Setting Sail - Badger Bowling

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

Characters: Ella, Sebastian, William

Location: Great South Stream

William sits by the fire, poking at the logs with a stick. His other paw holds another stick on which is his breakfast. This is his second serving or maybe fourth as it looks like the others have already finished their breakfasts some time ago.

And the big thing, otherwise known as Sebastian, is sitting next to William, reading! He's reading a book and from the look of it, its old as time itself. Although not THAT old but really old. He keeps quiet, having thought Will was a little on edge around him, thinking it was best to not bother him too much.

William is wary of the badger based off what he's heard about them in old stories. And rats such as himself are uncommon seeing as most /are/ verminous. Will takes another bite of the hardtack that partly covers one stick, glancing over at Seb now and then. "What ya readin'?" he asks after a while as his curiosity gets the better of him.

Sebastian hms and looks up, or rather, down at the rat. "Oh. Just an old book I got at the abbey when I was there. On Mossflower history." he chuckles a little bit. "I've had it for ages but have never really read it." he nods. "Started a couple of days ago."

The rat looks up and up and up. The badger's huge. Huger than Aik! "How far along on you?" he asks. He's read quite a few books from the Abbey nearly all about Redwall, it's champions or related historic things.

Sebastian hums. "Only a few pages." he nods. "I'm a slow reader." he chuckles a little bit and smiles. "Never been one for reading." he thinks for a few moments. "More traveling and training and stuff."

William says, "Reading can be nice when you're not in a hurry or you're bored."

Sebastian hums a bit and chuckles, looking to the book once then to the rat. "Yeah. Pretty much." he nods, sliding his book away. "But that's pretty much the only time." he nods.

William nods. "And then there's those that like reading." The rat shrugs.

Sebastian nods. "Who read all the time." he chuckles a bit and then tilts his head, getting the feeling Will is still nervous with him around. "I hope I don't make you uncomfortable or anything." he says after a few moments.

"We'll get used t you before long. Hope you don't mind too much being around us with only half of us being otters." he tosses the stick his breakfast was on and the other stick into the fire as he's done with them.

Sebastian shrugs a little bit. "I don't actually." he chuckles a little bit. "As I said to Aikuen earlier, as long you give me no reason to hate you, I'm perfectly fine." he chuckles.

William stares into the fire glancing at the badger now and then. "Care t tell anything about yourself?" the rat asks as he doesn't know much about the badger except his name and that he's a traveler. Of course the badger likely doesn't know much about him or his family either except the obvious things such as the stoats being a family and the otters being another, maybe that the weasel is part of the stoat family. The basic things had can be picked up on from watching them interact and talk to each other. Will hasn't referred to Aikuen by any special name since they met the badger but Aik's been busy with the twins so much he may not have even noticed it.

Sebastian hums a little and shrugs. "What's to tell?" he asks. "Left home when I was young to look for my dad. Found out he was dead when I was at the abbey..." he shrugs. "Been traveling my whole life. Not too interesting." he chuckles a bit.

William mmms, "It was just a thought. We did only just meet you."

Sebastian chuckles. "Yeah." he hums. "If I could think of anything that would interest you, I'd talk away but..." he shrugs. "What about you?" he asks. "Anything interesting you'd not mind sharing?" He smiles.

William chews on his lower lip a bit, "Depends what ya'd want t know."

Sebastian shrugs a little bit. "Doesn't matter I guess." he says. "Whatever you want to share." he smiles a bit.

"Can't really think of anything. Except that I'm not what you'd call 'verminous' though I'd hope that much'd be obvious." the rat says leaning back and looking at the badger directly now instead of the fire.

And here comes ELLA! Be afraid. Be very afraid. After escaping the evil clutches of Garnet the crazy kitchen lady. She decides that she want to get up and close with the walking and talking mountain. Never seeing a badger before. She sneaks up from behind and grabs onto his back with a happy little, "Grrr!"

Sebastian hums a little bit and was just about to answer Will when he ergs loudly, looking around. "Something's got me!" he's got a pretty good idea what it is too. "Please don't hurt me!" he chuckles as he falls over sideways so he doesn't hurt the otter.

William ergs as well when the badger falls over and sends up a could of dust. The jumps back and coughs as the air clears. "I did warn you about them." he says between coughs.

Ella giggles. Going to fall with the badger with a little 'Ahhh' before going to climb up his back toward on his side that's now on top, "I wins!" he cheers before looking at the badgers eyes and giggling, "Hi!" she bounces.

Sebastian rolls onto his back, letting the otter onto his chest with a chuckle. "Hello there." he smiles. "You're...er..." he thinks for a few moments. "Venei, right?" he grins, thinking he got it right.

Ella grins crawling onto his chest. Before setting up camp, "HI!" she starts to bounce again, "No! I not VeeVee! Im Ellers! Im the cute one." she nods resolutely.

Sebastian oohs and chuckles a little. "Oh, I see..." he hums a little bit and grins. "The cute one, eh?" he thinks. "Just how cute are you, hm, Ella?" he asks, tilting his head with a grin before slowly sitting up, letting her slide down into his lap slowly with a chuckle, sitting up properly again.

Ella flips backwards when the badger sits up. She gives a light 'uff' before going back to sit again, "Ima THIS" she holds up her arms as wide as she can, "Ca-ute!" she giggles, "And you are reallyreallyreallyreallyreally biggy..." nodding.

Sebastian chuckles a bit and nods. "I'd say you are." he smiles, poking her in the belly lightly before laughing. "I'm not big! You're just tiny." he nods with a smile. "Sooo!" he says with a hum, not used to kids around.

Ella smiles at the poke. Going to grab the badgers paw with both of her own paws. She then frowns and looks up at her nose, "Im not Tinies! I am Just the right size... Thats what mummy says... You are the biggy" nodding again.

Sebastian chuckles and nods. "Yes, yes. I'm big." he smiles. "I'm taller then most badgers." he nods. "Which makes me bigger!" he laughs a bit more, bouncing the little otter on his knee for a few moments before going to gently set her on a seat next to him.

Ella Whees as she plops next to the badger. She then spots William, going to bounce again, "Brudder!" she yells out. Giggling more and more loudly. Someone is happy today.

William chuckles as Ella pronouces herself 'the cute one'. "Cute? I thought you were the troublesome one. I know you used to be the bitey one." he grins catching her when she pounces at him. He tries to flip on onto her back so he can tickle her. "Are you being a good Pikefish today?" he asks her.

Sebastian laughs and grins at the otter and the rat, shaking his head slowly as he folds his arms. "Little beasts are always trouble." he nods with a laugh. "Silly, and fun! But trouble all the same."

"Yes they are," Will agrees, "This one above all I think. She is a very silly little otter." He tries to pull her onto his lap but she's half his size and very wiggly and ottery. "Whatever are we going to do with you El?" he asks the otter. "You mention a father that's not around anymore," Will says addressing the badger again, "Don't suppose you have any other family do you?"

Sebastian hums a little and ohs, nodding. "Yeah. I have a few brothers at home." he nods. "They didn't want to go with me, although we write every so often." he nods. "Well. I write them. But I don't get anything back because I move around so much." he hums.

"I'd heard that male badgers weren't able to live together for long. How old are your brothers?" the rat asks having read stories of the Badger Lords when he used to spend more time at the Abbey.

The badger shrugs a little. "How old are they? Well, one is my twin." he nods. "So he's the same age as I am. While my other is only about..." he thinks, counting on his fingers. "Nine or ten seasons old now." he nods. "Miss them a lot though." he thinks. "I was thinking of going back home sometime but they're far, far to the south." he chuckles a little. "So I really haven't bothered with it yet.

William nods, "Well we're heading southwest unless we changed course again so maybe you'll run into them."

Sebastian hums a bit and smiles slightly. "That would be nice." he hums. "Haven't seen them in ages. Wonder how much has changed." he thinks for a few moments.

William frees Ella (as if she needed help freeing herself) and walks back over toward the cart to see what the others are up to. He hopes the otter will follow or at least not cause too much trouble for the badger.

Sebastian hums a bit and watches William head back to the cart. He chuckles a bit and then waves. He thinks the rat left for a while and so, having not much else to do, he pulls out his book and starts to read.

William glances back toward the fire every so often as Ella had decided to stay behind and play with the badger or try to play with him anyway. The rat smirks as he watches his sister runs around the much larger beast before launching herself at him.
