Sometimes Club 1

I wish to announce the formation of the Sometimes Club, a non-exclusive band of players who, while unable to roleplay frequently, remain interested in roleplaying regularly. The club will meet once a week on a day and time to be negotiated. It is my hope that by having a framework for busy players to remain engaged, we can enjoy at our own pace the sorts of ongoing plots that usually pass us by. All players are welcome to join the club at any time, but they should expect to conform to the timeline, once they do, by RPing as their ‘Sometimes’ characters only at the appointed times—i.e., no more often than once a week.

Some points I wish to make explicit:

First, the slow and steady spacing of the RPs largely precludes our involvement in MUCK events at large (TPs, etc.). This is not such a bad thing when cast in the light of the fact that the target audience for the Sometimes Club comprises players who are, in a sense, naturally excluded from MU events by their inability to engage as often as they’d like. If anything, this will add to the pool of active RPers and contribute to the vitality of the MUCK.

Second, calling it a “Club” suggests a cliquishness that belies its intended nature. I want to stress this again: group membership will be fluid. Your character “joins” simply by participating in the story arc and by matching our pace. He, she, or it can join a single RP, or a couple, or whatever. Basic courtesy still applies: you should ICly “part ways” if you won’t be returning for the next session, for example.

Finally, I reserve for myself no special or structured authority within the Club. If we want to modify some details of the implementation, that’s a collective decision. I will, however, initially post logs and schedule modifications, until someone else opts to shoulder that responsibility.

That’s just the skeleton of a plan. It leaves open practically all of the details.

Please respond to this if you’re interested. Include your suggestion for a weekday and a time (with a timezone) and, optionally, any ideas you have about the theme of the group, its composition, and its alignment. We needn’t be all goodies or baddies, and in fact, it will be terrific if enough players join in to sustain two (or more?!) parallel stories that unfold simultaneously (and interweave!). We will refine things as we go.

My suggestions:

Time: Wednesday, 7 PM Eastern

Location: Riverdale is currently living at his ancestral inn, Sagebrush, a day’s hike south from the Abbey. Sagebrush could provide a good backdrop for a variety of RPs, but things could get a bit sedentary after a while. (The inn does have plenty of hidden rooms and corridors, though, and hosts many visitors from afar. Plus, the Molty Bookworm, a pub, is next door.) My only other character, Stubb, is in Izmir, atop the great southern cliffs, another possible spot. There are lots of places around that are ripe for revival, though, so I’m game for anything that we decide.
