Not The Best Afternoon

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

FV:Tavern(#225437R)

Outside a sign swings on a rusty creaking frame above the doorway of the tavern depicting a faded painting of what appears to be three rather rich looking skeletons slumped over a table around a black chalice, perhaps such a thing could be taken as a warning but it doesn't appear to work on the locals. The noise within on a normal day is usually heard before the door is even opened and only rises in volume when one actually steps inside.

There are the typical qualities of a tavern within, from the bar to the chairs and booths and the odd drunk who never seems to move it's the little details which encourage a patron to pay his tab if he likes his fingers. One look at some of the staff or customers might give the impression but the room is decorated to the fiercer tastes with bones, mostly skulls cropping up here and there to fill a gap on a shelf or decorating the walls above the doorways, fireplace and bar, a pair of axes joining the one over the fire with some signs that they've been yanked off to join in a fight a couple of times. Some of the comfier chairs are lined with fur and very rarely one might be found with a few pointed bits of bone to decorate the back. Despite the looks there is entertainment and fun to be had, some form of music usually played on a small stage in the corner and at least one bouncer usually tries to keep the peace while beasts gamble, drink and be merry.

A small door behind the bar leads out the back to the kitchen and cellars while one wall has been opened up in a wide arch to increase the space off into the next room where what seems to be a wooden fence with gates on either end has been set up as a fighting pit as further entertainment and something to bet over.

Exits: [Out]

Scioto is sitting is his normal spot, like he always does and has a ale that is 1/2 full in front of him.

Blisa was outside, because she thought she had seen an eagle, but it has turned out to be a false alarm. Crawling up into a chair, she turns to her father and asks, "How can birds fly?" she picks her pencil back up and works on her drawing.

Scioto blinks and looks to see Blisa, he answers, "Feathers I suppose and special muscles, only birds fly, and bats.

"But bats don't have feathers. They're all fluffy, like you and me." Blisa points out, not looking up from her picture.

Scioto shrugs, "I have no idea, but see one before and they fly, they are also annoying or least this one was, think she forgot to breath sometimes so she could talk more"

Blisa giggled and scooted a little closer to her father. "Why did she talk so much?"

Scioto starts to smile at the giggle but stops midway and clears his throat, "I do not know, she flew off one day and has yet to return, if she does return"

Blisa has finished drawing and now moves on to coloring. "What'll you do if she comes back?"

Scioto says, "I do not know, if she causes trouble then maybe ask her to leave, she caused it once""

Blisa doesn't look up. "What did she do?"

Scioto looks to see what Blisa is drawing, "She let someone out of a cell by picking the lock"

Blisa is coloring a picture of Flicktail, and it's remarkably good. "Who did she let out?"

Scioto studies the picture, "That’s a good picture, and she let out that Brutus beast I believe it was"

Blisa frowns, finally looking up at her father. "Why would she do something like that?"

Scioto answers, "I do not know dear, a lot of things cannot be explained"

Blisa nods. That seems to make sense to her. "Do you like my drawing, Daddy? Is it really that good?"

Scioto nods "It is very good Blisa, looks just like.. "He listens as a guard whispers in his ear and frowns, "I will handle it." He stands and looks at Blisa and nods "I will be right back honey."

--along the path to Ferravale--

Mudfur is standing on the path, the tip of his tail is badly messed up and this has made him rather peeved, he stays on the path, for now no swords drawn.

Scioto walks slowly up the path, this is not what he wanted to deal with, he stops a few paces from the other cat, "You don't give up do you?"

Mudfur smirks. "No, I get what I want, my question is this how many times does it take to finally kill you, they do say 3nd time the charm" He grins.

Scioto glares at Mudfur, “Leave, you’re looking for Astra, she is not coming out here."

Mudfur ends up walking away.

Scioto stays on the path, none too happy.

Blisa has given the guards the slip -- again. Slinking along, she peers out from behind a tree. Just then, the klutzy ferret guard, backed by about 6 or 7 others, coms dashing along the path. "Thcioto, thir!" poor guy...he has a lisp. "Blitha left through a hole in the wall. I would've caught her, but the threw a snowball at my fathe. Have you theen her?"

Scioto raises an eyebrow at the guard, he frowns understanding bits of it.

"Thpread out! And hurry!" The other guards do as the ferret says, and he turns to the Chieftain, repeating himself. "Have you theen her? The could be in great danger, thir." Meanwhile, the kitten in question stays behind the tree, reconsidering her choices.

Scioto is now worried and glares at the guards, "No, she was to stay in the tavern, why was she not watched!"

The ferret raises himself up indignantly. "I wath watching her, thir! The thaid the wanted to go outside. When I told her no, the thlipped through my armth and ran out the door. I chathed her, but the ith thurprisingly fatht. The wath out a hole in the wall jutht ath I got to her. I gathered the the guardth and we are now looking for her. Have you theen her?"

Scioto growls low, "No, I have not seen her" His ears go down, "Alright holes get fixed and now, and you find her..NOW. That Mudfur is close by"

The ferret gulps, his eyes wide. "Yeth thir! COME ON, MOVE IT!!" he yells at the other guards, who promptly begin scurrying like so many ants. Blisa huddles behind the tree, looking at her choices, which are very few.

Scioto looks around as well, looking very worried as he looks around the path staying very alert as he does so.

( As the guards spread out, Blisa comes to the best decision she can: she comes dashing out from behind the tree and clings to Scioto's legs. Her ferret guard looks shocked, then furious. Calling the other guards over to him, he makes his way over to the Chieftain and his daughter. )

Scioto gasps and hugs Blisa tight, a couple tears going down his face, "Blisa you scared me, I..I thought I lost you"

The guards surround the pair as the ferret's eyelid begins to twitch. Blisa squeezes Scioto's legs. "I'm sorry...but you left without me, and if I'm with you, how will I know if you're safe or not?"

Scioto nods "I said I be back, Mudfur was at the gate but he left, have a feeling he will return, didn’t want you hurt"

The ferret guard glances around, then murmurs, "We should probably get back, Thir." The kitten sets her jaw. "I'll follow you if you hunt for him, Daddy. Don't doubt that I will." The guards all groan softly -- they /really/ don't want to have to chase her again.

Scioto says, "I am not going to hunt him, someone else can"

Blisa nods, much to the relief of the guards. Taking hold of Scioto's arm, the ferret, who kinda seems to be in charge, says again, "We really thould go back, thir. We don't know if Mudfur ith watching uth."

Scioto nods, "Yes he did make a threat, let’s go inside." He picks up Blisa ad keeps her close as they walk back to the village.

Blisa holds Scioto's paw as the guards flank them, keeping a look out for enemies.
