This is in response to 'Martin in RP.

This isn't meant as a slight against any of you. I like you all and enjoy your company. I don't want any of you for enemies. This is meant to resolve the problems that seem to cropping up. I mean no offense. Please take the time to read through all of this--and read it objectively, as I wrote it.

he problem here is that we have TWO separate playerbases.

'Hardcores" such as Tristan, dman, Starlenia, (to name but a few. I'm not trying to point fingers, I'm just giving a few examples.)

"Centrals" such as Flicktail, Benar, and Scioto. And the gaggle of newbies and ex-newbies around them.

Then there's people like DoraRose, cotten 300, and myself, who are caught between the two.

The Hardcores have good, if somewhat opinionated, ideas, but they are rarely in positions of power.

The Centrals lack as many truly fresh ideas, but they're good at holding things together. However, the Hardcores and other interest groups have interesting, innovative plans, yet they cannot seem to get them put into place. If anyone wants to make things closer to what the Redwall realm of the books was, they get accused of stomping the ideas of others. We've kind of fell away from the original ideals. The Redwall of the books and Redwall MUCK seem to be very different worlds. Redwall Abbey has become a kind of quasi-nation rather than a community. Salamandastron has stagnated, though there are plans to remedy that. A village of 'good' vermin is directly north of Redwall. Make no mistake--'Good' vermin are fine. They're fun to RP with just as any characters may be. But we have so MANY of the blasted things. We need balance back.

The trouble is, the characters have become TOO advanced. They have more scientific knowledge, more modern viewpoints, and more lucid ideas than they did in the books. It's really getting strange. I'm not saying Ferravale should be abolished, or we should 'dumb down' everyone in Redwall Abbey, but we need a somewhat more traditional setup. Half the characters on here are orphans or 'reformed' vermin. Characters like that, at least/especially the latter, should be, in ratio to 'normal' characters, 1 in 10-ish. Instead, it's more like 10:1. I think what we need is more of the 'cannon fodder', more of the entities that are so often relegated to being NPCs, i.e. normal infirmary beasts, kitchen hands/paws, novices, and the other 'backgrounds'. They're supposed to be everywhere and yet they're always forgotten. I feel that if more people created alts dedicated to being, essentially, the 'average joes', the balance would be restored and things would seem more proper. What's up with that?

It's getting predictable, and...repetitive. How many more times are the same characters going to be 'injured' in battle, then miraculously be restored for some unknown reason within about 7 days? It doesn't WORK like that. Even if it leaves scars. With all the 'scars' that long-time characters would've gained by now, they'd look like a scratching post...

Okay, so I sort of went on a tangent there, but back to the main line of thinking.

Basically, a single small core of RPers hold all the cards. I feel as if things need to be shaken up. To keep it fresh. And fair. I think a few new faces should get a chance at running things--Right now, it's somewhat anarchic--might--or in this case age--makes right. I think perhaps there should be some shuffling of roles. The power should be a bit more distributed. Basically, Benar, Flicky, and Scioto seem to control just about everything. I'm not slighting them; in fact I quite enjoy their company, and respect their experience and authority--But I feel like it's gone stale, all of it. It's all depressing or repetitive.

Perhaps a 'changing of the guard' is necessary. Gradual at least.

And Flicky--I noticed in your posts that you repeatedly said that WE THINK or HOW WE WANT. You may be right; we may be right...But you don't seem willing to acknowledge that you COULD be in the wrong. It is somewhat unprofessional to refrain from at least admitting that WHAT WE WANT could be WHAT WE NEED. In your posts, there's a sense that YOU'RE in the right, and WE'RE just complaining and saying you're not good enough. At least be mature about this--Please.

That, in some measure, goes for most of the 'Centrals'. Again, I'm not dissing you, and please don't take it that way. But your experience here, while respectable and significant, doesn't mean that you, WITHOUT FAIL, are correct. I think if a few of the 'hardcores' were given a bit of a trial, they'd put in place some very interesting procedures that we could all find to be innovative and significant.

And Hardcores--Your trouble is, you don't ASK. Ok? You people criticize and strain against the yoke of sorts that is the control of the MU* by the Centrals--and you have good ideas, don't get me wrong--But you never speak directly to the Centrals about them. You never consult with the people you have so many words for. Unless you TELL the Centrals, personally, how you feel, which up until their arrival on this page you DIDN'T, as far as I know, then nothing will happen. You have to communicate--As your FIRST choice rather than your final one. Guys--Some of you have been on here long as well, and I hope you don't take the above statements about the experience of the Centrals to mean that Hardcores DON'T have experience--I was rather talking about their experience here, when used to justify what appears to be almost utter domination over the public areas.

Centrals--You say that if we don't like it, then it's our right to leave and make a private place of our own--But why should WE have to do that? What if we WANT to use the world of Redwall in our own way, without a shadow over it and without so many terms and conditions and restrictions? What makes you sure that you're in the right?

I feel as if these statements, if understood and read by many players, could solve many problems now and down the road.

Not my two cents, but my life's savings.

Also, apologies with the formatting and inconsistent paragraph settings that may make this hard to follow--my PC's being a piece of junk right now.

Geez, this ended up a lot longer than I thought it would.

Yeesh, sorry for making you scroll through all this crap.

But it had to be said.
