Lacota Has a Much Needed Talk with his Daughter

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

Lacota, Cynthia, Thorn

Kitchen Yard

Thorn is working on pottery, at the looks of it making a vase maybe or a picher for drinks, she works carefully and is very skilled with what she does.

Cynthia has been in the tool shed most of the day and the slightly dirty robe shows it as she steps out, well least she keep her bandages clean as she watches Thorn work on the pitcher.

Thorn works the wheel and moves her paws to create the pitcher, making it take a better shape she smiles as she makes the top a little more narrow and makes sure its even and smooth al around, and even starts to add simple wine design around the top.

Cynthia sits on a nearby bench, her stomach sort of growls as she missed breakfast as well as lunch, she frowns and kicks some lose stones.

Thorn finishes the design and peers around the pitcher to look at the mousemaid, "Umm..hi" She stands and goes over to the kiln as she carefully places the pitcher inside after making sure its ready and sits back down"A pitcher for water, maybe juice....for what ever the kitchens uses it fer"

Cynthia nods "That's intresting....I don't work with pottery..sorry was sort of in th tool shed, guess no one needed in there yet today"

Thorn rasies an eyebrow "And why were ya in the tool shed, I mean it's not my concern and your stomach growled, you miss lunch or something?"

Cynthia frowns "Ummm...yeah guess, and breakfast but I am fine...really I am fine"

Lacota meanders his way into the kitchen yard from the abbey, carrying an empty basket. "Good afternoon, Thorn," he says, as he passes, and spares a brief glance toward his daughter. "Cynthia. We all missed you at breakfast this morning..."

Thorn glances up at Lacota and waves, she looks back to Cynthia"Aren't you hungry if you missed lunch and breakfast?"

Cynthia repeats "I'm fine, wasn't hungry" She frowns and still has small bandages on her paws and most likely will for a few days.

Lacota sighs softly, and sets his basket on the ground. "Cynthia, you need to eat, at some point... But I won't push it." He steps closer. "May I... May I see your paws." His voice is filled with fatherly concern. "Listen, lass, I'm sorry about yesterday..." There's more he wants to say, but he knows not to push it too far.

Thorn looks between tem "Should..I leave? I have to wait on the pitcher to...well be ready for painting anyways"

Cynthia frowns, "Why? T are bandaged, a vole or something healer was on duty." She sighs as they burn slightly still.

Lacota shakes his head. "No, Thorn, you're fine. It's... It's fine." He looks down at Cynthia. "I just..." he sighs, "I'm your father, Cynthia, even if I've been... Distant... Since..." He trails off. "Look, I'm trying, alright? I'm glad your paws are getting better, though."

Thorn nods "Alright I will just..get some more clay" She stands and heads over to where the clay is kept and gets some quietly.

Cynthia frowns "They...just hurt, but then..I mean they would" She probally should of not had a quick chat with a novice healer, but she was in a hurry and they seemed to hurt less yesterday, one bandage is slightly bloodstained as its the palm of her hands, so maybe she moved it little too much.

"Oh, child, you're bleeding!" Lacota reaches to gently grasp the paw with a bloodied bandage. "Cynthia, this needs to be redressed. Did the novice put any salve on your palms? To prevent infection?"

Thorn ears go back, oh great there is blood now, yeah she is gonna back way now, yet another reason she is not planning on being a novice, they do need to learn first aid "Umm....I will go find father or...someone..." And she is off.

Cynthia frowns "Said I just needed some bandages and started to put them on myself and then they helped a little" If one looks at the skin under the bandage its swollen some and sort of burn like.

Lacota shakes his head again, and sighs. "He should have applied salve. The last thing you need is an infection." He starts to untie the bloodied bandage. "Come on, this needs to be washed and bandaged up properly... I'll do it."

Cynthia frowns "Well....but..." She sighs, she knows he can, all the order beasts know basic first aid and some know more, she lets him undo the bandage and tenses up. There is no infection but a little of the bandage sticks to her slightly as she mutters an ouch.

Lacota works carefully, and digs around in the small pouch on his belt. "Always keeps some bandages with me... One never knows when a beast might have an accident in the kitchen..." He grabs a pitcher of water left out for the smith, and pours some water over Cynthia's paws. "I'm only going to bandage them back up for now... But I want you to promise that you'll go to the Infirmary later and ask Angela or Leon to put salve on your palms, alright?"

Cynthia tenses as the water stings a little, she nods slowly. At least the water does clean it better as she got some dirt in it ealier, she frowns and stays quiet as he cleans and rebandages her paws.

Lacota applies a new clean bandage to each paw, and ties them off, not painfully tight. "How's that feel?" He starts to hug her, if allowed. "I'm sorry, about yesterday. Do you... Feel up to talking?"

Cynthia at first starts to scoot away and then allows the hug and frowns, she is quiet till she finally speaks "Its...my paws are fine, thanks." She sighs as she can climb just yesterday she was not paying attention.

Lacota rests a paw on Cynthia's shoulder. "It's... Not your paws I'm worried about." He is quiet for a few minutes. "We shouldn't shut each other out." He doesn't really know how to proceed. He's afraid of scaring her off.

Cynthia frowns "Oh...well, you been busy and I am suppose to do novice stuff now, yesterday was just...a bad day" Her paws do feel better now.

Lacota shakes his head. "I know, I know... but we're... We're family, Cynthia." He sighs, and just comes out with it. "We both loved her, child. She was the heart of our family... And you are right... She's gone..." He still won't say dead, "And she won't be back..."

Cynthia frowns as some tears come now and she goes to hug him, but is still talking very little just yet.

Lacota hugs his daughter, and offers his handkerchief. "I'm sorry... Truly, deeply sorry, that I wasn't there for you during that time." He sighs. "But I love you, my daughter. And I'm here for you." He smiles sadly.

Cynthia is listening to him and then just starts crying, she sort of just lets it out more so than she really has as she has cried a little but forced herself to stop, and she has avoided everyone since she woke up yesterday.

Lacota holds Cynthia as she sobs, and rubs her shoulder. "Yes... Let it out." He sighs. "We've both avoided it too long." He squeezes her gently. "Listen now, would Krystal want us acting like we've been acting?"

Cynthia frowns, "No" She says quietly, "She wouldn't and she wouldn't of wanted me to run away when I did..I..I am sorry I did that, and that..even when came back didn't talk much."

Lacota nods his head. "It's ok. You came back. That's all that matters." He looks up at the sky. "And I have decided, since yesterday, that if you'd really like to work with the bees... I'm onboard. We can talk to Benar about it together, if you want."

Cynthia smiles and nods"I..want to help, I know I can. I think they like my singing and we are getting low on honey and I now to leave some for the bees"

Lacota hmmms, nodding. "Everybeast likes your singing. Why... You could charm birds right out of the sky with that voice of yours."

Cynthia chuckles, she sounds happier now, for the morment, "Maybe....I don't know"She then frowns as her stomach growls and she looks down, muttering "Sorry Father."

Lacota perks an ear. "Goodness, I almost forgot. Come on, you must be starved. I shall march you to the kitchen, and shan't let you escape until I'm satisfied you're well fed." He smiles, his mood considerably improved as well. "Imagine, what folks will say if the abbey Friar let his daughter starve!"

Cynthia says, "Well been my fault guess...oh" She frowns a little "I sort of..grumbled at Caleb ealier and he was concern and I just walked away from him"

Lacota waves a paw. "Listen... When you get the chance, you just go up to him again, and he'll be happy to see you. I guarantee it. What's a little grumbling between fiends, hmm?"

Cynthia shrugs"I should...most likely leave him be, he pays more attention than I do on lessons and all, and I had passed a couple tests , but then most lkely messed that up yesterday"

Lacota picks up his basket again, and nods. "Up to you, of course." He hums a little, then adds, "I believe he was looking for you earlier, though..."

Cynthia nods as she gos to follow him to the kitchens, her stomach growls again and she frowns, but nods "Well maybe I will see Caleb later then"

Lacota smiles to himself. "I think that's reasonable." He strolls across the yard, at a leisurely pace. "Have you been earning your Novice charms, by the way?"

Cynthia follows "Ummm yeah a couple. I was talking to Papa Oz in the orchads before...well" SHe is quiet and then talks again" I recited the charter and its meaning, didnt know it was a test at first, but it was and I passed them....less of course it was revoked after the little...tree thing"

Lacota looks over at Cynthia. "I'm sure it wasn't. That was... I'll be honest, it was partly my fault." He comes to the kitchen door and pulls it open, allowing his daughter to enter first. "I'm sure they'll understand."

Cynthia nods "I..hope so" She enters slowly and looks around the kitchens,"I am also sorry for missing meals, I just lost track of time"

Lacota nods, stepping in and letting the door shut. "It is okay, Cynthia. You were upset. Perfectly understandable." He sets the basket down, and talks to a novice. "Brad, can you get us a bowl of that stew I served for lunch? Some bread and cheese, too." He moves through, checking the stoves.

Cynthia stays close to the doorway so she is not in the way, She moves aside as a novice puts away some spices and she waits quietly.

Lacota bustles about, seeing to the preparations for dinner. He takes the bowl of stew from Brad, and sets it on a tray, as well as the cheese and bread. "Anything you'd like to drink, Cynthia? Strawberry Fizz? Blackberry Cordial?"

Cynthia smiles "Fizz is always good, and there should still be a good bit for the feast, or maybe some new fizz of some sort"

Lacota nods, and slips down into the cellar, returning not long after with a cup of strawberry fizz. "Here we go. The stew was served for lunch... I was told it's quite tasty....I've been trying out new types of herbs and spices... Tell me what you think."

Cynthia tatses it and smiles, dipping some bread into it and sipping some fizz. "Its very good father, then your food is always good." She smiles, a true smile this time showing she does feel better than she has .

Lacota smiles as well. "Thank you. I'm glad you like it. It's also good to see you smiling again. I've missed it."

Cynthia smiles, she finishes her meal and nods "I also don't plan to miss any meals again"

Lacota nods. "Good to hear. That worries your old dad so."

Cynthia nods "And worrying you is not a good thing to do"

Lacota says, "Works both ways, of course. I shan't worry you, either... I know I've been...not myself, lately."

Cynthia nods "I know, you been busy too but you're just doing your job and..well I dont know what all happen while I was away." She sighs "Even though I was safe....still no one here knew where I was, till I got back"

Lacota nods some, as he sits down in a chair. "You came back. That's all that really matters. Everybeast here cares for you."

Cynthia nods "But I still worried beasts and I didnt mean to.But yes I am back and don't plan any suddden trips unless I tell a beast first."

Lacota nods again. "Very sensible. Fortunately, the road and woods aren't as dangerous as they were a few months ago..."

Cynthia answers "Thats good, still no reason to travel really. I have no reason to travel now."She smiles"Sides I belong here"

Lacota smiles. "I'm glad of that. This place is a good home..."

Cynthia nods "Yes it is, friends and the abbey is like family and I have you" She goes to hug him"Love you dad, just...don't forget that ok"

Lacota hugs his daughter, smiling. "Don't you worry. I won't forget. You mean the world to me, and I want you to be happy and have a good life."

Cynthia smiles "I will and I know if I work hard I will be a Sister in the Order one day and if not thats ok too. I will still sing and maybe at the next feast"

Lacota perks up. "I wish you would! It's in October... Plenty of time to prepare, of course."

Cynthia says, "And pick a good song, one to fit the season maybe and maybe I could find a good dress by then as well, or just not worry on a dress"

Lacota chuckles. "I'm sure one of the Sisters could help with a dress, if you want... I confess I'm not much use there myself."

Cynthia shrugs"Just an idea for me, then again may be best to just not worry on it and work on my song, if I am to do one that is"

Lacota says, "I'm sure everybeast will enjoy it."

Cynthia smiles at this "Yes, I hope and I could even practice a song from the histoy logs maybe, there is lots in the library"

Cynthia smiles "In fact I could look for one now..no worries I won't miss dinner!" And she rushes off!

Lacota smiles to himself, and gets up to see about serving dinner. This has turned into a not so bad day, after all.
