RW Abbey: Open Ground

The Open Ground is a place for feasts, good times and just general social meetings. The wide-open space allows a large group of beasts to gather upon the plush grass and chat. But it also allows access to many places of the abbey, towards the walls of the abbey is the Bell Tower. Notable abbey defenders graves alongside the plot of land the massive structure takes up. A staircase shrouded by a case of stone allows one to make their way to the busy infirmary. The large brass lined doors to the lower dormitory are also evident from this position.

[It's summer! :D]

Greased Pole

Oz the badger. LilyMoore the mouse.

Oz was outside during the time of day when it was not as hot. The dibbuns playing in the open ground as he stays nearby. Sister Jenna is helping out with the dibbuns today it looks like.

LilyMoore comes from the direction of the orchards, a basket full of flowers on her arm. She looks wistful, but content, if that's possible. She comes over to the Badger Papa and says, "Hi! How are you today?" She waves at a couple of Dibbuns, smiling.

Oz smiles "I am doing well Lilymoore. Today is a good day so far. The feast few days ago was nice, it was nice to have it in a slightly different location than it usually is in."

LilyMoore nods. "I like the feasts. They seem like a party every time!" She grins, then frowns slightly and changes the subject. "If you knew that somebeast that's your friend was dying, and there was nothing anybeast could do, and you decided to spend time with them, but got bored just talking, but you knew your friend couldn't do a whole lot of activity, what would you do?"

Oz tilts his head at this question, a confused look on his face, "Umm...well maybe, I am sure could do something with them, find out what they can do. Picnics are nice or maybe a craft of some sort...tell stories or share memories?"

LilyMoore looks at the ground, then nods. "Yeah, I guess that would work. Thank you." She is smiling again. She has ideas of what she can do with Zork! Yay! But she does keep in mind that Oz doesn't know yet.... "I don't know very many stories, but I do like to make them up. Would that count?"

Oz chuckles "That would work, My Uncle Zee has a lot of stories, mainly of his life and a few of stories he has heard. He will sometimes tell a story to help one learn something or explain something sometimes."

LilyMoore smiles a little more broadly. "That sounds cool! I don't think I've ever met him. What's he like?" She sits down at the badger's feet and gazes up at him, still very much like a Dibbun in many ways.

Oz smiles "Well he is older than both me and Zork, he lives in Ferravale now. But he seems to get by there, and he may be old but wouldn't be wise to try and attack him he has his staff and will bang it over beasts head. He has done it to family before too"

LilyMoore giggles. "Sounds like Nana. She's grumpy. OH! Is he the badger that arrived at the feast and told stories? I saw him, but i didn't go over and listen."

Oz says, "yes, can't say all the stories were good. But lest he told ok stories and think he told one of getting a long with a brother or sister...or least he told that one one time"

LilyMoore shrugs as she nods. "I didn't hear it but it sounds interesting." she wrinkles her brow for a few minutes, then asks, "Do you have any stories?" She starts making a crown with the flowers in her basket.

Oz starts to answer when Sister Jenn speaks to him softly and he nods letting her take the dibbuns in for snack time. He then replies "I have my own stories, as do all beasts. What would you like to know?"

LilyMoore thinks for a couple of seconds, weaving her crown into a necklace. "Why are you a Dibbun caretaker? Blisa said that you used to be able to defend yourself really well, so why aren't you a warrior?" Okay, so that's technically 2 things. Whatever.

Oz sits down before answering "Well I was not the dibbun caretaker for a season or little over that after I arrived at the abbey. The dibbuns started to follow me around, which at first annoyed me and I told them to go away. Of course they didn't and I tried to hide didn't work, but I also was slowly starting to enjoy their company and care about them" He smiles "Then Lorimis asked me to be the caretaker and the dibbuns loved the idea, as did I. You see I was a hermit and live in a hut in the far northern woods, just me and an adopted son I was very over protective of"

Oz says, "As for not being a warrior, Zork was always more into that. I do know how to use the staff"

LilyMoore listens politely and eagerly, although it doesn't look like it because she's busy seeing how long she can make her flower chain. After a few moments, she politely asks, "Why did you live in a hut with only your adopted son? That sounds lonely."

Oz frowns now "I didn't want others around me, I was alone about 5 seasons at first before had any contact with family I had left. Something...really bad happen in my life this one winter and so I closed my self off and hid in a way, my adopted son, Maxtor...he was a mouse I saved a half season after..." He stops and sighs, he goes on " Anyways me and Maxtor lived there till one day Uncle Zee came to tell me my Uncle Soot died."

LilyMoore stops weaving her flower chain and stares at the badger's face, her own filled with sorrow and compassion for him, as he glosses over the very sad thing. "I'm sorry the bad thing happened. Why was he called Soot? Was he all black? I'm sorry that he died." She goes to rest a (hopefully) comforting paw on his arm.

Oz hmmms "It may of been 'cause part way maybe and also he was the son of a forge beast and took over...he had the forge up in Send till he died. He died in his sleep one day. I was not there I was...well south, but I did come back to Send for a bout a week. I remember walking into town and getting stared at, heck I was gone little over 5 seasons and then I heard someone but instead of a hug I got a slap across the face. It...well at the time, seemed someone hated me for being away so long with out a word or anything"

LilyMoore nods as she listens. "That's sad. Did they really hate you?" she says as she goes back to weaving her flower chain.

Oz shakes his head "No, they were angry with me but I thought they hated me. It was still a while before I came to the abbey. I left Maxtor with Zee to visit the graveyard there..." He sighs "Something else I should of done all those 5 seasons, but I didn't it was painful to visit their graves."

LilyMoore nods slowly. "Did you ever visit their graves? And who were 'they'? I'm sure they wouldn't want to beating yourself up about not visiting their resting place."

Oz takes a deep breath, "My mate and child. Its why I didn't want to return to Send...too much pain and memories, but I also didn't know I needed to have my family and friends with me at the time. Yes, I still was hermit like somewhat afterwards maybe 3-4 seasons and found my self here, but not not choice at the time to come here. Anyways I was by their graves crying, and visited Uncle Soot's grave when someone suddenly hugged me and I turned to see Zork...He was the one who slapped me. We forgave one another and I promised to keep in contact with him"

Oz says, "I did...mostly, still had my little hut with Maxtor, but I wrote letters after that a couple times a season and only worried him one other time, and that's when came to Redwall...'cause Maxtor had came here, without telling me. Maxtor sort of...put sleeping herbs in my tea and run away. I followed Maxtor all the way to the abbey with full plans to head right back North but...well didn't head back North"

LilyMoore goes to hug the badger when he tells her of his wife and Dibbun dying. "I'm so sorry! That's so horrible!" She then listens respectfully to him as he tells more of his story. "I'm glad that you and Zork forgave one-another and now are fast friends here. But why did Maxtor run away? You're so nice, why would he want to leave you?"

Oz says, "Maxtor wanted adventure and I was over protective, I feared losing him maybe...I gave him a 3 hour lecture I think on how he shouldn't of done what he done. Like said ended up living here and I am glad. Maxtor became a sort of wanderer and I was ok with it, he could defend himself well. I saw him off and on."

Oz says, "I am glad Zork found me here and decided to live here, he was always there when I needed him"

LilyMoore hesitates. She knows that Zork is her friend that is dying, but she doesn't think she should tell Oz that. "He's amazing. He is so kind." She goes to drape the flower chain over the badger's head. "Here. You can have this. i think you need it."

Oz smiles and can tell it's a flower chain, he leans forward to hug Lilymoore "Thank you and yes he is very kind and gets along with most here. Maybe you can cheer him up one day as he has seemed a bit down last couple days. I am sure he will be fine" He slowly stands as he gets ready to head inside soon "May be dinner soon..." As if on cue the bell sounds off and the badger chuckles.

LilyMoore stifles her wanting to let them badger know that his brother is dying. Why are secrets so hard to keep? And why are some of the things that should be kept secret the things that most need to be shared? She nods as she accepts and goes to return his hug. "I hope so. Oooh! I didn't realize how hungry I am! C'mon! let's go eat!" and she runs inside the Abbey building before her secret can burst out.
