RW Abbey: Library

The library is disturbingly empty of books and scrolls, and only a small fraction of the knowledge it should be able to hold is actually present and available for perusing. The beautifully crafted windows are well cleaned. Giving the library plenty of light during the daylight hours. This, combined with the room's high vaulted ceiling, causes a rather foreboding play of shadows in the corners and between shelves. The flagstones of the floor are cool and smooth, and echoes of clicks and thumps can be heard quite clearly when beasts walk among the mostly bare shelves. Brass lamps containing short, fat little white candles provide enough light for reading.

Light is beginning to filter in through the windows.

Charter of Redwall

Abbey Charter

DoraRose is sitting at the table, a book in her paws and 5 more at her side. She seems deeply engrossed in whatever the book is about. The sunlight coming in through the window is shining on her, making her brown fur seem almost golden and her earrings shine slightly.

Desire slips into the library and right away trips over a pile of books. If she could speak she would mutter something about always tripping, but sadly that is not the case. She picks herself up with a look of annoyance on her face.

DoraRose jumps at the noise of Desire falling and whips around, relaxing slightly at the sight of the cat. Smiling, she greets her, saying, "Good day." she doesn't know that the cat can't speak.

Desire looks over at DoraRose, whom she did not see. The annoyance on her face quickly melts into curiosity and she takes a step toward the mouse, leaving the books on the ground. She gives a quick bow as her form of greeting and takes a second step toward DoraRose.

DoraRose furrows her eyebrows a little, but keeps a smile on her face. "My name is DoraRose Strongheart. Might I ask what yours is?" she has an idea now that Desire can't speak, but she's not quite sure.

Desire looks a bit down hearted for a moment then quickly pulls out a sheet of paper, her ink and a quill pen. She sets this all down on the table and quickly writes out a message. It says: 'I am sorry, I cannot speak. My name is Desire Lockheart and I am very pleased to meet you miss DoraRose.' She than hands the note to DoraRose with a smile.

DoraRose takes the note and reads it. Looking up at the cat's face, she smiles and says, "I'm sorry about your voice. It's nice to meet you aswell, Miss Desire." she hands the sheet of paper back and adds, "That is a lovely violin."

Desire shrugs, writeing on the paper 'I got used to it.' She than beems proudly about the Violin and adds to the note 'thank you! It was my....fathers I think. The guards made me leave the bow to it in the Gate house or I would play somthing for you.'

DoraRose frowns. "Why did they make you leave the bow behind?" she asks, putting a small cord in the book to mark her place.

Desire writes "It has a knife on the end. A very handy weapon when push comes to shove, but it does throw the violin off tune somtimes. I got here last night. How long have you been here?' She smiles again as she lets DoraRose have the note.

DoraRose reads the note and 'ahs' at the part about the bow. Handing the paper back, she answers, "Since this past spring. Do you mind my asking why you came here?" she smiles, but it doesn't compleatly cover up the sad, angry, hard look that whatever she is remebering brought to her face.

Desire notices the look and seems almost afraid DoraRose is mad at her, but she puts that thought out of her mind and starts to write 'I do not mind at all. Me and my brother where from a mountain range that is across the flatlands and grasslands. Anyway, we wanted to leave our home because it held too much of our past. So a few weeks ago we left, planning to come to Redwall. When we got about halfway across the flatlands I left the protecting of my brother and basically ran away while he was sleeping. Now you must know that I did leave a note for him and he knows where I am at, but he was just getting too protective of me and the reason for that is in another story for I am afraid this paper will not hold all of my ramblings. Back to the point. I continued to travel away from him until I got to the Abbey and I know he will be here within forty two hours. That is how I came to be here. What brought you here?'

DoraRose reads the note, then sighs. "I am following the fox, Stormfeather. He murdered my little sister." she hands the paper back to Desire and adds, "Have you seen a stormy furred male fox on your travels in Mossflower country? I know he is in this area, but I don't know where." her look becomes grim. "He is evil and dangerous, and should not be taken lightly."

Desire thinks a moment than writes 'I did hear somone here say somthing about it, but I have not seen the fox. I am very sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to lose somone you love. Maybe me and my brother can help?'

DoraRose smiles gently at the cat and nods. "Yes, I'm sure you could. Just by keeping a wary eye out for anyhting suspicious." she absently strokes the cover of 1 of the books and adds, "Thank you, for both your offer of help and your kind words."

Desire smiles and writes 'It is the most I can do.' She changes the subject 'I can also play spoons!'

DoraRose raises an eyebrow. "Spoons? I don't think I've ever heard of that."

Lorimis walks into the library, he stops when he notices Dorarose and Desire and nods, "Hello and good day you two."

Desire grins and pulls out her two spoons from her bag. She places them between her fingers and clenches her fist than starts to play them on her knee. It is an up-beat tune and as Lorimis comes in she quickly stops and holds the spoons behind her back. It IS a library.

DoraRose watches as Desire pulls out her spoons, then chuckles a little when the cat begins to play. Hearing the door open, she turns and smiles at Lorimis. "Hello."

Lorimis nods, "How are you two doing today?"

Desire smiles and shrugs at Lorimis. She quickly puts her spoons away than writes on her paper 'I am doing fine. You?' She offers the paper to Lorimis.

DoraRose nods amiably at Lorimis. "I am well, thank you. Has Abbot Benar told you about the meeting a few days ago?" she has no clue that Benar isn't the Abbot anymore.

Lorimis answers, "Flicktail has told me of it and Benar is not abbot, though if I am ill or need the help, or unable to attend he can act as an acting abbot, he is now Elder Brother."He offers a small smile, he looks at the paper and sighs "I am doing about as well as I can."

Desire frowns, but nods taking that as an answer. She sits down on a chair and starts to waste ink by doodeling on the paper.

DoraRose frowns, a very confused look on her face. "I thought Benar was the Abbot..." she rubs her forehead, totally not understanding.

Lorimis smiles "He was while I was away at Ferravale, I believe we meet, least once and your..Dorarose right?"

DoraRose sighs and nods. Putting on a smile, she says, "Yessir, you are correct. You gave me new green cloak. Am I correct in remembering that your name is Lorimis?"

Lorimis smiles "Yes I am Lorimis, how are you doing today Dorarose, are you alright?"

DoraRose nods, then shakes her head, then sighs again. "I'm not sure. I think so. I'm just so worried about the creatures in this area. What will Stormfeather -- the fox I'm following -- do?"

Lorimis lays a gentle paw on her shoulder, "Martin will help us all and you, this evil I feel will be stoped, I just hope soon and that Oz is brought back soon as well."

Desire has been listening and drawing this whole time. The picture that she is coming out with looks like a male cat with a kind smile on his face. In one paw he is holding a saber and in the other a rock. He seems like he is geting ready to fight. Desire sighs as she looks at the picture and quickly adds a name to the bottom of the picture 'Carve'.

DoraRose nods, looking rather sad. "I, too, hope that Oz will be saved soon." she rubs her eye, then sighs again. Turning to Desire, she sees the drawing. "That's a lovely picture. Do you mind my asking who that is?"

Lorimis nods, "If you both will excuse me, I have a novice class I am teaching and will be late if I do not go now"

Desire looks over at DoraRose and nods her thanks, than in reply she writes above the picture 'My brother. He looks nice, don't you think?' She waves to Lorimis as he leaves.

DoraRose waves good-bye to Lorimis, then turns back to Desire. "Yes, he does." she smiles and adds, "I have 3 brothers, and it got a little hectic sometimes."

Desire smiles and writes 'Will you tell me about them?'

DoraRose smiles as memories come to her mind. "Well, let's see. I have an older brother and 2 younger brothers. The youngest of them is Emyuil. Emyuil Streamstone. He is quite fond of the hand-and-a-half sword." her smile seems malencholy, almost.

Desire nods, writeing 'He sounds like a fighter. Do you know where he is right now?'

DoraRose's smile turns a little brighter, but it still seems sad. "Yes. He's with my parents and brothers, back home in Tuscani -- ah, the Eastern Plains." she adds this last bit almost as an afterthought.

Desire turns the paper onto its other side 'Sounds like a nice place. You lived there too?'

DoraRose nods. "Yes. It is a beautiful place. There is almost always a wind, and there are no trees blocking your view of the horizon." she has a faraway look in her eyes.

Desire smiles and tries to picture it in her mind. She closes her eyes as her mind wonders to her own home. Will she ever see it again?

DoraRose sighs and comes back to the here and now. Smiling, she reaches into her apron pocket and brings forth a notebook. Ripping out a page, she hands it to Desire and says, "Tell me about your home."

Desire smiles and nods, taking the paper she starts to write 'My home was beautiful. It was in a small clearing lined with pine trees. Every morning there was fresh dew on the grass and there was hardly ever a rainy day. At night you could see the sky so well that is was better than looking through glass. It was usually cool, not cold, but cool. In the winter time it was always major and then was about the only time it was cold. The snow would get as high as the roof and we had to tunnel our way out. Thankfully when we could not tunnel out very well we had a mole friend who helped us. My home was a wonderful place and it always seemed fresh.' She hands the paper to DoraRose with a smile.

The door clicks open and Benar steps inside, the squirrel shuts the door gently and moves toward the stacks carrying a large, ancient book under one arm.

DoraRose had just fineshed reading the note when Benar entered the library. She hands the paper back to Desire and murmers, "It sounds lovely." then turns to the squirrel, saying, "Good day, Benar. This is Desire." she gestures towards the cat.

Desire smiles and nods than she hears somthing from great hall that sounds like a dibbun. She walks out with curiosity in mind.

Benar steps out of the way and inclines his head, "Ah well erm... that was quick I guess.... a new guest?"

DoraRose nods. "I think so. She seems quite nice. She can't speak though." glancing at the large book in Benar's arms, she asks, "What's that book about?"

Benar, he sets the book down and slides it toward Dora, "History... I was doing some reading for you. This was in my rooms I thought some if it might interest you"

DoraRose moves the 6 books she was looking through out of the way and opens the super-big book. "Oh? Why, what's in it?"

Benar smiles at Dora "It is... what you are looking for I believe. If you can translate Martin's words. It is... prose written down by a previous Recorder very long ago."
