The Challenge Part 3

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

EDITED The on going battle for the chest takes a turn for the worse.

( Rorgan looks back only for a moment at the shout, enough to see the approaching squirrel. However, he turns back to the charging marten, and instead of going to block anything, he braces himself and steps forward under an overhead axe swing, smashing his shoulder straight into the marten's gut roughly to try and get some space between himself and the squirrel even while dealing with the charging marten for the moment, even though his friend looks to be ready to attack and make things way more complicated for him. )

The marten stumbles backward to the edge of the cart. He stands there flailing his arms as he tries to right himself. The second marten up on his feet slashes at the otter with his saber while the squirrel slashes at him with twin daggers. Dylan and the fox are busy repelling even more invader crawling up the sides of the carriage. This ride is getting more crowded by the second. Added to this the vehical hits a patch of uneven terrain, rocking the carraige and threatening to toss all those on top off of it.

Rorgan is thrown quickly off balance by the rocking of the carriage, but this seems to work to his advatage as he stumbles backwards, the attacks barely missing him. Gripping his daggers tightly, he quickly regains his balance by crouching close to the ground, growling at the marten and the squirrel dangerously. Inwardly, however, his heart is pounding in fear of the possibility that he may not come out of this one alive, which of course only makes him that much more menacing.

The carraige jumps again this time from the wagon colliding with it. Dylan kicks a beaver off into space and looks down in time to see two rats carrying the heavy chest out of the open carriage door, trying to haul their loot onto the wagon. "Rorgan! The gold is..." he looks back at the beasts moving in for the kill on Rorgan and hisses. He aims a quick slice to the marten with the saber. The bandit for his part catches the sword out of the corner of his eye and locks blades with the lizard. The remaining marten and squirrel seem to hesitate before attacking then leap at the otter from both sides, the marten swining for Rorgans head, the squirrel aiming for his stomach with his daggers.

Rorgan's first move is to raise his left dagger, stopping the sword just above his head. His right dagger catches the first dagger of the sqiurrel, and forces it into the other, redirecting both to barely pass his stomach. As well as he had been defending himself so far, the otter isn't too sure about how much longer he can keep it up, plus he now has the gold to worry about, though he hadn't been able to see what was happening to the chest, he can very safely assume somebeast is trying to take it.

With his opponent starting to push him backwards Dylan feels his feet connect with the edge of the carraige. He looks over his shoulder to see the rats are struggling with the box still but are almost successful in their attempt to carry it to the wagon. With his blade still locked with the martens the lizard twists the hilt of his long sword pulling out a small hide away dagger. The marten makes a pained gasp as the blade finds its mark in his belly. Dylan maneuvers himself around the marten and pushes him over the side. He turns his attention back in time to see the chain mail clad vulpine guard attack the second marten with his own rapier. Perhaps that will help the otter out of his bind as the squirrel again strikes at Rorgan with his knives.

Rorgan is finally relieved of part of his burden as the second marten is forced to go into combat with the vulpine guard. This time, the otter easily blocks the attack, having two daggers to work with now instead of one. Having stopped the daggers, Rorgan snarls and executes a kick straight at the squirrel's stomach, trying to get rid of him as fast as he possibly can.

Making a noisy chitter the squirrel is launched towards the edge of the carriage. He has to let go of his precious knives to hang on for dear life. Seeing his friend can take care of himself Dylan takes to the edge himself and leaps over the side landing on the chest and in between the two rats. He slashes one of the shocked bandits across the chest and he falls backward, letting go of the chest. As the wagon parts away from the carriage the chest falls between, along with Dylan. The remaining rat remains in the carriage trying desperately to keep his grip on the chest as it hangs suspended in the air over the side of the carriage...with Dylan clutching at the far end of the chest for life, "I imidietly regret my actions!"

The rat desperately holds onto the chest, trying to get his foot claws into the wood to keep it from pulling himself out with it. Dylan on the other hand is on the other end of the chest being dragged across the ground. There are fewer beasts on the wagon now. A leather clad fox, a burly brown otter with a blue bandana and scars crisscrossing his face and chest, Another burly woodlander rabbit missing an ear, and of course the rat driver

Rorgan gives a vicious kick the fallen squirrel's face, possibly breaking something and breaking the squirrel's grip on the side of the carriage. Rushing to the other side of the carriage, he peers over the edge and lets out a sigh as he catches sight of Dylan. Great, just another problem in the long list of problems that came up when everything went wrong with this. "Hang on Dylan, I'm comin'!" He shouts. steeling himself, he positions himself on the edge, facing away from the wagon next to the carriage so that his heels are barely hanging off. Rorgan shakes his head. The things he'll do to finish a job are just insane sometimes. With this thought, he takes a small jumps backwards, his paws catching hold of the side of the carriage and causing him to swing straight in through the open carriage door, his feet smashing into the rat's gut even as he twists to grip the chest with both paws to stop it from falling from the lack of the rat's presence.

The rat lands with a pained gasp against the far door. The two wounded ermines are still here and the stoat guardis leaning up against a chair clutching tightly to an open wound to his side. The portly weasel still remains tied up and laying down on the seat. Through the commotion no one has seen fit to release him. Outside The beasts are trying to figure out a way to grab the suspended chest which Dylan still hangs desperately onto. His swords long forgoten and lost behind him the lizard shouts in panic as his tail and feet are dragged across the ground below him, "RORGAN!"

Rorgan growls, digging the small claws of his footpaws into the floor and the smaller claws of his paws into the wood of the chest. His muscles strain as he slowly begins to back up, taking the chest and Dylan with him ever so slowly, the creatures behind him completely forgotten by the otter for the moment in his time of extreme exertion. Who knew it would be such a chore trying to muscle a chest filled with gold and a lizard into a moving carriage?

Dylan for one regrets not going on that diet he was planning to do. He breaths a sigh of relief when his tail is no longer being dragged by the road. But he is far from out of the woods yet. The beasts behind grab his feet and tail. The fox, otter, and hare bandits begin to pull dylan towards the wagon!

The scared otter gains yet another scar as he falls backward clutching at the knife that has appeared in his chest. "Blast it! Quit fooling around and get over there!" The rat shouts. Behind Rorgan the second rat comes too. He growls before throwing himself at the otter. On the wagon Dylan begins kicking at the beasts trying to pull him over. There is a scream from up ahead of the wagon. The remaining fox guard has defeated his opponant and is started to shoot at the beasts pulling the wagon with his bow.

Rorgan grunts as the rat slams into him, adding another force that is trying to send him straight out the door onto the road. In an effort to get the rat off, he bows his head forward before throwing it back to try and catch the rat in the face, hoping the fox guard on top would be quick with his shooting so this job could go just a bit easier for him at least.

With a snarl the rat driving the wagon orders his beasts to bank to the left. The wagon slams into the carraige so that there is only a small gap between them. The beasts holding onto dylan let him fall onto the wagon where he promptly kicks the hare below the belt and leaps to his feet clawing the fox's snout. Speaking of fox's the guard up top stumbles over the side onto the wagon as well. THe rat behind rorgan is completely knocked out with a broken snout. The rat driver for his part snarls again and draws a serrated cutlass with his good paw.

And the precious chest is still being held by the otter half on the carraige, half on the wagon with a small opening leading to the ground below it.

The sudden impact knocks Rorgan to a sitting position, but his grip remains rather strong on the chest. His free paw comes to grip the chest handle as well, and with another strong effort, he yanks the chest from its suspended position, resting on the wagon and the carriage, and straight into the carriage. From his effort, the otter had slid backwards in his sitting position to make room for the chest, but despite this small victory, he stands and moves past the chest, using a strong push with his footpaw to push the chest a little further into the carriage before gripping the side of the top of the carriage and pulling himself up before promptly running along the top of the carriage until he is in line with the wagon driver and jumping straight over to the wagon, his twin daggers drawn.
