ah... Redwall... this abbey is a place where all creatures who, ahh... where all creatures of good will can be safe." Patting the mouse on the back again, Riverdale says to Rasta,

"This is Ekho. She's my little friend here." Winking he adds, "We're both new."

Ekho looks to Rasta after a few moments. "M'Ekho" she replies quietly before glancing to the fox again...then the dibbun in the Fox's arms. then The fox again.

Flicktail smiles as he offers the dibbun an candied nut and the dibbun smiles and stuffs it into hi smuth..then looks over and waves to Ekho

Rasta Follows Ekho's gaze and blinks. "Wh'as wrong Ekho?"

Riverdale notices where Ekho's gaze is drifting and, pointing to the other little dibbun, he asks in a loud but conspiratorial voice, "Who's that?"

Ekho turns back to Rasta. "Fox..." she points out Flicktail again. Aside from looking worried, she looks confused on top of it...although when Flicktail Waves, she sort of waves back.

Rasta Nods. "Yah? Nah't causin' trouble, is 'e?

Flicktail doesn't wave the dibbun in his arms waves chewing on teh canided nut "this be Jeffer...e be one o e orphan dibbuns oi cares for

Ekho slowly shakes her head. "uh...Dont...think" she replies, watching. "Whats an orphan?" she looks to Riverdale.

Riverdale says impishly, "An orphan is what Flicktail cares for."

Flicktail says, "Aye"

Ekho looks over. "So...whatever he takes care of...is an Orphan?"

Flicktail says, "nay little one, it means this little one don't got no mom, andno dad....cept fer me..sso Oi loves em"

Rasta Nods. "Tis all that 'atters in de end."

Flicktail smiles to Rasta

Ekho sort of ignores Rasta and Riverdale for now. "oh...I have no...mom...or dad..." she replies

Flicktail says, "well then Oi loves ye too....if ya want oi kin elp cares for ye"

Ekho ums a bit then looks to Riverdale for a moment. "Me want him to care for me?" She asks sort of...

Riverdale squeezes Ekho's shoulder, "That's up to you, Ekho."

Rasta watches the exchange with a half smile.

Riverdale peers down through his spectacles at the quiet dibbun.

Ekho ums..."Me wants Riv-dale" she replies looking back to the fox a moment later

Flicktail says, "well oi won't stopes ye precious..." rocking and tickling teh dibbun in his arms"

Riverdale says quietly, "Ekho..." He clears his throat softly. "I, ah... may have to... to go someday. I'll

be your friend, but you may need someone who, who can take good care of you. I'm just an old squirrel, an' not much use to anyone."

Flicktail says, "ye be a use ta me"

Head darting up to look at the fox, Riverdale says, "Ah? How's that, Sir?"

Ekho looks back to Flicktail then to riverdale. "Go..where? can I come?"

Flicktail says, "ye ave lots o knowledge, lots oi kin learns"

Rasta starts to say something to the dibbun but decides against it, Instead he stares off into the crackling flames.

Ekho looks over to Rasta a few moments later. "Who you?" she asks quietly.

Riverdale chuckles dryly and shakes his head at Flicktail, "Ah... no, no... Old, yes... Wise..." He sighs

and rolls his shoulders back in a weary shrug.

Flicktail says, "didn say wise sir"

Rasta laughs boisterously.

Riverdale blushes and turns back to Ekho. "So, little un... Did... ah, ah, Wallie enjoy his birthday?"

Riverdale pokes the teddy-badger.

Ekho looks back to Riverdale then nods. "Yeah...he did...was really fun" She smiles, holding up the teddy-badger to Riverdale.

Riverdale touches his nose to the badger's and his glasses tumble off his nose.

Riverdale mutters, "Oh, flibbertigibbet."

Rasta blinks and catches the glasses on his tail before the break. "ca'reful.."

Ekho giggles at the squirrel.

Flicktail says, "well oi musttake i one ta bed...oi pe we kin be friends Ekho"

Ekho looks to flicktail...she sort of nods..."Maybe?"

Flicktail smiles and heads out.

Rasta plucks the glasses from his tail and hands them to Riverdale. "'ere boyo, Ye mah be needin dese."

Riverdale takes them with a grateful expression and settles them back where they belong.

Ekho adjusts so she's leaning on riverdale's Side, now staring at the otter.

Rasta Tilts his head to the side and looks at Ekho. "yis?"

Riverdale rests his head on the seat back and, for a spell, seems quite disengaged from his surroundings. He passes an idle paw over the young one's head but addresses neither her nor the otter. Every so often, a quiet word passes his lips, almost entirely inaudible apart from the occasional sibilance of a consonant.

Ekho smiles a bit. "Whats yer name?

Rasta earflicks. "Mah name's R`asta."

Ekho smiles a bit before yawning. "um...I'm gonna go to bed...someone wanna read me a bed time story?" she smiles a bit.

Rasta scratches his head nervously. "H'm not so g'd at tho's."

Riverdale stirs. "Goin' to bed, little 'un?"

Ekho Frowns a bit at Rasta before slowly nodding and turning back to Riverdale. "You tell me a bed time story?"

Riverdale frets. "A bedtime story? I, ah... I suppose I could give it a try."

Ekho smiles a bit. "please?"

Rasta chuckles and gets comfortable. "Y's. Please?”

Riverdale shifts a bit in the chair. "Ahh..." He puts a finger to the side of his mouth.

Ekho smiles a bit more. "I wanna hear the one about the Mouse on the big table cloth" she points to

the picture of Martin the Warrior.

Riverdale nods slowly and attempts to dig the story out by staring at the tapestry...

Riverdale starts rapidly, "Once upon a time, there was a, uh, a mouse with a great big sword..."

Riverdale pauses, then continues, "He lived on... an island in the middle of a great sea."

Ekho closes her eyes, laying her head on the squirrel's side, listening to the story.

Riverdale continues, "His family had lived there for, ah... a very, very long time. And they ate... great big tree berries, full of juice. And pie. They made, ah, lots of pies."

Ekho is fast asleep now, hugging her teddy-badger close, trying to curl up into as much of a ball as she can..but it doesn't really work.

Rasta chuckles. "Cute."

Riverdale pats Ekho's head and fumbles his way through the story, making things up as he goes.

"One day, Martin asked his father about the sea and, ah... about what lay beyond it..."

Riverdale peers furtively down at Ekho to see if she's really sleeping.

Ekho is really asleep. The mouse dibbun even gives off a few quiet squeaks as she does.

Rasta smiles as he shifts his bulk in the seat, his own eyes starting to get heavy as he starts to stare into the flames once more. "I think i'm going to like it here..." he yawns softly.

Just to be safe, the squirrel continues. "And, ah... Martin's father told him... he sat Martin down and told him a long tale about how his ancestors had come to live on that island... How they had fled from a faraway land when very bad beasts had attacked their village..."

Ekho continues sleeping, ear twitching every now and then. Her Grip on Wallie loosens somewhat as the teddy-badger almost falls onto the floor. Luckily, she pulls him up closer, still sleeping away.

Rasta growls softly as he falls asleep in the chair....

Riverdale's face takes on an expression of faded grief as he continues, stroking Ekho's head. "Martin's father said that the sword--Martin's sword--was the one valuable his ancestors had kept..." he smiles sleepily down at Ekho, then drifts off to sleep himself.
