The aftermath of going Splat

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

--This relates to 'Final Fight! (Torns of Steel TP Final)'. It is the aftermath of Ragg's splat practice- of course, him in the infirmary after being pushed off of the walls. Enjoy--

Shandar is using her permission to wander about inside to its full extent. She is currently seated in a window. She's longing to go outside and help cleanup from the battle, even more she wanted to /join/ tha battle, but she knew she wasn't allowed, and besides, she promised not to.

The door is opened and Ragg is carried in by a healer. He is set on a bed and looks to be in VERY bad shape. He goans quietly, and closes his eyes, trying to ignore the pain all over his body.
Shandar jumps. She was completely lost in thought, and the new patient looks /terrible./ She jumps to the ground, almost trips, and sets about bugging Sister Daisy. "What happened to him? Who did it? I saw him fightin- he fell of the walls! Will he survive? CAn I help?"
Sister Daisy sighs in exasperation. She pushes a bowl of water and a cloth at the dibbun. "He'll survive. Take this, and clean all the dirt off of him. Now be quiet, otherwise he may /not/ get better."
Ragg moans. His right leg is snapped in two places and his three broken ribs are not helping him breath any. He would clench his fists if his left shoulder and wrist where not out of joint, so he just closes his eyes tight.
Shandar sets about dabbing at the wounds. She waves a paw in front of his eyes, wondering when he'll wake.
Ragg feels the dabbing and opens his eyes a bit. He looks at the paw that is going back and fourth in front of his eyes and frowns a little. "Wha...?" He winces as he whispers this and lets his eyes rove down and settle on the dibbun. He strains his eyes to make out who she is, not wannting to move his head since his neck is feeling a bit stiff. He simply offers her a small smile.
Shandar smiles back at him "Sista Daisy says you'll be alright. I saw you fall off of the wall. Was it fun?"
Ragg starts to laugh, but quickly stops as pain lances through his sides. He shakes his head a little and croaks out. "No...not at...all."
"Do you want some water?" Shandar questions. "You can just nod." She notices that Ragg's left arm is longer than the right, and she concludes that its been dislocated. She grabs a bandage roll.
Ragg nods lightly, wincing a little as he does so.
Shandar grabs a glass of water from a nurse and holds Ragg's head up, letting him drink a little.
Ragg Flinches as his head is lifted and his stiff neck is tested, but he sips the water anyway and then lets his head rest back on the pillow, giving a sigh and whispering "Thanks." In a barley audible voice.
Shandar places the glass on the floor at the end of the bed, and weaves the bandage between the claws on his left paw. She brings the bandage up around on either side of his shoulder (front and back). She iisn;t strong enough to set joints any other way. She give the bandage ends a sharp tug, and a loud, sqealching pop is heard.
Ragg watchs her work than gets on idea of what she is doing. His eyes are pleading, not wannting to face the pain, but he is too late and as his arm is yanked a scream rips from his mouth. It can probably br heard all over the abbey.
Shandar pats his head sypathetically. "It's ok. That;ll feel better soon. I had to have my arm reset, too, when I was younger." She looks towards his leg. She doesn't know how to fix internal things like broken ribs- but legs she can do. "Sister Daisy, I re-set his arm, and I know how to set a broken limb." What she wants is evident.
Sister daisy gathers her things and trades places with the dibbun. She doesn't want to know how Shandar got to leaarn all of these things. "very well. I'll work on his ribs."

Shandar grins and takes up her new position beside his right leg. She ruins her paw along it, feeling the breaks. She runs to get some new bandage and salve.

Ragg gulps. His pain in his ribs is way more than he would like and now that beasts are trying to touch his wounds he does not seem to happy. "No." He whispers quietly.
Zork walks in sliently and lays Oz on one of the cots on the far end of the room and then sits in a chair beside him. He sighs and ends up falling asleep staying beside the cot.
Sister Daisy lays a cool cloth on his brow. "Relax now. It'l heal, but it shan't if you don't let me bandage it." She looks at the two badgers, and motions for other healers to go and help them.
Oz doesnt respond much as he is layed down, he may not even know he is home yet, he groans weakly.
Ragg nods painfuly and squeezes his eyes shut, not yet noticing the two badgers. Beads of sweat pop out on his brow. Nerves.
Shandar comes running back, almost trips on her too-big habit, but rights herself just in time. The first break has bone lying on top of bone. She tugs shards out of his flesh, dropping them into the empty water glass.
Oz groans, a couple healers quickly tend to him, he sort of groans once and tries to mutter something.

Shandar tuggs out the last bone shard and looks over her work. Suddenly, she pushes down as hard as she can on the bone, moving it into the correct spot so she can wrap it.

The scream does not stay down and it can be heard through more than just the abbey. Ragg whimpers at the pain that is now in his ribs more than ever and the numb feeling in his leg.

Sister Daisy knows that she can't really help him calm down. She finishes wrapping his chest, and gives the bandage a final tug. "Don't touch that, and don't move at all. otherwise your ribs'll never heal."

Shandar doesn't wrap the first break, but she moves on to the second. This break is a little cleaner, and she repeats the operation before she wraps the whole leg. It'll be tighter, and stay more easily, that way. She stands back, satisfied with her work. Ragg is (on the way to) fixed!
Oz opens one eye to look at Ragg, he coughs roughly and gets out .."y..y..you.."Voice very very weak.
Shandar turns, and sees the badgers. She has seen badgers before, but she's very startled. She recognizes Oz from other beasts telling the dibbun about him, and if he's home, that means that Vladmir is dead, and /that/ means..She creeps over to him, her eyes wide. "/Oz?/"
Sister daist shoos the dibbun out. "Way past your bedtime, and your bandages need changing, and I don't want you disturbing my patients. It's enough that Flicktail lets you share his bed. Go on now, get your medicine before you sleep."
Ragg gasps as the ribs are bandaged and his leg is 'fixed'. Now there is just his stiff neck to deal with. With considerable pain, he turns his head toward Oz. His eyes widen. "N...no, you!" He is suprised that the badger is still alive.
Oz looks at Ragg but closes his eyes and coughs\ Oz looks at Ragg and closes his eyes as he coughs, its clear he is weak and a little unsure maybe where he even is.
Ragg is seems anxious to ask more questions and he struggles to speak to Oz. "How....."He winces "Did you get here?" His voice is quite and he grimaces.
Oz doesn't answer he has sliped into unconiousness.
Maria is sits up in the bed that she is in "hellae...what? huh...so that means, if thae's badgers back..." she look at Ragg "um, whae are ye?"
Ragg turns his head again to face Maria, his neck still paining him. He speaks painfuly. "Ragg. You?"
Maria says, "Maria McGrove...what happend?"
Ragg Motions weakly with his bruised yet unbroken right arm to the window. "Fell......off the wall. You?" This is the second time he has asked with the word you, but he really can't say much else.
Maria says, "Ah was shot in thae sholder, almost pount blank, bae slavers for...hurting there leader...a mounth or agae...got captrerd, got frae and wanderding thae wield for tae weeks..."
Ragg frowns. "Sorry." He whispers and winces. His ribs are hurting him to much now, and he can't speak.
Maria looks at him again and leans back "aeh..faer what?"
Ragg Motion around helplessly. "For....what...." He takes a small breath and shudders in pain. "happened." He uses as few words as possible, but he means he is sorry about what happened to her.
Maria says, "ahh..well, Ah'm sorry faer ye tae..."
Ragg nods his thanks than lets his eyes close. He is tired and soon he drifts off to sleep.
