Salamandastron: Sentry Room

  • -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

Once one has ascended the stairs, they would come upon this room, the sentry room. Along one wall, thee are small, slitted windows, which look no more than cracks in the mountain wall, from the outside, and it looks down upon the niche, outside the mountain, where all creatures entering the mountain must pass. The room, sparse and basically un-furnished, while comfortable in the summer, is often quite cold in the winter, save for a small fireplace in one corner. During the winter, you had better believe that is kept alive most of the season long, by the sentries on duty who wish to remain unfrozen. There are always two hares on duty in this room, one to always remain and the other to sound the alarm to the rest of the mountain, if need be. Two chairs are situated beneath the slitted windows in the wall.

Oh, sentry duty, how I love thee. Let me count the ways... Oh, wait. There /are/ no ways. Nothing obvious, anyway. All the same, Private Taye seems to be content enough to sit before one of the slitted windows, his chin resting on an elbow, as he peers out to the starry scene. He has a rather dazed expression on his face, as if he's lost in thought.

Quinten has been watching the shore in silence since he started sentry duty, eyes fixed on the beach and the sea beyond. chin rest in his paws and ears hanging over his head to hide his eyes.

It seems they've both gone the introspective route, this evening. At least from Taye's perspective, it's a nice, companionable silence, both giving the other the space desired. Buuuut... sometimes talking can be good, too. Taye's ears give a gentle flick and he casts a brief sideways glance at the other. "... So what're you thinkin' about?" There's a calm and contented look about him, just the hint of a smile touching his lips.

Quinten hmms and raises his head, turning it on one side and peering at Taye through the fall of his ears. "I was thinking about the trip i want to make and how to convince the Colonel and Major to give me the go-ahead. Was also thinking about...relationships."

Taye hms softly, then nods as he glances back toward the window. He continues to look at as he responds. "Well. What sort o' trip 'n' what sort o' relationships?" Another faint smile.

Quinten shakes his head and sighs, "Relationships along the line of me being single and how much that sucks. And as for trip, i want to go north a bit to the woodlands to test out those dyes of mine. I have a great idea of how i can make it go green but i need to test it."

"Well. Why doncha just volunteer fer a patrol headin' up that way, 'n' ask for special permission t' do that while yer on the patrol?" Taye figures it'd be best to get the easy answer out of the way, first. That done, he considers the other bit for a few seconds before glancing to Quinten, again. "Ya won't be single forevah, mate. But y'know, it /is/ hard. I mean. There's what? Five bucks fer every doe or somethin' ridiculous like that?" He shakes his head.

Quinten nods his head and sighs, "Aye i did ask the Major about going on a patrol up that way, but he never gave me an answer." He shifts and shakes his head sadly. "I had a great relationship with Gabby but she moved to the ABbey for good that was never going work." he smiles at taye. "What about you Taye? You seem quite happy tonight."

When Quinten turns the question around on him, Taye can only grin and shrug. "I dunno - s'just a nice night. Don't mind Sentry Duty s'much on nights like this - ya know?" He shrugs again, a happy-go-lucky sort of shrug. "Gives ya time t' think about 'n' appreciate things."

Quinten nods his head, "Aye that it does Taye, it is a beautiful night out there, makes me want to go down to the shore and stand in the water and watch the moon ride over the ocean...ahhh that would be wonderful."

Taye grins at Quinten's words, nodding his agreement. He then indicates the shore with a slight nod of his head. "... I always like the way you c'n see the moonlight sparklin' in the waves as they break. S'beautiful from up here." Leave it to a couple of young bucks to get all moony on ya. "Wouldn't mind a nice swim right about now, eithah."

Quinten sighs deeply and nods, reaching down to the floor for a flask he has brought up with him. "Oh aye, walking along the turf, paw in paw with someone you care about just watching the silverly road leading out into infinity as the moon shines down."

Taye's lips twitch in faint amusement, his eyes shifting Quinten's way once more. "... You really /are/ obsessed with that whole relationship thing, aincha?" He shakes his head, looking faintly amused.

Quinten chuckles and shrugs, "Guess it is just on me mind tonight.," he holds up the flask, "Tea?"

Hum. That sounds good. Taye dips his head in a nod. "Ya don't mind sharin'?"

Quinten shakes his head, "Nah i always make sure to bring enough for two when i come up on sentry duty." he fishes about under his stool for two beakers and hands one to Taye so he can fill it up.

Taye takes the offered beaker with a nod of thanks, leaning over Quinten's way while he waits for it to be filled up. "Thanks, mate." Once it is filled, he settles back to his own spot, sniffing thoughtfully at the tea before taking a sip. A little one. So that he doesn't burn his mouth or anything. "Ya miss Gabby?"

Quinten sighs and sips his tea, staring down at the sea before answering. "Of course i miss Gabby, she was so full of life and excitement."

Taye shrugs a teensy bit. He didn't really know the rabbit well enough to say one way or another. "... Well. That's most does. They're always hypah like that." Possibly thinking back to his own brief relationship with a doe? Hm-hm. "Ya just gotta put yerself out there. Go t' the tavern or the rec room - meet some gels."

Quinten chuckles, "Ahhh what doe is gonna be interested in me Taye? I mean look at the choices they got, all you tall buff bucks got loads od advantage over short old me."

"Well, there's short /does/ too, y'know." Taye offers this bit of wisdom with an amused grin. He shakes his head. "'Sides, it's not all about looks."

You say, "Aye personality is important too..what about you taye? how goes your hunt for a doe? Unless you have one already.""

Ooh, it's The Question. Taye looks back toward the window, what with it being, y'know, sentry duty and all. "... Eh. I'm not really lookin', t' be honest." He shrugs, glancing briefly back to the other buck. "Just can't be fussed."

Quinten nods at the answer, "Aye well I am sure in time you'll meet someone and not be able to let them go. Someone will ask you, "Whose your doe." And a face will flash into your mind and you'll be pole-axed as you realise they are the gal for you."

Whew. Saved. Taye puts on a thoughtful face, and nods. "... Yeah. Yer prob'ly righ'."

Quinten stands up and stretches and sips his tea again, "Ahhh will you look at those waves....silver in the moonlight." the buck falls silent again, watching the water washing against the shore.

"... Yeah. Well. Guess we bettah focus on watchin' out." And he falls silent again, with another brief glance to the other buck before his eyes turn to the window.

Quinten turns his head one last time and smiles at Taye, "Thanks Taye...for the chat, it has helped." he then turns back and falls into silence, watching the moon drenched shore once more.
