Salamandastron: Dining Chamber

  • -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

This is the dining chamber for the mountain of Salamandastron. It is a

veritable cavern, the necessity of feeding so many hares making the room

so big. Dominating the room is a huge banquet table made of solid oak.

Nobeast knows how such a venerable object came to be here, but its

presence is undeniable. Smaller tables skirt the outside of the room,

each sitting near a large torch burning brightly in its sconce. The chair

at the head of the table is different from the plain maple chairs that

occupy the rest of the room - it belongs to the Badger Lord. The massive

object is graced with a carving of the very mountain it is in, with the

sun setting over the sea.

Windrose arrives at the dining hall and starts to head inside, but first gives a quick look to see whom is here.

Flare is at a small table eating some late lunch. Some soup and bread, salad and a few pasties.

Windrose walks in and smiles as she sees Flare and walks over "Did you escape the infirm Flare, or did they give you the ok to leave?"

Flare grins, "Hallo thar Windrose, I got the ok to leave as long as I take it easy. I also decided to not have a longbow as my main weapon of choice, I use to use a short sword and got a little out of practice and saber is sort of close to it, so gonna train some with it and use it. That and not as good with a longbow as thought was, I just got lucky one day."

Windrose nods "Well a saber is a good weapon; I can use a dirk when it's needed. As a runner needs to fight sometimes as well, just not as often."

Flare smiles, "Well tis always good to know how to use least one weapon. Me friend Zee can use a longsword and a raspier as well. He can do paw to paw when its blooming needed."

Windrose says, "You mentioned Zee before, sounds like a good beast to meet one day."

Flare grins "And ya may just get that wish, I send him a letter to let him know his niece got here ok and safe, I didn’t mention some of the troubles lately, but maybe that will clear some before he blooming well gets here." He nibbles some salad and takes a bit of bread. “And he will have that Thunderwing, the eagle , with him."

Windrose tilts her head, "He knows that eagle, well that is a good thing to be friends to and most likely a good way to have extra protection on the way here as well."

Flare says, "I wouldn’t worry too much on Zee, the old do not judge a book by its cover clearly goes to him, he looks old and helpless...well he is old yes but far from helpless."

Windrose nods as she sits down, she gets some soup and a few grapes, and a drink right before she sits down and eats some of her meal before talking," Well, sounds like it should be most interesting indeed"

Flare eats a couple scones before answering "Yep, he is a good friend, meet him in de northlands and traveled with him to Mossflower, he stayed up there and I came here to join the jolly Long Patrol"

--Little Later--

Flint looks inside the room before he enters it, and once he enters and gets his lunch he makes his way to a table with no one else there.

Windrose watches the other hare from the doorway to the kitchens, she had decided to help with washing dishes and help make sure late comers to lunch got something as she walks over "You’re a bit late today for lunch. why is that?"

Flint shrugs, "Not much ta really do lass. I let the training room early and went somewhere to think. I think I tried to go out to soon and maybe shouldn't of went out at blooming all"

Windrose sits down, "Well you did help with that rescue, I mean you injured the wildcat and it was later able to be defeated. You also may of prevented him from escaping or getting further down the beach."

Flint sighs and his arms cross over his chest, "Yeah...I ment ta hit the cat in the chest, not the blooming shoulder blade. And if the others had come a few seconds later I would of been found dead, I couldn’t even pull off firing another arrow cause balos barely missed me, and scraped against my side making it feel like it was on fire."

Windrose listens and waits till he is down speaking to talk, "No one is perfect at things and you were injured, no one expected you to be able to fire off any other arrows."

Flint sighs "Ya don't understand lass, I use to be a good aim, if it was 2-3 seasons earlier I would of gotten the foul cat in the heart and not needed helped myself, wot if I had hit the badger maid, wot then?"

Windrose answers, "But you didn't, you hit the wildcat and in doing so you probably prevented a possible death. And what if you hit him in the shoulder blade, that’s still a vital spot and can indeed mess one's fighting up and from wot I heard it did."

Flint frowns, "I..suppose but that’s not the point. The point is I missed my aim, I never use to miss before..ever!"

Windrose says, "You were also missing in action for over 3 seasons, you can't expect to be as good as you were before. But I am sure with practice your be good as new and just as good as you were before with the longbow."

Flint frowns, "Ya had to remind me, didn't you? That wasn't my fault, I tried to escape from those toads and failed twice."

Windrose shakes her head "I didn't mean to remind you, I was just saying you can't expect to just be right where you were skill wise if you were missing over 3 seasons"

Flint stands and slams his fist into the table, he takes a couple deep breaths, “Well maybe it's the blooming Patrol's fault for not trying harder to find me, I wasn't even that far away!" Great now he is angry, yet he has tears going down his cheeks.

Windrose frowns at this and is unsure how to answer at first, this is not a strong point of her's, "I am sure they tried their best Flint, they looked and it was assumed you were dead, I mean...finding your weapons and bits of uniform, the fact the area was full of quicksand."

Flint shakes his head and just walks away, but he calls over his shoulder, “No excuse...I wouldn't of given up unless I found prove of a death, like a blooming body maybe!" He then heads on out into the hallway, lunch is forgotten.

Windrose frowns more as she watches him head off and sighs, she may as well get back to dish washing as today is going to be one of those long days.
