Riana, meet Oz (A Redwall log)

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

RW Abbey: Infirmary

Several beds are lined against the red sandstone walls of the Abbey's Infirmary. An examination table, separated from the rest of the room by hanging blankets, rests against the far wall. Tucked into a small alcove is a sizeable workbench with various containers for mixing and preparing medicinal compounds. Against another wall is a desk for use by the Infirmary Keeper. A curtained off alcove behind the desk hides a locked door to the Infirmary's supplies and linens.

Oz the badger. Angela the mouse and Riana the golden eagle.

Oz usually avoids the infirm, even when he is due a checkup, he always disliked the infirm. But the colder nights and morning is starting to make his knee hurt again and maybe ageing seasons is another. So he has decided to slowly walk, limp slightly, to the infirm and sits down on one of the larger cots.

Angela is over by the herb cabinet, mixing up something that smells like a swamp mixed with rotting leaves. A huge golden eagle is huddles in a corner, her right wing in a cast and tied to her side so she won't move it, and her legs are wrapped in bandages. Covering her beak with a wing, she hisses moodily and says, "Do you have to make that in here, little mouse?" The old Healer scowls at her ginormous charge. "Yes I do, now stop whining, ye big ormadorm. Oz, this is our eagle visitor, calls 'erself Riana Thunderbolt. Worst patient I've ever 'ad." "That's because you're a poisoner, little mouse." "'O asked you??"

Oz tilts his head "An eagle, how interesting...I came up here to see if you have anything to help my knee, its brothering me again...annoying cold weather at night."

Angela nods. "Oh, aye,i get a similar ache when the weather gets cold. I'm actually brewin' up a remedy right now that should 'elp. I'll get ye some when it's cool. When did these pains start?" Riana peers intently at the badger. "There are lots of badgers in the Northlands. I've never actually spoken to one before. What do they call you?" Hey, look, she's actually being friendly! Go figure.

Oz nods to Angela and tilts his head at the eagle but he doesn't look right at her, as well he is blind, "I am Oz...Papa Oz to the dibbuns, I rarely use my last name, but I have one"

Angela continues stirring her concoction, which is starting to be less pungent because it's cooling. Riana walks over to the badger, then settles down and stares at him closely. "Can you see me, little badger? Papa Oz, why do they call you Papa?" she is curious, and sounds kind of young as she asks these questions. She is still only about 8 or 9 seasons old.

Oz answers "I am the dibbun caretaker of the dibbuns...and no I can't see I am blind but I know my way around the abbey and know beasts by voice and footpaw steps and scent when needed"

Angela fills a container with the vile-smelling paste as Riana tilts her head to one side. "That is sad. I understand that you groundlings really don't hunt much, but nobeast should be without the gift of sight." The old Healer comes over and goes to give the badger the container. Smiling, she says, "'Ere. Just rub this on whatever joints and muscles 'urt, and it'll take some of the pain away. Thank you for talking to Riana," she murmurs in his ear. "You are the first beast that she's been civil to." The eagle glares at the mouse. "What are you saying? I don't like secrets." The mouse scowls at her. "I'm sayin' you're not civil."

And then Oz had to leave because RL is mean. Oh, well. It was still a fun RP :) Thanks for reading!
