RW Abbey: Infirmary

Several beds are lined against the red sandstone walls of the Abbey's

Infirmary. An examination table, separated from the rest of the room by

hanging blankets, rests against the far wall. Tucked into a small

alcove is a sizeable workbench with various containers for mixing and

preparing medicinal compounds. Against another wall is a desk for use by

the Infirmary Keeper. A curtained off alcove behind the desk hides a

locked door to the Infirmary's supplies and linens.

Flickering his ears back, both of Jakk's hazel eyes turn to Kaelin's

knee and he seems sadly thoughtful before nodding. "Yeah.. I live in the

mountain. Used to be with my mom, but moved there when I became a

recruit." He goes to lean back more.

The door swings open and Quinten Walks inside slowly, he's dressed in

an immaculate uniform and he looks around and sags in relief as he sees

Jakk moving across towards him. Something is different about the

recruit...he looks healthy if a bit drawn and tired....a nice uniform...and

the badge of a 2nd Class Recruit on his lapel.....that is not right.

"I'm going to be heading back with you all I think. Give the mountain a

once over." Kaelin shifts, reaching behind her to grab one of her

pillows which goes to prop up said knee with a wince. Her ears flick

forward, eyeing the entering buck with a frown.

Nodding, Jakk notes the doe's sudden frown as she redirects her

attention to the entrance. He does so himself, ears lifting with curiosity.

Nothing is observed about Quinten except the fact that he /is/ alive and

standing there. For the moment the young recruit just sits, staring at

the other.

Quinten salutes Jakk and moves over to his bedside. "Your alive...oh

thank the forest your alive Jakk..i'm so sorry i was a complete

idiot...can you forgive me/"

Silence. Staring silence. Finally Jakk just smirks a little and nods.

"You're right.. you were an idiot." He seems to not think anything is

wrong, though that tired look is still in his eyes.

Quinten nods his head and his ears pin back, "Well your safe Jakk...and

we both learnt a lesson...i'm being sent back to the Mountain i just

came to say goodby when i heard you and Miss Kaelin where up here, i owe

you both an appology and a goodbye."

Jakk seems to just look like he isn't sure what to do, almost hunched

over there upon the cot as his gaze turns away from Quinten. "Oh...

Alright. Good bye then." Nothing else is stated, his expression suddenly

different than he was.

Quinten sighs and his ears pin back, "They demoted me Jakk....i'm first

class recruit Quinten now....Colonel's ordered me home to face the

music. Am being escorted back in Disgrace...i don't wnna leave but i got no

chpice."

"What about me, then? Am I gonna be punished... 'escorted back in

disgrace'?" Jakk looks like he isn't sure what he expected, but this isn't

it. Definitely not.

Quinten shakes his head "Nah..i'm taking full responsibility Jakk,

think you can expect a talking to by the Major maybe but it was my fault

not yours."

Jakk shakes his head, before going to lay down on his uninjured side,

curling his legs up to his chest. "Alright. Guess you have to go then."

He sighs, breathing in deeply.

Quinten nods his head and reaches out a paw to lay it on your shoulder,

"You did good Jakk, you escaped on your own, killed a vermin, you did

good. I was the moron"

Jakk shakes as he tenses at the touch, before relaxing. He closes his

eyes and nods. "Two vermin.. I killed two..." He coughs lightly, then

sighs again.

Quinten smiles and nods his head "Nearly level with me then." He grins

trying to add a bit of leviety to this meeting. "Still you did good

Jakk and i'll write to you ok, i'll send you letters and see how your

doing."

Jakk bobs his head in response that he hears him. "Alright, Quin. Guess

I'll get your letters then." Nothing more is said of the vermin and he

seems to want it that way anyhow. "Thanks."

Quinten smiles and lets the vermin questions drop and settles down,

"Anything you need? I could maybe get the patrol taking me home to bring

you something from home as they got to come back this way."

"Just.. I want my daggers. The vermin still have the other set. I didn'

get them back." Jakk glances up at Quinten, ears flickered back.

Somewhere on the muck, Flaxpaw has connected.

Quinten nods his head and lays a paw on your shoulder as he stands up,

"Ok i'll get them sent back here for you, where you got them stashed?"

Jakk lays on his back, arms folded upon his chest as he tilts his head

up to Quinten, the bandaging on his neck showing plainly. "My mom has

them.. please don' tell her about the situation."

Quinten nods and stands up "Sure i'll just say you asked for them to be

sent over as your going to be here awhile. You rest up Jakk and i'll

send em over now i gotta go say by to Brother Keiran and join the patrol"

Jakk nods, smirking just a little. "Alright, Quin. I'll see ya then,

when I go back to the mountain." A paw has gone out to grasp the other

recruit's lightly. "Thanks again." Before he drops his arm from his

without another word. The buck seems a bit odd.

Quinten nods and gives Jakk a brief salute before loping out of the

room to go and finish his goodbyes and leave the abbey behind.

- Change Scene

RW Abbey: Library

The library is disturbingly empty of books and scrolls, and only a

small fraction of the knowledge it should be able to hold is actually

present and available for perusing. The beautifully crafted windows are

well cleaned. Giving the library plenty of light during the daylight

hours. This, combined with the room's high vaulted ceiling, causes a rather

foreboding play of shadows in the corners and between shelves. The

flagstones of the floor are cool and smooth, and echoes of clicks and

thumps can be heard quite clearly when beasts walk among the mostly bare

shelves. Brass lamps containing short, fat little white candles provide

enough light for reading.

Light is beginning to filter in through the windows.

Keiran is just closing a book, a pen going on a nearby scrap of

parchment tip first. Clearing his throat gently, he cracks his knuckles

against each other and locates a cork on the surface of the table he's

occupying, grabbing it and plugging up the ink well he'd been using. Leaving

the parchment he'd just been writing upon out, he looks it over now,

elbows on the table and chin in paws.

The door cracks open and a head peeks around it, long ears flopping

down ahead of him, when the buck sees the Brother he moves further into

the room and shuts the door. It is Quinten dressed in his recruits

uniform, he walks forwards and salutes. "Brother Keiran"

Keiran looks up from his reading at the sound of his name, and sits

backwards slightly as he sees it's Quinten. "Ah, 'ello Quint. Afternoon,

y'gettin' back from trainin'?" he asks, his eyes going to the uniform

inquisitively. "Think m'about ready t'start c'nstruction o'th'Belltower,

heh!"

Quinten sighs and flops down into a chair and nods, "Thats is good

sir...maybe i can come back and see it when its been finished. I won't be

staying here sir, i'm being shipped back to the mountain in disgrace."

Keiran's ears fold at Quinten's news, brow very slightly furrowed in

confusion. "Disgrace? Wha' d'y'mean?" The brother looks concerned, and

pretty much in disbelief. "Disgrace t'whom?"

Quinten sighs and places his paws in his head, "To the patrol, been

demoted back to 1st class recruit too, me and Jakk got jumped by Vermin on

the way to the 67th. He got captured for a few days and is up in the

infirmary now. Orders came back in from the Colonel like..."

"Is tha' wha' 'appened...?" Keiran sighs, shaking his head. "Tha's too

bad. I 'njoyed 'avin' y'aroun'." He tsks, sadly. "Sure there's nothin'

th'Abbey c'n do t'keep y'here?" he asks, hopefully, frown evident on

his face.

Quinten smiles at Keiran sadly, "aye that is wot happened, Major and

Colonel decided it was the last straw and that i'd messed up one to many

times." He stares at the half empty shelves and sighs. "Only thing to

keep me here was me writing and my work with you....i'd have to resign

the patrol...if i wanted to stay."

"Oh..." Keiran lowers his head and slumps his shoulders slightly, ears

folding over slightly more. "I see. Don' wan' y'throwin' all tha'

away." He looks disappointed, but shrugs, trying to be optimistic. "Maybe

y'/can/ come back an' see 't once i's finished. After all, y'were

instr'mental 'n i's c'nstruction."

Quinten smiles sadly and nods starring at the floor, he pulls something

out of his belt bouch and slides it over to the brother. It is a piece

of parchment, "I was thinking about packing it all in.....you

know...join the order i'm better at the recording anyway. But i don't want to

dissapoint the Colonel or the Major any more and i can make it in the

patrol if i try hard....and i want to be part of it, I just don't knwo

what to tdo."

Keiran looks down at the parchment as it's slid over to him, back up at

the recruit for a moment, then down at the passed paper again. "Y'sh'd

stick to 't. I c'n tell when a beast's th'type f'th'Lon' Patrol, an'

when a beast's th'type f'th'Abbey. Y'one o'th'types tha' belon's more at

Salamandastron than here, b'lieve me."

Quinten stares dully at the resignation letter and slowly picks it back

up and stuffs it into his pouch again. "You tink so brother? Just i've

liked it here..helping to prepare the plans for the bell

tower....reading all these books. I think they might stop my scholastic persuits

completly and make me concentrate on training"

Keiran shakes his head down at the letter until it's gathered back by

Quinten. "Yeh, I do think so. B'lieve me, I'm all for new beas's t'join

th'Order, an' wouldn' chase one away 'f I though' they were perfect

f'th'job. But I /know/ tha', once y'settle thin's an' grow up a li'l more,

y'll realize y'belon' in th'Patrol more'n we need y'here."

Somewhere on the muck, Jarril has connected.

Quinten nods his head and sighs, "But i don't want to loose all me

skills as a writer....and if they stuff me head first into fighter training

and nothing else i'll loose it all."

Keiran looks to Quinten, shaking his head with a serious look. "Tha's

nonsense, Quint. S'not somethin' y'jus' /lose./ Y'don' worry 'bout tha'.

B'sides. M'sure th'wouldn' cut y'off from writin' e'ery once 'n a

while. Not constantly, o'course, bu' tha' ne'er shoulda been th'case."

Quinten nods and scratches his ears, "Thats why i was escorting Jakk to

the 67th, i wanted to focus nme training for a bit, get away from all

the book learning but it all went kind of wrong."

"Then there!" Keiran grins cheerily. "See, y'don' 'ave anythin' t'worry

'bout. A li'l booklearnin' takes no time, an' can b'done by y'self,

e'en 'f they f'bid it, which I don' think they'll do."

Quinten stands up and fiddles with his tunic sleeve and then he tugs an

object out from under his belt and sets it on the table. It looks like

a minature tower carved from wood, "I made this...based of the

plans...thought it might be useful you know...so you don't have to get the

plans out all the time."

Quinten looks out the window and frowns at the sun, "Erm...wot time is

it? I never did get the hang of telling time by looking at the

sun...i'm being escorted back by four others, they're coming to get me about an

hour after noon."

"I've no idea. 'aven' really been ousside yet t'day, bu' 'f I 'ad

t'guess, it'd be 'proachin noon righ' now." Keiran nods to the recruit.

"I'll b'sorry t'see y'go, though. Thanks f'all th'help an' f'bein' a good

listener an' student."

Quinten smiles and salutes then holds out his paw to the Brother to

shake. "No thank you for letting me be your student, you never know i

might be able to come back someday soon, when i reach private maybe. Take a

sabbatical to finish my training under you."

Keiran stands up and reaches out to shake Quinten's paw back. "I'll

b'waitin' f'ya. Don' give up on th'Patrol, though. I's s'posed t'be 'ard

f'somebeasts a' firs', but m'sure y'll blend 'n fine once y'get a few

thin's straightened out with y'self." He nods encouragingly, though he's

still looks a little disappointed that Quinten has to return to the

mountain.

Quinten smiles and nods, "I hope so....i'm just gonna keep my head down

and work hard. Gonna have to learn to ignore the other hares too, me

demotions going to make me fair game for picking on." He grins softly,

"Aye'll just ask if they wanna train in the boxing ring...i'm pretty good

in there." His smiles fades and he sighs, "I'm gonna miss the

abbey...but i promise i'll write to you brother, keep you posted like."

Somewhere on the muck, Zoe_Lang has disconnected.

"Heh... Don' give y'self t'vengeance, bu' 'f y'need t'prove somethin',

then box away." Keiran nods to Quinten, and then again. "Th'Abbey'll

miss you. 'f y'write, I'll write back. Got plenty o'time t'do so, heh."

He scratches behind one of his ears and grins. "Still wish th'was

somethin' I c'd do."

Quinten smiles and sakes his head "Convince Colonel Francis it was all

a big misunderstanding and i'm her star recruit maybe?" He smirks at

that and even chuckles, "Still i'm just glad Jakk is safe, look after him

for me brother"

Keiran smirks, shaking his head as well. "Heh, I don' know 'f tha's a

possibility." He shrugs, and leans back in his chair after having a seat

again. "I'll try. Though I don' know 'f 'e likes bein' treated like a

kid s'much. From what I've seen, s'jus' brough' 'im t'anger when

somebeas' does so."

Quinten nods his head "aye i noticed that meself...just keep an eye on

him is all, he's like a brother you know and we were finally starting

to get along good and now i got to leave him behind. Still i'll be

writing to him too and sending him something back with the patrol too."

"Will do." Keiran nods to the recruit. "S'pose y'better get somethin'

t'eat b'fore y'escort shows up, righ'?" The buck grins. "Make sure

y'legs keep liftin' on th'march, an' all tha'."

Quinten chuckles and nods and then grins, "Heeey...i can stock up on

abbey vittles....the patrol taking me back will onlyhave rations from the

67th..." he grins, "If you'll excuse me brother igotta go get me some

good food packed away."

"A'righ'. Good luck on y'journey back, an' thanks again f'y'help."

Keiran stands again and salutes the recruit, following it up with a wave.

"Write t'me when y'get back!"

Quinten nods and salutes again and with a grin bounds for the door,

seems he's doing his best to stay in good spirits at least. He darts out

of the library and the door swings shut behind him, the buck exiting

stage left from Keiran's life... for now at least.
