The Abbot has A Morning Chat With Birds

From Redwall MUCK Wiki
RW Abbey: North Walltop
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Trees line this portion of the rampart although none of them even begin to level out at the level that this rampart stretches above the forest floor. On tree, however, stands out among the rest, a giant, ancient elmtree. Many beasts -- even burly otters -- would have to stretch their paws around in order to encircle its great trunk completely. A gnarled look is about the tree -- as many years living through droughts and storms -- as well as battles -- could do to anything. The elm extends at least several mice-heights higher than the wall, towering over the rest.
The snow has completely melted from the ramparts -- after all, they recieve near-direct sunlight most of the day. A few puddles can be found here and there in the little depressions that have assuredly been made from eons of beasts making their way across the waltops. Down below, blooms and bright, verdant new growth on the trees echoes the lovely green that also coats the forest floor -- and although it's a little soggy, it's definitely easier on footpaws than snow.

Thunderwing is circling and lands on the abbey wall tops and looks around as he perns a feather in his wing. A couple guards keep an eye on the large bird as he tilts his head "Thunderwing bring news from friends, needum tell message yes"

Benar has seen the eagle and ventured up to the wall top carefully "Greetings sir eagle, I overheard something of a message from friends, which friends would this be?" He will wait on a reply.

Thunderwing looks at the abbot and then speaks, "Hare Flare say bring message..message cause important to sayum. Badger and micees geta to mountain alla safe like. Flare say friend Zee should know niece is ok and safe. Thunderwing finda Zee along river, he say tellum abbeybeasts of news"

Benar smiles "It is good news to know our ambassador has made it to Salamandastron, as well as Leon and Dorarose."

Thunderwing bops his head, "Thunderwing go backs soon yes, travel with friend Zee up long river and to big waters, mucha fishes there for Thunderwing"

Benar nods, "SO, Zee is going to visit with Zinnia it sounds like, tell him I wish him safe travels for there and when he choices to return for on the way back. Is there any other news Thunderwing?"

Thunderwing shakes his head "No other news be no, Thunderwing bring what told to bring, of friends getting where need to be and be safe like."

Benar nods "Good news is always welcome Thunderwing. I will let Oz as well as Angela know they got there safe, I am sure they will be glad of the news"

Thunderwing nods, "Thunderwing go back Zee now." He moves away slightly as to not knock anyone down and tilts his head, then hops off the wall and glides to the road, flaps a few times and is soon airborne.

Benar backs up a little as the eagle takes off and watches him head off.

Thunderwing circles once and looks down , "Thunderwing fly now....Thunderwing make sure friend Zee get to where going ya" He then heads towards the direction of the river.

Twiddle has spotted an eagle from the rooftops. Being a small and territorial bird she was, of course, was enraged. She flies after the bird of prey a short distance, shrieking angrily and telling the big bird to go, before circling back around to perch on the wall top, looking smug.

Benar looks at the robin, "No worries, the eagle is a friend to the abbey and was delivering a message to us from friends"

Twiddle seems taken aback by the squirrel, as though for the moment the land-beast was invisible to the bird in the face of 'the enemy'. At the squirrel's words, however, she puffs herself up. "Norra frienda Twiddle, ahem hem no! Chase-a chase 'em all away! Peck peck peck alla eagles if no go go go!"

Benar says, "Well not all eagles are an enemy and those who are, it may be rather dangerous to try and handle such a large creature on one's own. Are you new to the abbey?"

"Biggabirds no' roost neara Twiddle, no no! Ahem hem! Chasem! Peckem! Twiddle much strong fierce bird! Bigga bird notta stay!" Twiddle insists hopping from side to side impatiently. She tilts her head suspiciously at the squirrel. "Twiddle roost here much weeks! Many sun-go-by! Twiddle chase kestrelbird out out out! Twiddle roosts upon the redcliffhouse! Twiddle eat from redcliffhouse! Groundbeast feed Twiddle! You feed Twiddle, ahem, yes?"

Benar listens to all she has to say, "Well, just do not get the sparra warriors upset, that would be unwise and any good beasts is welcome to stay. Will your nest be warm for when the winter season comes?"

"Sparra much much mighty warrior but Twiddle mightier, ahem yes! We have no-fight-truce-no-peck peck! Twiddle stay her roosts, Sparra stay they roost! We pecka peck peck the bigga birds alla way!" The little bird floofs herself up very proudly when she's asked about her nest. "Ahem hem! Muchwarm! Twiddle find much nestsofts around redcliffhouse! Grow on strange vine! Mucha softwarm, ahem yes!" She may have stolen someone's drying laundry.

Benar raises an eyebrow but decides to not worry on what she means right now, "I see....well the abbey has a good deal of bread, and some sunflower seeds we can share with our bird friends. We also have nuts and some berries."

"Your flickytailfox fox much feed! Worms and seeds and bread, yes, ahem yes! You Treefluff are have much worm and seed and bread for Twiddle?" She seems to expect the squirrel to suddenly produce food for her.

Benar says, "Well I am not sure much worms will be found once winter comes, maybe a way can be found to save some for you to have for winter sometimes. Other wise there is bread, sunflower seeds, you can also try fruits or other items maybe"

Twiddle hops forward expectantly. "Much want! Twiddle have fruit and otheritems and bread and seeds, ahem yes! Flufftail give Twiddle now? Ahem, yes? Flufftail treebeast feed Twiddle now?!"

Benar chuckles, "We could go into the cavern Hole and see what is left from breakfast, let us go" He then leads the way into the main building and into the Cavern Hole.

RW Abbey: Cavern Hole
--------------------------------------------------------------------
This room is slightly smaller than Great Hall, but still of a size large enough to accommodate a great number of gathered beasts. A large fireplace is set into one of the walls, and there are a series of small tables and chairs near one end for beasts who are eating late, or simply prefer the smaller tables for their meals. Cushions and blankets have been set in one corner. A short flight of steps leads up to Great Hall, and along the walls of the stairs, going both ways, the word 'Redwall' has been carved into the stone.

Krystal is here cleaning off a couple of the tables and making sure late comers to breakfast get something to eat.

Twiddle shrieks unhappily as the squirrel moves off but, with the promise of food inside, the bird hops and flutters along behind Benar, continuously pestering him. "Give give give! Give Twiddle food now, ahem yes! Food now? Feed Twiddle! Give give give!" She doesn't seem to know, nor care, what Cavern Hole might be. Even as they get there.

Benar turns to the robin as he enters the room "Do be calm friend, demanding is not the way to get anything, one must be polite and ask nicely" He smiles at Krystal "Good day Bee Keeper, how are you? Would there be any breakfast to be had still?"

Krystal smiles, she is then a little startled from the bird but soon relaxes "There is some rolls with honey and some oatmeal Abbot Benar, and some apple slices and green sap milk. I could get some."

"Treefluff beast make no sense! Want food, sing of food, get food! Ahem hem yes! Treeflufftail has promised food for Twiddle! Twiddle want! Feed Twiddle! This right!" The little bird fluffs up and looks furious at any further delay to her being given food. Her eyes alight on the other squirrel. "Beekeeper?! You are to feed Twiddle bees?! Twiddle want bread and worms and seeds! Flufftailkeeperofbees feed Twiddle?!" She's getting louder...

Benar frowns, “Do ask nicely, let me show you an example friend." He stays calm as he walks over to Krystal," Yes some breakfast would be nice please, may we have some ?"

Krystal gasps and shakes her head "Wair not, bees are friends...." She looks at the abbot and then the robin and tends to calm again, he smiles a little and goes into the kitchen to return with rolls, apple slices and some juice and smiles as she catches on "Yes you may" She smiles as she places the food and drink on a table, "And your welcome."

Twiddle hops forward behind Benar and tilts her head with a furious expression and very very fluffy feathers. "Strange groundbeast custom! No no no! Twiddle norra do groundbeast thing! Twiddle is fed, yes yes! Norra eating dirty stingsting bees! Nasty buzzbugs! Give Twiddle bread!" The sight of the rolls Krystal returns with is too much for the little bird's patience and she charges forwards and hops up onto the table and starts trying to peck apart as many rolls as possible, spilling food and drink across the surface of the table.

Benar smiles "Thank you Krystal" He looks to the robin and offers a smile" See politeness is very good to have, as well as calmness and patience ." He sighs at the robin, "When has been the last time you have had a meal Twiddle?"

Krystal nods and steps back as she watches the bird and sits down in a chair not too far off.

"Twiddle had wormfood and bread! Before roost last night! Ahem yes! Many hours!" The bird pauses for just a moment in her absolute destruction of the rolls to deliver her answer before she goes back to making the worst mess she possibly could in the course of pecking and devouring the bread.

Benar watches the bird "Well, your need to learn to wait sometimes for meals and not eat nearly as fast as you’re doing now. One should enjoy food and eating too fast can lead to other problems as well such as not feeling well."

Krystal blinks, she has gone silent for a short while before speaking, "So...ummm, how is every beast today?"

The bird gulps down some roll crumbs and hops across the table, knocking over another drink and spilling it across the floor. She puffs up and looks, with a serious expression, at the two squirrels. "Slowbird food stolen! Twiddle norra slowbird! No no no!" Her gaze falls on Krystal suspiciously. "Wot mean?!"

"Well no beasts will steal your food in here, not to worry. You will see....now" He looks at the mess and frowns, and then nods to the others "I need to speak to Angela and Oz and let them know of news I have gotten from our friend Thunderwing, excuse me" The abbot then heads off.
