Talk in the Ferravale Tavern

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

This is a log in the tavern with Scioto, Lee, and Derean

Scioto storms into the tavern, a bandage on his lower arm close to his wrist, "Ale" he says and looks a bit..peeved.

Lee walks into the tavern not long after. Again, he's searching for a specific otter.

Scioto drinks down his ale as he looks over at Lee and then drums his fingers on the countertop, his bandaged arm shows slightly.

The specific otter being searched for is currently in the fighting pit, kicking the snot out of a weasel for the moment. His fist shoots out, catching the weasel on the nose and sending him crashing to the ground.

Lee wanders over toward the fighting pit. He can hear a fight going on.

Scioto watches both otters and shakes his head, he is half interested in fights, "I am starting to hate today already" he mutters.

Derean watches the fallen weasel for a few more moments before huffing and leaning against the railing. He most certainly does not look happy and nobeast seems to think it wise to approach him and congratulate him.

But approach is exactly what Lee does. "Derean."

Derean's head turns, and he scowls as he sights Lee. He pushes away from the railing, turning to face the other otter. "Can you not just leave me be?" He demands.

Scioto gets another ale as he watches, the last thing he needs is more trouble today.

Lee shakes his head. "Per'aps I could, but yer worryin' me, mate. Yer personality is volatile lately. I thought I knew ye at least a little bit... but I don't know ye at all anymore. Flick 'as been askin' 'bout ye... I 'ad ta lie again an' pretend I don't know where ye are." He sighs. "I dunno, maybe this *is* yer normal self, and the friendly personality ye 'ad back at the Abbey was all a sham...I dunno anymore."

Derean crosses his arms, looking quite irritated, though maybe the real reason needs a little digging to figure out. "You never knew me well enough Lee. None of the beasts back at the abbey did, even Flicktail." He turns away with a small sigh. "Bein' in Nightfur's cells...it changed me. I can't tell you how, but it did, an' I can tell."

Lee narrows his eyes. "I know I never knew ye well enough, but I do know enough ta agree that yes... You're changed...an' it don't seem a good change."

Scioto lets them talk as he chats with a guard and growls one and nods another "keep me updated" And the two leave as the cat sips his ale.

Derean turns back, studying Lee. "Do you think I chose wot happened t' me? I never wanted t' be considered a slave again, an' it did somethin' t' me, an' I don't know wot."

Lee frowns. "An' I suppose ye think nobeast at the Abbey cared, eh? Do ye know I blamed meself for yer capture? I didn't do enough..."

Scioto walks over rubbing his arm where its bandaged, he stands close by for now

Derean humphs. "You had no way t' prevent it, plus I know nobeast cared aside from Flicktail an' possibly you."

Lee says, "Derean...yer forgettin' Friar Lacota. He thought o' ye as a friend...because 'e been in yer position before."

Derean seems to think of this for a few moments. "He never came off as thinkin' of me as anythin' other than another beast who used t' be a slave."

Scioto speaks, "Slavery is a very evil thing, I am glad that Nightfur was dealt with and is now gone"

Lee says, "Per'aps that's because ye never talked with Lacota enough ta notice. 'E was greatly worried."

Derean looks at the ground for a few moments. "Well he doesn't have t' worry now. I'm in a place where nobeast tries t' understand me, an' that's fine with me."

Lee frowns. "An' that's the problem, Derean. I used ta think ye were a goodbeast...but now, I don't think so anymore. I am sorry ta say this, but since yer goin' down a dark path, an' takin' Braxton with ye, yer..." the next part chokes him up a little, "no longer welcome at the Abbey."

Scioto ears perk some at the name he hears, he is curious, then maybe its just an otter"Braxton some other..otter?"

Derean's eyes seem to darken, and he looks up to Lee. "Fine." He says coldly. "That's absolutely fine with me." He doesn't even bother to answer Scioto at this point, but keeps his eyes affixed on Lee.

Lee doesn't show his emotions. "I can only 'ope ye realize the error of yer ways some day. If not...I won't 'esitate ta stop ye like any other bad beast." He sighs. "I thought o' ye as a friend...It saddens me that ye apparently only pretended ta feel the same." He then turns to Scioto, "No sir, Braxton be a badger with anger issues, 'ave ye seen 'im around?"

Derean turns away from the otter, walking to the other side of the fighting pit. "Aye, you do that /mate/." He spits the word out bitterly, vaulting over the railing on the opposite side of Lee and sitting in a nearby table.

Scioto listens and then his ears flatten "A badger..a small one, oh I seen him alright, him and the weasel, they are both in my cells"He points to his arm, the bandage "The badger did This!!..He tried to release a thief!"

Lee frowns. "I am sorry, Scioto...I have no way I can 'elp ye. I know 'e be a dibbun, but Willow'eart warned me that Nightfur 'ad twisted 'is mind...I tried to not believe it...but now I be not sure."

Derean simply remains in the shadows over in the side, ordering an ale for himself, after which he stares straight at the tabletop silently.

Scioto shakes his head "I need to do..I am unsure what, yes he is a dibbun but, dangerous as well it seems, he also seems alone"

Lee sighs. "I know...but I don't think the lad can be 'elped. 'Is sister be at Redwall..." He suddenly snaps his fingers. "Wait! I know! Friar Lacota! 'E be the only beast from the Abbey that Braxton trusted."

Derean nods his silent thanks to the waiter as his drink is brought to him, and he takes a sizeable swig.

Scioto shakes his head "I dont need more..."He holds back, yes too many woodlanders do get to him, he counts to ten and has calmed, "What of it?..And for your info the badger wont die, but he will not be releast from the cell either, as for the weasel if she is his friend, she is in alot of trouble as well."

Lee says, "Lissen, Scioto...Lacota be the only beast remainin' in the Abbey that can possibly get through ta Braxton an' make the lad lissen ta reason...I'm bringin' 'im 'ere."

Scioto nods "Fine, I will let the guards know, so they can keep an eye on him for his protection mainly, not all here are friendly to woodlanders or abbey beasts"

Scioto nods "Alright, cant say I am very pleased with the badger, what he did would get an adult beast a death sentence"

Lee nods. "I can only 'ope 'e will still lissen ta Lacota."

Derean finally stands, tossing a few coins onto the table and walking around the fighting pit, walking straight past Lee and Scioto towards the exit.

Scioto says, "guess we will find out"

Lee attempts to stop the otter. "Do ye know where Braxton is?" is all he asks.

Derean stops, turning back towards Lee. "No," Is all he answers with.

Scioto lets the two otters discuss the issues, he knows where the badger is and sits down to get more ale.

Lee sighs, but he continues, hoping the knowledge of the badger's whereabouts will get through to Derean. "Braxton be in jail, mate. 'E apparently was with a weasel who were caught in criminal acts...Braxton threw 'is dagger at Scioto's arm."

This news seems to wound him inwardly, and his eyes soften. With great difficulty, he takes a breath and says, "He'll have t' learn sooner or later that he can't do anythin' he wants. I tried t' tell him that, but evidently he needed t' learn fer himself."

Lee's firm demeanor melts. "Derean...I am sorry for me harsh words earlier." he sighs. "I know ye care deeply for young Braxton. But ye must know by now that 'e needs 'elp... Derean, if ye 'ad asked me before'and, I woulda given ye ev'ry support for takin' Braxton outta the Abbey. I never meant ta come across as harsh..."

Scioto heads out he has some things to do around the village

Derean looks almost remorseful, and his eyes watery. "Well...maybe it's fer the best. I never did feel as though I fit in at the abbey anyways."

Lee nods. "Lissen, I unnerstand. I just don't wanna see ye go down that dark path to bein' a badbeast. Ye 'ave a good 'eart, even if ye don't yet realize it. Wot I said earlier about ye bein' not welcome at the Abbey was said in anger, an' I am sorry." He sighs, "About Braxton... As ye know, there were one other beast at Redwall that the lad lissened to. Friar Lacota...I am bringin' 'im 'ere tamorrow ta speak ta Braxton."

Derean sighs, shaking his head. "You don't understand Lee, but I appreciate the thought. I s'pose if you think Lacota can help, then go ahead an' try. If you need t' find me..well...you'll know where I'll be." With that, he turns and walks straight out of the tavern, head hanging.
