Quinten Log 110 - 12 05 2006

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

RW Abbey: First Orchard

A soft blanket of snow covers ground, bush, and branch. The trees, leafless as they are, appear stark and black against this backdrop, their branches like so many spindly fingers reaching outward and up. The ground here is mostly level, with only the occasional small hillock. Despite the invaluable purpose of this place in warmer seasons, right now it merely appears a barren, lifeless patch of the Abbey grounds.

The sun is peeking sleepily through the branches, and the occasional chirp of birdsong can be heard on the morning air.

With: [DYN] Zoey.

The orchards trees are a mixture of green leaves and blossoms, the grass is quite soft and comfortable and Recruit Quinten is sat on a log flicking through some of his notes, he's taken his sandals off and hiked his robes up so he can dangle his footpaws in a tub of water. A hoe is resting next to him on the ground as well as a small basker

Somewhere on the muck, Zeraph has reconnected.

Starwind is up in the trees, having..well having a nap there really, he seems used to it, the young hare, yawning softly as he slowly begins to stir, sitting up finally and pushing back to the trunk and resting upon it, "What a beautiful day." He says quietly to himself, watching the clouds slowly move.

"Last I checked," the Colonel's voice comes from behind where Quinten sits, "novices had not been set with the task o' soakin' their feet 'n' soakin' up the sun..." The Colonel stands with arms crossed, looking down at him.

Quinten leans back and saltes Zoe "No ma'am excpet when they are free ma'am, i'm done with my chores for now and have a few hours until my next class" he stands up and turns around to salute her

Jarril drifts in from the Abbey Pond..

Starwind wakes up a bit more and blinks, seeing that there are others down below he makes his way the tree he was resting in, well goes down about 3 quarters of the way down before giving a little jump off and landing on his feet.

Zoe_Lang's eyebrows go up and she gives a soft tsking of her tongue. "Free time in the middle o' the day... I dunno 'bout that, lad." She considers him for a moment. "Who d'ya report to, lad? Brothah Keiran? I should think so, with him bein' a librarian 'n' yer affinity fer writin'."

Jarril is out for one of those nice carefree walks of his, paws behind his back and feeling quite relaxed and happy today. There's quite a bit more hop to his walking pace than before as he slowly enters the orchard area of the grounds.

Quinten looks confused and scratches an ear "Yes Ma'am it is Brother Keiran, but what am i supposed to do when i have an hour spare" he looks at Starwind and then across at Zoe "I finished tending the garden and my class is not for an hour"

Zoe_Lang's lips twitch. "Well. Have you attended to yer recruit trainin' today?" Her expression remains neutral, but her eyes twinkle just the teeniest bit. Mm-hm.

Somewhere on the muck, Zeraph has disconnected.

Starwind remains quiet as the other hares talk, remaining polite, but his ears perk lightly at the mention of recruit training, his eyes wander till they see Jarril giving a small nod to the other before bringing his attention back to the hares.

Quinten shifts and is starting to look uncomfortable fiddling with his cowl "Of course....i went running this morning and i had boxing practice....though i'm still kinda avoiding anyone from the 67th....i'mm sorry...i'll go find something to do then..."

Jarril keeps on walking more into the orchard now but he's not exactly heading in the direction of the other hares, unless he's called for. Right now the major seems to be in a happy mood which is rare these days.

After considering the recruit-novice for another moment, the Colonel merely grunts. "At ease, novice. Just see that ya don't spend too much time with idle paws, eh? The more effort you put int' a thing, the more you'll get out o' it." Then, she relents with a smile. "That 'n' I was mostly just teasin' ya. Go back to yer studyin', or whatevah it was you were doin'."

Quinten shifts and lowers his ears "Yes ma'am....i was working anyway" he picks up the parchemnt "I was just checking my spelling...can you..take this back home for me? it's my last Life at Sala...i won't be able to send them home now"

Coming to a stop, the major looks about and then spots the other hares before making his way over to them in a sort of jogging motion, he quickly makes it over and comes to a stop. "Colonel, Quinten..." He looks at the other hare and says politely. "Sah."

Zoe_Lang holds out her paw for it with a nod. "'Course I can, lad. I can't promise how we'll it'll do on the march, but if it's damaged I'll faithfully rewrite i-" Her attention is brought to Jarril, then, and she nods before saluting. "G'day, cousin."

Quinten smiles and nods "Thank you ma'am...i'll still be writing them though...and if i can get them home to you i'll send them" he then spots the Major and salutes "Major"

Starwind nods, then blinks a bit, "Colonel?...Sala?" He's mind running..putting two and two together finally, "Colonel Zoe_lang?" His ears really perked now.

Jarril gives a nod back to Zoe. "'ello cousin, so you're going ta be leaving soon I take it?"

Quinten shifts and takes a step back to let the Major and Colnel talk, he nods to the other hare and sits down on his log picking up his basket and peering inside it

Zoe_Lang dips her head in a nod. "That I am. Next coupla da-".. ays. The doe's ears perk and she looks around at the other, unfamiliar hare present. She arches a brow, then, and nods a greeting. "Why, hullo there. It seems you've got an advantage on me. If I /ought/ t' know you, I apologize 'n' blame m'advanced seasons." She grins.

Starwind Shakes his head quickly, "oh no Colonel, you wouldn't know me. Sir Lee Dan Starwind..just Starwind really, Knights of the order of the Moon.....um..right." He adds remembering, "Were supposed to thank you if we ever see you or a Long Patrol Officer for the care you gave our Ambassador..."

Jarril ponders for a moment to remember the said incident if it occurred while he was at the mountain remaining silent for the time being, he places his paws behind his back.

Quinten picks up an inkpot from the log and stoppers it, putting it away safely in his in the basket he stands up and moves around to Jarril "Sir...do you know if you have to go back yet?"

Kestrel has arrived.

Oh, her memory. The Colonel considers for a long moment, but then, with a hint of embarassment, says, "Remembah me of the name?"

Jarril looks at Quinten and shakes his head. "No, I be staying, unfortunately for ya." He gives a wink to the young recruit.

Quinten sighs in mock sorrow and lets his ears droop back "Oh woe is me....sentanced tae seasons of yer cruel cruel regieme how ever will this young buck survive"

Starwind nods, "Sir (name) He says quietly, "It was some time ago...we would have thanked you sooner...but well..we couldn't really spare anyone for it." He gives a light apologetic bow.

Jarril shakes his head at Quinten. "It's not that bad, ya know." He gives a smile and listens to the other conversation.

Quinten chuckles and winks "Just joking sir, i'm glad your staying it wouldn't be the same without you"

Kestrel's entrance is somewhat abrupt. There's a telltale rustling in the trees, followed by swaying branches, followed by the marten herself dropping to the orchard floor. She's squinting, one brow lifted higher than the other.

Some amount of recognition comes into her face and she inclines her head. "Ah, yes. Well, no need t' thank me, lad, nor bow t' me. " She chuckles. "I trust the past couple of seasons've faired well fer you 'n' yer group?"

Jarril looks at Quinten again and nods. "Flattery will get ya nowhere, ya do know that, right?" He gives Quinten a wink.

Starwind gives a light sigh, "not truly..but things seem to be going better i suppose."

The hares not best at giving info ,"WE have a new leader now, Lady Lilla Jade Ramsey..though, how have things been with the Long Patrol."

Quinten nods his had and smiles "Of course sir but it doesn't help to stay firendly with my commanding officer"

"The Patrol's been well, m'lad, the patrol's been well. I have t' say 'm anxious t' return home t' the mountain." The Colonel offers a brief grin, glancing over to where Jarril and Quinten stand nearby.

Kestrel rubs behind one ear, seemingly content to move only so far as to lean against the tree she just descended from, and say nothing to interrupt the conversation.

I'd just let you all know. I've got some stinky heart condition which is...yeah. You don't all /need/ details. *shrug*" (Group chat: Long-Patrol)

Jarril ears twitch to that one and he doesn't reply to Quinten right away. Biting his lip he returns his gaze back to Quinten again. "Er, yes, quite."

Quinten looks over at Zoe and frowns somewhat at her words then turns back to Jarril and smiles "When will we see you out on the training runs with us?"

Jarril ponders, rubbing behind his neck. "When I have time which should be a lot after my patrah ends up heading back..."

Starwind nods, "I can understand that, the want to go home is always a strong one." He smiles a little bit, "I hope your return is uneventful and joyous."

Zoe_Lang seems oblivious to the slightly displeased looks she's receiving from the other two. She inclines her head in thanks to Star's words. "Thank ya kindly, lad."

Kestrel finally leans off of the tree and approaches, still rubbing behind one ear. "Um. Hello?"

Jarril shakes his head and moves along a bit away from the other two hares, the major looking about for a bit.

Quinten steps after Jarril and nods to Kestrel "Good day there now"

Zoe_Lang's attention shifts to none other than Kestrel and becomes rivoted there. After a moment and without explanation, her expression breaks out into a grin. "... I'd almost b'leve you were her." She shakes her head.

Quinten pauses and looks at Colonel "Ma'am?" he looks back at the marten "Who could she be?"

Jarril gives another look to the marten and smiles himself, turning to Zoe. "Ya know cousin, ya could be right there."

Kestrel's cheeks turn slightly pinkish, but there's a faint smile about her lips. "Are you taking a vacation, Colonel?"

Zoe_Lang chuckles, sending a glance Quinten's way. "Her mothah, m'lad. None othah than Lady Kevarr. An old friend 'n' ally of hte patrol. I remembah bouncin' this'un on m'knee." She grins, then nods to Jarril in acknowledgement.

Quinten nods his head "Oh....Lady Kevarr...i have read a thing or two about here....butthere is not much on her ma'am"

Jarril knew Kevarr as he nods back to Zoe before looking at Kestral again. "I say, has it been that long ago now?" The hare scratches the back of his neck. "Wow, whodda thought, wot."

Zoe_Lang inclines her head. "If there's anyin' Kev was, it was modest. I'm not s'prised that there wouldn't be much written on 'er." She turns to Kestrel again, with a nod and a smile. "A vacation? Ya might say that. Just droppin' off some troublesome recruits."

Jarril gives a cough on that one.

Quinten chuckles softly and raises a paw "Troublesome ma'am....me record speaks fer itself i'm no trouble"

Jarril rolls his eyes on that one as well.

"She didn't much like it," Kestrel murmurs, still looking a little pink around her ears. She eyes Quinten curiously for a moment at the 'troublesome recruits' mention.

Zoe_Lang drops Kestrel a wink. "Well. Mayhaps we'll exclude this'un from the 'troublesome' lot, aftah all. How goes yer novice trainin', deah?"

Quinten smiles and salutes the Colonel "Thank ye Colonel ma'am i'll take that as a compliment"

Kestrel clears her throat. "Well...it doesn't. I mean, it's been on hold for a while. I've been visiting my grandmother. I actually haven't been here for almost..." She frowns, as if mentally calculating. "...One, two seasons?"

Zoe_Lang looks surprised. "Yer grandmothah? On yer mothah or fathah's side?" Why she should be surprised, she's not sure. Speaking of which, "How is yer fathah?

Jarril quietly makes his way from the group, leaving them to continue on talking as he carries on with his walk.

Quinten waves good bye to the Colonel and turns back to Kestrel and salutes "Well miss i'm Quiten second class recruit in the Long Patrol and i seem to be an abbey Novice as well, pleasure to meet you"

"Mother's," Kestrel replies. She grimaces, faintly. "I haven't seen him in quite a while. I was hoping he might be here." Her attention shifts to Quinten, and she bobs her head, just slightly. "I'm Kestrel."

"Hm," is her only immediate response. She looks between Quinten and Kestrel for a moment, then stumbles upon a question. "D'you intend to return to yer novice duties now that ya've returned?"

Quinten smiles and holds out a paw "Pleasure to meet you then miss Kestrel" he glances at the colonel and grins "I'm glad you let us cme here ma'am its lookng to be a great experience"

Kestrel shakes the paw carefully, smiling a little further. "I'd like to. I've had a lot of time to...think, about things. But I need to speak to Sunrose about it."

Zoe_Lang nods her understanding. "I'm sure she'll be fine with it, m'gel. I wish ya luck." Then, with a small grin and a glance to Quinten, "I'm sure the recruits wouldn't mind the presence of a more experienced novice t' show 'em the ropes."

Quinten chuckles and nods "Aye though the ropes seem pretty easy to get the hang of, unlike the mountain...trust me Miss Kestrel do not sign up as a Recruit"

Kestrel grins slightly. "Well, I don't think I qualify anyway." She nods at Zoe, looking slightly grateful for the reassurance.

Quinten smirks "Oh all Novices of a certain level qualify i believe to enter the exchange" he chuckles

Zoe_Lang listens to the exchange between the two somewhat-novices, unable to help but smile. "I think, Quinten, that you'll find that things'll get hardah as ya go along, just s'they do in the mountain." She looks up at the sun, then, considering the time of day. Squint. "I believe... I'll have to be goin'. Hopefully I'll see the both o' you again before I leave for the mountain." She nods.

Quinten looks up at the sun and curses, a good proper military curse, he never was any good with the sun as a time source "Oh drat...i have a class...i think.." he glances at the colonel "and i know things get harder but i will not surrender"

Kestrel nods, clasping her paws lightly behind her back. "I'll see both of you later then. I'll be in the gatehouse, unless someone else has started staying in there."

Quinten pauses and grins "The gatehouse...i've not been in there before what is it like?"

Zoe_Lang chuckles at Quinten's distress and following easy distraction. With a wry shake of her head, she waves a paw to the two and turns, heading off to whatever task she needs to attend to.

Kestrel shrugs one shoulder. "It's just a small room, and a loft. It's where my family lived when I was younger."

Quinten nods "ahhh but all the stories of Redwall are full of texts about the Gatehouse"

Starwind has disconnected.

Kestrel shrugs again, looking a little uncomfortable. "Well, you can go and see for yourself if you want. But it's nothing special."

Keith drifts in from the Abbey Pond..

Quinten nods "Well i should probably be getting to class, i'll big you good day for now Miss Kestrel"

Keith trots into the area, his fingers linked behind his head. It doesn't take him too long to spot the marten and hare. "Whoa! There's a pretty face, and a new-sih one!"

Kestrel's entire face goes scarlet, rather than simply her cheeks or ears. She turns sharply, that previous grin returning in much greater measure. "'Lo, Keith."

Quinten turns to begin walking towards the pond picking up his sandals and hiking up his robe as he moves towards the abbey buildings, he is sure he has a class to get to but he can never work out the time

Keith strides up to Kestrel, moving to fit one arm across her shoulders and give her roundish ear a peck. "H'lo, Kes. Are you out here charming the new 'recruits' into behavin'?"

Kestrel glances toward Quinten as he leaves, before turning her full attention to Keith. "Well, I was going for a walk." She points upward, at the tree branches. "But then I found Colonel Zoe_Lang and a few other hares."

Keith eases his arm off after a moment, looking up into the tree. "Or a climb? I don't s'pose you marten's go for a walk. See, us mice - we go for a scamper. Or is that rabbits? .. Shoot." he mutters, derailed from the conversation until he hears 'Zoe_Lang' -- "Oh, really? Huh. There's a lot about. Som'thin about an educational thing?"

"Something like that," Kestrel replies, squinting slightly. "Or so I gathered. Have, um...have you seen my father around, lately?"

Keith's brows knit, "Eh.. no. I haven't. But, y'know, I'm sure he's alright."

Kestrel nods, stuffing her paws into each sleeve the same way other young adults might stuff them into pockets.

Quinten comes walking back into sight after about ten minutes and moves towards the log he was sat on "KEith...hello again, Miss Kestrel" he stops topick up his basket

Keith leans over and bumps Kestrel with his hip. "He probably is off doing Atma stuff, y'know, writing papers, overthrowing governments .." he pauses as Quinten steps in, "Oi there.. Hey .. how come I don't get to be called Mr. Keith?"

Kestrel smiles faintly at that. She turns her head toward Quinten. "...Do you want to be called Miss Keith instead?"

Quinten smirks and stands back up holding his basket "Well it would be rude to not address her so wot wot, aye've only just met miss Kestrel wot, you however Keith area rascal an no mistake"

Keiran is quite enjoying the still young afternoon, leaning casually on his walking staff as he hobbles into the orchard. And, as the case has often been since the Long Patrol recruits arrived, he runs into other beasts. Waving his paw high, he greets them all with a cheery, "Good aft'noon!" once he finds a temporary lapse in between speech.

Sparve has arrived.

Quinten nods to the Brother "Hello brother Keiran..." he shifts his basket "How are you today?"

Keiran smiles to Quinten, nodding to him briefly. "M'good, no c'mplaints. 'ow're you?" He gives an equal nod to both Kestrel and Keith. "Aft'noon, y'two," he greets them. "S'wha's goin' on in th'orchard?" He looks up curiously. "F'a secon' I though' th'apples were ripenin' early, bu'."

Quinten smiles at the brother "Oh not much sir i was having a break between classes but i got there and no one was there, so i came back to get my basket i forgot iy"

Kestrel takes Keith by the arm, clearly intending to steer him, and herself, out of the orchard. "Afternoon, Keiran."

Keiran watches the marten and mouse go with an earflick, following them with another wave of his paw. "See y'later." Shrugging, Keiran turns back to Quinten. "Y'prob'ly missed th'class, then." Quite matter of fact of him... Though he's smiling in a rather disarming fashion.

Quinten frowns "I was sure i was there on time Brother really....sorry about that"

Llewenayah has left.

"Well, y'either missed 't by a lot, 'r it 'asn' 'appened yet," Keiran offers with a grin. "Jus' try an' stay with y'group-- all th'recruits from th'mountain 'ave th'same classes a'th'same time, since y'all Firs' Level novices."

Ellyllden drifts in from the Abbey Pond..

Quinten nods his head "Yes brother i'll try...please..don't tell the major....i sat down out here after i finished my chores to do some writing...then i got talking to Kestrel and Ketih and the Colonel.."

Keiran looks oddly at Quinten. "...Settle down, y'worry t'much. Why w'd I tell th'major? Y'jus' missed a class..." Shrugging this off, he just grins. "Anyway, 'f y'jus' stay with y'group, y'sh'd be fine, an' don' worry too much. Y'makin' /me/ nervous, heh!"

Quinten salutes "Sorry brother i'll worry less and smile more, i'm really enjoying it here in redwall Keiran sah, i'm learning alot already and yur books...well they are great your histories i cannot put them down"

A small bird glides over the abbey wall to head for the main building, spotting the hares in the orchard though she starts to head down towards them, a small screech sounded to alert them of her presence and note in a little pouch strapped on her front.

Keiran grins. "Good t'hear y'enjoyin' y'self an' our library. S'a li'l empty c'mpared t'how it /should/ look, bu' m'lookin' t'fix tha'..." He trails off as he hears the kestrel, and looks above. "Huh. S'tha' bird wan' somethin'?"

Quinten looks up and smiles "It is a Kestrel Brother....and look its wearing something...you do not see them on the shore but iu found a sketch book of birds back home"

Sparve flops down onto the ground a short distance away and turns her head so one eye looks them over, keep her distance for a moment before edging her way over towards them.

"Aft'noon, miss!" Keiran smiles, greeting her with his regular high wave. At the edging, one of his eartips folds over curiously. "C'n I 'elp ya?" the hare offers, taking a step towards the kestrel.

Ellyllden wanders through the winter ravaged orchard, following the voices until he finds the source. He quietly leans against a tree, and watches the scene before him.

Quinten stays where he is doesn't want to upset the bird "I'll stay back they seem nervous of us"

Ellyllden wanders through the flowering orchard, following the voices until he finds the source. He quietly leans against a tree, and watches the scene before him.

Sparve is just a tiny thing really, can perch on beasts quite comfortably if she fancies it, her only response to Keiran though is another quieter screech and her moving to show off the note in it's pouch a little better.

Keiran leans over, squinting to see Sparve more closely. "Well... What y'got there?" Leaning heavily on his staff, he kneels down, reaching for the pouch of the tiny bird. "S'this why y'here? Y'wan' t'deliver this?"

Quinten nods to the mouse and leans forwards trying to peer at the note as well "What is it brother? can you see/"

Ellyllden nods back and continues to watch the little bird.

Sparve hops closer to Keiran so he can take the note, she seem quite eager not to be on the ground for long, the note itself if taken and read would say 'Had one of our otters come back to Camp Willow and was dealt with in your infirmary, says he got attacked by another large otter on the river moss, apparently the otter's name is Garne, our chap's lost his voice though and writing is terrible, might be best to keep eyes open either way -Skipper Hallow'.

Quinten smiles at the mouse "Morning to you sir" he leans across trying to read the note"

Sparve whispers, "Lol" to you.

Unfortunately for Quinten, Keiran takes the note and stands up, reading it to himself, his ears folding at their half points. "...Hmm." He rests to the side on his staff. "Seems s'a li'l problem on th'River Moss."

Quinten nods "Oh? who is it from Brother? what does it say?"

"S'from Camp Willow. 'parently s'an otter on th'River s'causin' trouble." Keiran folds up the letter and looks back down to the kestrel. "Thankya, we'll keep 'n eye out f'this otter."

Sparve bobs her head quickly to Keiran and turns to take off once more and fly back the way she came.

Quinten nods "Oh well i hope they do not come here, of course you can always set the Long Patrol on them now if they do try anything"

Ellyllden sits and takes out his harp and begins to tune it. "Aren't you two Long Patrol?"

"'ere's 'opin' 'e doesn' 'cause trouble 'ere. Th'otters o'Camp Willow'll 'ave th'problem fixed soon 'nough, an' th'Guosim migh' e'en run inta this otter soon." And finally, he turns to Ellyllden, regarding him for the first time. "'ello, aft'noon. Uh, m'not Long Patrol, m'actually a Brother 'ere at th'abbey. Quinten 'ere's a recruit in th'Patrol, though."

Quinten salutes the Mouse "Hello there i'm a recruit indeed and here i'm a Novice as well"

Ellyllden grins "That's gotta keep ye busy. Say, what happened here, I noticed the wall over that way is damaged."

"Yeh, th'poor 'are 'ere's gotta deal with bein' a novice /an'/ a recruit at th'same time." Keir sorta leans on his staff some more, resting casually. "Don' think we've met. M'name's Brother Keiran Fletchpaw, sir."

Quinten smiles and salutes Ellyllden "I'm Recruit Quinten and i'll leave the rest of me name off its a tad long"

Ellyllden puts his harp down and stands. Ellyllden does a rather extravagant bow. "Me names Ellyllden Teyn, I wander hither an' yon an' make my home under the stars. Tis nice to meet ye, sirs."

"S'nice t'meet you, too, 'lyllden." Keiran grins to the mouse. "Wha' brings y'here?"

Keiran room-pages, "LAME POSE!!!".

Quinten smiles at the mouse and nods "Yes well you are most welcome here"

Furgo walks into the orchard from the pond, each paw in the folds of the opposing sleeve.

Ellyllden says, "Tis good to be welcome. So, what brings ye here?" Ellyllden sits back down and continues to tune his harp."

Keiran looks toward Ellyllden's harp with a bit of curiosity, but doesn't interrupt the conversation, instead moving to sit against a tree in peace.

You ask, "Me? oh i am a Novice here at the abbey now, part of an exchange programme my leaders are runing""

Furgo sees Quinten, Keiran, and Ellyllden, and waves.

Ellyllden stops tuning long enough to wave back at Furgo. "Top o' th' mornin', Brother."

Furgo says, "Good Afternoon, erm... I don't believe we've met? I'm Broth..." His voice goes a bit crackly at that point, and he clears his throat. "I'm Brother Furgo."

Somewhere on the muck, Syrhenna has disconnected.

Quinten chuckles and looks over the other beasts there and smiles at Furgo "Good day Brother Furgo"

Furgo says, "Good day, Quinten. How are y..." His voice goes crackly again, and he clears his throat. "Sorry, my voice has been going h..." Crackly again. He clears his throat once more. He continues, "...hoarse lately."

Quinten smiles behind a paw at Furgo and nods "Aye they do that i hear....when we reach a certain age."

Ellyllden looks up from his harp, a worry clouding his face. "What age is that?"

Keiran stands up from his spot against the tree. "Aft'noon, Brother Furgo." He gives a wink to the mouse, giving him a wide grin at the name of Brother. "Y'll 'ave t'excuse me, mus' get a li'l more work done. No res' f'th'weary, heh..." He chuckles and hobbles on over out of the orchard. "Pleasure t'meet ya, sir 'lyllden."

Furgo waves goodbye to Keiran.

Ellyllden says, "And twas a pleasure talking with ye, sir.""

Quinten smiles and waves "Good bye brother Keiran see you later" he turns back to furgo and Elly "I don't know it is different apparently"

Ellyllden says, "Hmm. I'll have to watch that, crackly voices arn't good for bards." Ellyllden stands and stretches his legs."

Quinten laugs "I am sure you have passed it already friend"

Furgo says, "Yes, I asked my father about it, he said i..." Crackly. Clears Throat. "...it's part of growing up, and it happens before..." You know the drill. "...your voice gets deeper."

Ellyllden grins. "Yes, I was just pullin' your footpaw."

Quinten nods to furgo "Aye tthats what the Major said, i expect it'll hit me sooner or later"

Quinten nods to furgo "Aye tthats what the Major said, i expect it'll hit me sooner or later now i am 7 seasons old"

Jesse continues getting closer, continuing to sing his silly song about different creatures and objects. He's just now coming into view.

Ellyllden listens to the strange song with interest.

Quinten turns to look at jesse and laughs, he knows that voice he saw it in Halyard enough times "Jesse you wandering scruff bag of a mouse hello"

Jesse finishes off the sing with, "All of these are the world's creatures, oh, oh oh!" He smiles as he sees Quinten, and says, "Halloo! Is it possible that the patrol hare has traded in his fists for the peaceful life of a novice, or do my eyes deceive me though I'm but 10 seasons old?"

Ellyllden points to his harp. "Tis nice to hear another harper."

Quinten chuckles and winks "Sadly not Jesse my friend, i'm still a recruit just taking part in the novice programme for a few seasons to learn the way""

Furgo waves to Jesse, though they haven't met.

Ellyllden gives a fancy bow. "I'm Ellyllden Telyn, The Warrior Bard. It's nice to meet you."

Jesse nods. "Ah, yes, I do believe I heard something of that." And to Ellylden, "I'm Jesse, the Wandering Minstrel and Acrobat." He then bows solemnly to everyone. "I am quite afraid that you'll not see my full feats of minstrelsy and acrobatics, as my juggling knives, juggling swords, juggling torches, and my pole-vaulting staff have all been taken away from me."

Furgo says, "Welcome to Redwall Abbey, Jesse. I'm Brothe..." His voice cracks again, and he clears his throat. "I'm Brother Furgo."

Trundling along, following the outline of the pond comes Dandelion, looking lost, and dragging a broom handle with him for no apparent reason. His foot is still bandaged, but only very lightly no, and he appears to have no trouble walking on it. He's entirely oblivious to his surroundings, his whole attention focused on the ground immediately in front of him.

Ellyllden begins strumming an old lullaby on his harp. "Why were they taken away?" His eyes wander and focus on Dandelion.

Jesse says, "Because they don't allow weapons within these walls."

Quinten spots his friend and walks towards him "Hey Dande what are you doing with that broom handle?" he chuckles and flicks his long ears "Come and meet the mice minstrels"

Furgo sits down and watches.

Dandelion perks up his ears, and goes to join Quinten. "I'm supposed to go to the side gate later. Ya know where it is?" he asks as he gets closer, briefly acknowledging the others with a salute.

Quinten scratches his ears "Hmmm well there are three gates one in each of the other walls, east, south and north it could be any gate"

Furgo hears Dandelion, and would say something if Quinten hadn't beaten him to it.

Ellyllden nods his head at Dandelion, and continues his lazy strumming.

Dandelion groans and rolls his eyes. "Figures." he says. "I'll just find someone who was given better instructions." He doesn't seem in a great hurry, but pauses, shifting the broom handle from paw to paw. "Ministrels, you said?" he asks, looking around, curiously.

Quinten nods and points at Jesse and ellyllden "Aye jesse rremember him from Halyard? and Ellyllden they seem to be bards or minstrels of some kind wot, still i owe you a boxing lesson don't i?"

Jesse smiles, waving.

Furgo watches.

Ellyllden grins, and switches to a livelier tune.

Dandelion raises his paw in greeting to Jesse, and then uses it to paw at one of his ears. "Hi. Ah, I didn't go to Halyard that often..." he says, the latter being adressed to Quinten.

Jesse smiles.

Quinten nods his head and nudges the other recruit "Come on Dande do you have time for some friendly sparring?

Furgo pipes up. "If you must, I believe you should take it outsi..." His voice goes crackly, and he clears his throat again. "Dratted voice."

Ellyllden stops his song, and listens.

Dandelion perks up an eyebrow. "What? Now?"

Quinten shakes his head "If we are to do any recruit training we have to do it outside the abbey"

Dandelion nods his head toward the wall. "Come on help me find the dratted side gate, then... We could spar some before I have to report in..."

Quinten nods and heads out after Dande "Ok dande come on, let us try the north gate first" he heads off with his friend

"North gate it is..." Dandelion says, hefting the broomstick up on his shoulder before he walks off.

Quinten walks off with Dande and out of sight
