Papa Zorky, the enabler ;) or How does Oz handle them? (DAB Reboot Log)

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

RW Abbey: Kitchen

This is a long, narrow room with five large fireplaces set into one wall, and two equally large wood burning iron stoves set against the opposite wall. Several small, rectangular tables rest in here, but there are no chairs available. The rest of the wallspace is taken up by an entire array of shelves, cupboards, and counters which hold the day-to-day cooking supplies and utensils. The kitchen is clean and well maintained, and more recent efforts have been made toward organization of the cooking ware.

On the wall just right of the door leading into Great Hall is a neatly penned chart, which lists the names of beasts assigned to cooking duty as well as the dates and times they are scheduled. A small note above the chart urges residents to volunteer for at least a slot or two a week.

The light from the windows is bright and cheerful. This room is rather warm due to the ovens being used, and at times can get quite uncomfortable.

Zork the badger. Various spoofed DAB villains, mwahahaha! DoraRose the mouse.

Zork is bored, there is only so much he can do in his wheelchair. Yes he did help wash dishes and dried some, and he helped find a missing spoon, wow that was fun...not. He leans back in his chair and looks around, the last dish is dried so...well now boredom.

The Dibbuns are bored, too, which is never good. A small honking sound can be heard from the window where pies cool, and suddenly a little female gosling tumbles into the kitchen, upsetting an earthenware pot. It crashes to the ground and salt spills everywhere. More Dibbuns pour in, then squeaks can be hard as they catch sight of the Retired Blacksmith. Oh, no! They've been caught! They don't to have any idea of what to do now, so they just mill around by the window, staring at him.

Zork stares at the dibbun and folds his paws in his lap. He then decides to wheel oves to them, "Well ello thar young ones, wot ya doing in here? Does Ozzy know ya in here?" He glances around looking for Lillymoore, then again she isn't really a dibbun. He shrugs and offers them a smile.

The gosling gulps and honks as a female squirrel steps forward, acting as spokesperson. "Papa Ozzy norra know whar we awe! We sneaked away, and we gonna 'ave fun!" The rest of the Dibbuns squeak and nod, and a couple shout "DAB aways haf fun!"

Zork hmms and nods, "Well, I see and thar is no one but me in here." He gets a mischievous look in his eyes and quickly wheels backwards shutting the kitchen doorway and then wheeling back to look around the kitchen, "Yes fun is always good." He chuckles, he is seriously in the mood for fun and he hasn't had it in a while, he been all down and depressed, well not today! He even closes another door, so now the doors to the great hall and cavern hole are closed.

The Dibbuns watch him wheel around the kitchen, the looks on their faces ranging from bemused to confused. The gosling honks again as she honks, "Whattareya dooooin'? The other DAB members nods and echo the question, some even calling him Papa Zorky.

Zork chuckles, there is advantages of a wheelchair, you can move fast with very little energy, "Making sure no one interrupts fun"

Delighted gasps rise up from the clump of tiny beasts, and many of them start to clap their paws. "Can we 'elp???" The gosling asks, and a tiny mousemaid, barely able to talk, adds, "Wiw it wiwy be fun, Papa Zowky?"

Zork raises an eyebrow, papa Zork..ok this is funny, he chuckles and peeks into the cavern hole...good no one is there so he goes to get some blankets and pillows real quick and reshuts the door and drops the blankets and pillows, "Know how ta make a fort? Then maybe get those two peach pies and we have a little snack in out fort!"

The Dibbuns give tiny little cheers and scatter. Most of them start working on the fort. The older ones seem to know how to make a fort, but the rest of them are just helping (read: getting in the way). The gosling and her squirrel friend grab a pie between them, and a set of otter triplets grab the other one. It looks like DAB has found a grown-up that actually knows how to have fun.

Zork watches the dibbuns and grins as both doors are shut now and he can reach plates and forks easily, but there is the getting inside that fort, he leans back to think and then smiles as he scoots out of the chair and sits down. Something else he hasn't done in a while is crawl on his hands and knees and into the fort they made from the table with blankets and pillows

The DAB members have finished their fort, and now they crawl into it and goes to swarm all over the badger, giggling and chattering at their new Papa Zorky. The Dibbuns who went to get the pies come over and enter the fort, then the baby squirrel gets a distinctly naughty look on her face and exits. The gosling quickly follows, honking many questions at her friend.

Zork watches as a couple dibbuns leave and ruffles the headfur of a mouse dibbun who gigges and hugs him. He then cuts small slices of the pies and gets some for himself and takes a bite and smiles, "Good...pie..heeheee, very good pie indeed and not had this much fun in seasons."

The Dibbuns giggle and start eating their pie slices with their paws, which quickly turns into a big sticky mess. A shout can be heard from across the kitchen, and some baby otters and a male newt exit the fort. Scrapes and thumps can be heard, followed by naughty chuckles and the sounds of something being dragged across the floor. The a huge jar of candied nuts is shoved under the table, followed by the helpers. The squirrelmaid and the gosling pop under and go to sit on the badger's lap. Opening the jar, they giggle and the gosling honks, "Thissa lorra fun! Papa Zorky do this every day????"

Zork chuckles and blinks at the chestnut jar, "Now how did ya all get that, you should be careful..." He goes silent as a clank is heard, and followed by a moving pan, the badger blinks and takes it off to see a baby squirrel and chuckles, a little too hard and tenses up a couple seconds, but then he seems ok and smiles, ok deep laughing is bad but he can't help as that was funny.

A couple mice dibbuns have found mellow cream, "Pies needa...heeh hhhehe" The twin dibbun mice giggle.

The gosling honks with delight at the sight of mellowcream, and her squirrel friend goes over to see if there's more. The rest of the DAB-ers start munching eagerly on the candied nuts, giggling and yammering. Then the newt and a mouse get into and argument and start hitting each-other with pillows. The other Dibbuns buzz with excitement, and some begin to try and sneak the pillows out from under the table without the badger noticing.

Zork sneaks a candy chestnut and munches it and smiles, he does catch the couple leaving "Hey...stay under here, ya don't want found do ya? This de fort of...umm....well its a fort."

The ones sneaking pillows scowl and plop down on the floor. The newt and the mouse have been driven to blows, and the amphibian gets knocked onto his back, where he starts crying. very. loudly. The gosling knocks a container of meadowcream all over herself, and she starts honking in distress....with her head stuck inside the jar.

Zork frowns, ok this is getting out of paw, "Ok ok, no fighting now and...oh boy..." He goes to try and get the goose head out of the jar, gently if he can. He frowns how does Oz handle them?

The gosling is freed, and now she starts to wail because she is covered in meadowcream. On the bright side, the mouse is now hugging the newt and apologizing. The rest of the Dibbuns take this as a sign that a pillow fight is needed, and so they crawl out from under the table and start hitting each-other with pillows, shrieking with laughter, some tiny voices piping with "DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAB!!!"

Zork sighs as he watches and listens, he can't move as fast any more and this was sort of fun before. He eats one last bit of peach pie and shakes it off his paw, he then takes a smaller blanket and wipes the mellowcream off the goose, "Ya guys should be quiet, ya gonna draw attention to ya selfs"

The Dibbuns ignore him, and just get louder and louder. The gosling sniffs as she allows the grown-up to clean her, and then she honks, "Willyou tella story??" the closest DAB members hear her, drop their pillows and say, "Story??" The want for a story spreads through the group, until all of them are circled around him, eagerly clamoring for a tale.

Zork sighs with relief, well now they are quiet, "A story...wot kind of story would ya want?"

"'Tory!" "Story!" "Shtowy!!" The choruses keep coming, then change with his question, varying in words until they become a cacophony. "Mawtin!" "Battwe!" "Funny! "Martin!" "'Towy 'bout Papa Zowky!" "Papa Zorky stowy!" "Marting!"

Zork blinks as he blinks "Umm...lets see now, I did see Martin befores, was a while ago now. He's de one that said I should become a brother in de order, but I was afraid, but he said I would have friends to help me, and I did have friends to help me, lots of friends ta help me"

The gosling goes to climb up into his lap. "Like who??" The rest of the Dibbuns sit down, the front row so close to him, they might as well be sitting on him. The rest of the DAB members are as close to each-other as that. Their eyes are bright and eager and the goose's friend, the tiny squirrel, asks in awe, "YOU saw Marting?????"

Zork smiles and nods "Yeah, he...gave me a couple choices, to go this one place or stay at the abbey and become a brother in de order, course I choose ta stay here and now I be a brother and other abbey beasts helped me. I got ta help make de bell tower, rebuild de walls...made a lot of stuff, even a couple things, well with help, more recently."

"YOU rebuilt the bell tower????" The squirrelmaid is almost speechless with awe. The gosling asks, "Why you stay?" The other DAB-ers pipe up, echoing the question.

Zork smiles and nods "Cause all me friends...and family are here. And I don't ever plan on..." He stops there, and clears his throat, "Well I plan ta even help them as long as I am able ta"

The Dibbuns smile in return, and the gosling goes to hug him. "You da best Papa evah!" The squirrel maid hops up and says, "I say we make Papa Zorky Honowawy DAB member! All in favour, say 'yes'!" All the DAB members shouts, "YES!!!" The squirrel turns back to the Retired Blacksmith and declares, "You are now Honowawy DAB member! Butcha can't tell ANYBEAST!! Okay?"

Zork grins and nods "Sounds good ta me, hee heee...this has been fun taday, should done this sooner"

The Dibbuns clap and cheer, then they go to all of them climb on him and give what is probably the biggest group hug he's ever had. The gosling honks in alarm and waddles away, not wanting to get squished.

Zork grins as they all climb on top of him and he chuckles loudly and hugs them, he hasn't chuckled like this in a long while in fact. He then coughs a couple times and takes a deep breath, he smiles though as to not alarm the dibbuns to just a slight pain. He has done a little too much this afternoon and most likely got carried away, well he could always relax a couple days...in his room though.

The Dibbuns are happy about their new friend, and so they go to give him a hug and stroke his headstripes and paws. Some of the DAB-ers yawn, and one little mouse is asleep in a gigantic bowl. Looks like the Dibbuns Against Bedtime are about ready to go to bed. Perhaps even without a fight.

Zork smiles, he has got to relax and laying here on the pillows is a good plan, he watches the dibbuns and ruffles one's headfur slowly again, he coughs a little again trying to just relax and has even gone a little quiet.

Most of the Dibbuns fall asleep, but the gosling does not. She waddles back to the badger and goes to wriggle onto his lap under his arm. "Why Papa Zorky cough?" Ah, yes. Little children and their awkward questions. Awesome. *NOT.

Zork looks at all the sleeping dibbuns, and then the goose asks him what's wrong, " Just...little too much ex...excitement maybe, I be fine..." He pats the goose on the head. Well this will be a great sight won't it, dibbuns sleeping in a home made fort of blankets and pillows and a couple using the badger as a pillow, or curled up beside him sleeping, and a mole dibbun is snoring. And he is tired as well, the one slight pain he had left so he is feeling better but he wont be able to get back in his chair...oh great the chair is by the table...what ever, he don't care right now.

The gosling nods and settles down to go to sleep. The door from Cavern Hole opens, and DoraRose is suddenly standing there in the doorway. "Lily? Are you in here? ......what in the--?!" She stands there, mouth agape, blue eyes wide with shock.

Zork looks at the goose as it goes to sleep beside him and sighs, he coughs a couple times again and now frowns, he feels horrible right now but today was fun and he well over did it, he manages a small smile yeah today was fun, he chuckles and then frowns muttering "Ouch...ok chuckling bad" He says quietly to himself, he does hear Dorarose but can't get up well at all, he looks around...well there is the jar he could roll out from under the table, but there is the sleeping dibbuns, what about them?

DoraRose walks around the table, staring at the fort. The she spots the badger and DAB members. Gasping, she rushes over to her friend, scoots around the sleeping Dibbuns, and kneels beside him. "Are you alright? What happened?" she lifts the sleeping gosling carefully into her arms and snuggles her close until she goes back to sleep. "What.....did y'all /do/ in here??"

Zork looks at the mousemaid and coughs ," Hey...D...Dorarose...how are ya...l...lass?" He doesn't sound well at all, he gives a very weak smile, "Some...fun...and they..." He stops to take a deep breath and coughs roughly, "They fell asleep..."

DoraRose looks at him in alarm. "I'm going to get help!" She carries the gosling out into Cavern Hole, and after a few minutes returns, minus 1 baby goose and being followed by 10 Dibbun Caretakers, who gather up the DAB members and carry them away to their beds. The mouse Warrior goes to roll the wheelchair over to her friend's side, then kneels beside him again. "Do you think you can get into your chair? I can't help you very much, but I will try."

Zork watches as the dibbuns are carried off and he tries to get onto his side and then sit up and frowns as he shakes his head no, this is going to prove to be fairly hard, "No...I can hardly...rise up ta...get up lass"

DoraRose thinks quickly, then looks around. She rushes over and grabs a chair. Dragging it back, she weights it down with sacks of flour and oats. It groans in protest. When she feels that it has enough weight on it, she goes to help the badger into a kneeling position, saying, "Here, try to climb up the back of the chair."

Zork nods, he hates feeling this way. but he uses the chair to slowly and very shaky on his footpaws stand, he gulps as he almost falls, twice and closes his eyes, ok this next move he shouldn't do but it gets him up and into the chair, he uses what's left of his strength and into the chair be falls backwards and pants , and shivers some. he looks at Dorarose, "T...Thanks...lass you're...you a very good helpful...friend" He leans back in his chair and if one took his pulse its very fast right now, but he goes to try and relax, it will slow but its going to take a little while.

DoraRose does go to take his pulse (one of the few things she knows how to do), then goes to feel his forehead. "I try to be. Zork. I'm glad that you seemed to have fun. But I want you to be more careful. Please?"

Zork nods slowly, his pulse is still fairly fast and he grunts a little, he looks at Dorarose and mutters, "Maybe...maybe ya...best find Leon...." With that he passes out, he is still alive as the rising and falling of his chest shows that but it is a little slower than it should be, and the pulse still too fast right now. Passing out is never a good sign,. He will be ok...with serious rest that is.

DoraRose sighs, then runs as fast as she can in her dress to find her grandmother, who returns with her and goes to help her take good care of the badger. After Angela throws a fit, of course. When he is taken care of, the Warrior cleans up the kitchen, so Lacota and Benar will (hopefully) never know.
