RW Abbey: Great Hall

The Great Hall of Redwall Abbey. Countless paw falls have echoed from these stones, and untold numbers of feasts and merry gatherings have been held here. A table, not nearly so grand or large as its predecessors, but quite functional for mealtimes, rests near the center of the hall. Chairs exist here aplenty, and they are all of a matching set. High above, the stain glass windows give the Great Hall a beautiful appearance. The glasswork is exceptionally done, crafted by a skilled artist. The floor is clean and swept. A fire is kept burning in the fireplace at almost all times of the day and night, and there are several more comfortable chairs and cushions set up here, of varying sizes. One looks large enough to easily accommodate a badger.

The Tapestry hangs proud and tall, and while the rest of Redwall may still bear the scars of natural disaster, this most famous of Redwall's relics remains unharmed by beast, time, or the elements. The figure of Martin the Warrior seems to be watching over his own with an unchanging, kindly gaze.

Red, blue, orange, green...vibrant patterns of color are painted on the floorstones of Great Hall by the high afternoon sun that is streaming through the stained glass windows.

a message (board) with notes tacked to it

Eos is in the great hall reading a book on the history of redwall, which he borrowed from the library, a plate of food beside him as he eats a late lunch

Lucas appears from the stairs, in the middle of a quiet conversation with Lorimis. The brother chuckles quietly, getting out of the way of the steps before he gives the room a once over and spots the rat "Ah! Eos!" he glances back to the abbot "You remember I mentioned him?" he looks back to the rat and beckons him over "Eos, this is Abbot Lorimis, come and make a good impression"

Eos nods a little and gets up smiling and moves over, the rat offers the mouse a paw "its a pleasure to meet you father." he says politely "my name is eos."

Lorimis just steps off the stairs and then there's apparently beasts he's got to meet. He blinks but soon spots Eos too, offering a smile "Hello there" he moves to shake the paw "You were the one looking to join the Order, correct?" a small glance going to Lucas to catch the brother's nod, be sure he's got the right beast.

Eos nods "yes sir i am." he says smiling back as he lets the paw drop after a few shakes

Lorimis smiles more brightly, tucking his paws just neatly into the sleeves of his habit after the shakes "Well excellent! It brings great joy to see new members joining our little family. I'd be happy to allow you into the Order as Novice Eos"

Eos smile brightens "really, thank you father." he says happily as if his dream was coming true, which it kind of is

Benar has arrived.

Crookednose has arrived.

Crookednose sleepily stumbles in, tripping over his footpaw.

Lorimis chuckles lightly "Save your thanks until after your first day of chores. Lucas can give you all the details and find you a habit to fit I'm sure"

Crookednose says, "I come from afar. Ive been travelling for countless seasons!"

Eos nods a little "ok father." he says with a smile turning to lucas so he can hear the details

Crookednose gets up, dusting himself off.

Lucas is standing by the other mouse and rat quietly but his ear does flick to the door and he spots the ferret "Well, I should say your first job will probably be some food or something for this fellow. If he fancies it?"

Benar wanders in, the squirrel's tail trailing after him. He looks a bit dishevelled, fur ruffled, his habit hanging off his body gauntly. He pauses at the sight of other beasts and bows moving over. "Good day Father Abbot.... er good friends."

Crookednose exclaims, "Oooo, yes please!"

Eos nods "ok." he says as he hurries off into the kitchen taking a few minutes as he gets some food, sitting it on a tray and walking back out, moving carefully to the table, he sits down the spread which also includes some mint tea "there you go." he says politely to the ferret

Lorimis smiles and nods his head to Benar, his paws still tucked into his sleeves comfortably "Good day Novice Benar. What's the weather like out there?"

Crookednose sits down. " Thankee!" exclaims Crookednose.

Benar says, "Cold Father Abbot." The squirrel says shivering, pulling his robe around himself, he looks thin, and it hangs off his form. "Cold except in the forge it is quite warm there of course. No rain at the moment either Father.""

Crookednose eats his food, oblivious to all conversation.

Lucas waves to Benar before pointing to Eos "New Novice" he glances back to Crookednose and smirks faintly. Well he seems fine for now.

Eos nods to the ferret "your welcome." he says before moving over to clean up his empty plate and take it to the kitchen, before walking over to where the abbot, lucas and benar "hello there." he says to benar

Crookednose asks, "would you be kind enough to direct me to the mountain fortress of Salamandastron?"

Benar bows, "Ah welcome Brother, welcome to Redwall Abbey, I hope you are can settle in. I am Benar, Novice of Redwall."

Eos smiles "thanks you, and im eos, the new novice or redwall." he says smiling bowing back "its a pleasure to meet you."

Crookednose exclaims, "Nice to meet you!"

Lorimis nods at Benar's description "Well that is something at least. Ever thankful for the fires here" he glances to the ferret "Well you're a very long way off from the mountain here"

Crookednose says, "I need to see the Badger Lord to sell him my forging machine."

Benar settles into a chair and nods, "There is no Badger Lord, Colnel Francis rules the mountain until a new badger lord is called to the mountain."

Crookednose says "T..ooo..morrow..." as he collapses into the chair, fast asleep.

Lucas raises a brow at the ferret "Strange chap...well I suppose we'll let him rest there"

Eos smiles and goes back to his place where his book is, picking up where he left off wanting to finish the page he was one before marking it and closing the book

Benar looks up, nods, "Has... has there been any word... Father Abbot... on Gwennythe?

Crookednose wakes with a start. "What's this?" he wonders. He pulls a sandal from below his bottom.

Lorimis shakes his head faintly in bemusement before looking around again "Well. I suppos-" he pauses midsentance at Benar's question and sighs faintly "No, I'm sorry but I haven't heard anything...Nor have I heard anything bad on the subject though. There is always hope, even if it has been some time"

Lucas smirks at Crookednose again "It's a sandal, you put them on your feet...I'm not sure what one was doing on the chairs"

Crookednose pulls out a list, murmuring to himself.

Eos has disconnected.

Crookednose asks, "How do I get to Salamandastron again? I must have an old letter from the badger."

Benar nods his head and sighs, resting his head on the side of the armchair he is sat in. He shivers and draws his feet up, "So cold... Father... it has been so long... it..." he sighs and stares into the fire. "West.. head west to the shore."

Crookednose asks, "West? Ok."

Lucas leaves the mouse and squirrel to wander towards the ferret "Well, it's a journey of several weeks. We have a few maps here you could look at. I imagine the easiest route is to follow the road north, follow the river down to the sea and then go south till you see the mountain...you, erm, may not get a friendly response there"

Crookednose says, "They might have forgotten about our buisness."

Crookednose exclaims, "Thanks! Wish me luck."

Lorimis walks over to stand beside Benar's chair, going to place a paw on the squirrel's shoulder "While we may fear for the worse we still hope for the best...I understand there are beasts out looking for her now. With luck Martin will guide them all home again soon"

Lucas finds his brow raises again "Well good luck but as Benar has said there currently is no Badger Lord. There hasn't been for some time...are you sure your letter is genuine?"

Crookednose says, "Maybe old, but pretty shure."

Benar looks up at the Abbot and nods his head, "Thank you father, I shall try not to give into despair. I've been working hard, doing my duties and trying my best to live up to wha tit means to be a novice of Redwall."

Crookednose has left.

Lorimis smiles softly and pats at the squirrel's shoulder "Keeping busy. That's the key. How is your work going?"

Benar leans into the patting, the squirrel shivers again, hugging his robe close despite being near the fire. "Well.. alot of time in the kiln. Doing pottery. I have been showing the dibbuns how to make things with clay once a week. And I've been keeping the great hall clean.

Lorimis continues to smile, listening and nodding at some points. He's noticed that squirrel is thinner, it just seems a touchy subject, he hasn't worked out how to approach it yet "Ahh, dibbuns. I imagine that was messy. Though cleaning the hall is an endless task in itself!...How are you doing then?"

Benar smiles, "Layne is making sure I eat... its just.. hard to care you know? With Gwen missing i seem to spend all my spare time worrying. I am... trying to shake it off its just hard."

Lorimis looks a little sad but nods again slowly "I want you to eat Benar. She won't be happy if she comes back and you've wasted away...Perhaps you should work in the kitchens for a while? It's even busier there, little chance to stop and think too much" and all the food you can eat.

Benar jumps at that suggestion, going wide eyed. "Oh no Father Abbot, i'd burn the building down. I.. i will eat I promise... just don't assign me to Beverly's staff! She'd have me rolling through doors inside a week."

Lorimis looks faintly surprised but it is Beverly they're talking about "Erm. Well, so long as you are eating...and you must eat or I really will place you on kitchen duty and I will tell Beverly to give you special attention"

Benar groans and his ears twitch back, "Yes Father, I will eat.. I promise... I want to make brother yet."

Lorimis smiles once more and aims a last shoulder pat before he straightens up "Some respect for the Sister, Benar. She works hard"

Benar ahems and blushes, "I know Father, she is a great cook and a wonderful sister just... she has a rather forceful personality and I'm... rather timid at heart."

Lorimis just continues to smile "Yes, I know what you mean. She can be very forward, still, sometimes it's good to see such a joyous beast. Can't fault her cooking either...Anyway. I believe I have some work I should be getting back to"

Benar says, "Oh of course father" he bows, "Please do not let me detain you further, take care now.""

Lorimis bows just his head in return to Benar "Same to you Novice. Take care of yourself, eat, hope and work" a quick nod goes to the silent Brother too "Brother Lucas" and finally the abbot wanders off back towards the stairs.

Benar smiles and nods, he does look a bit happier now at least, holding his hands out to the fire and warming them. "I will make Brother yet... I promise..." he murmurs to himself, loud enough to carry though.
