Lacota And Krystal Have A Nice Chat

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

Krystal is sitting on the steps leading up to the walltops, about half way up. Lacota crosses the grounds, raising his paw in greeting. "Hail, Krystal! I have heard the recent events. Jackson dead, Caleb returned... You're free, lass. Free." He smiles, standing at the foot of the steps.

Krystal looks down the steps but frowns still. She had secretly watched most of the fight from the walltops and knows from news a short time later the polecat is indeed dead but still seems troubled. Lacota's smile falters. "Are you alright, Krystal?" He climbs the steps up to the other squirrel. "I did not mean to upset you, Miss..." Krystal is quiet before she answers, "You...have not." She still has to get use to talking as she is still unuse to it."It is..my fault someone was hurt, my fault others died..cause my master wanted me back and didnt care who was in his path." Lacota rests his paw on Krystal's shoulder. "No! It is not your fault. Who has died? Did you kill them? No. You mustn't blame yourself." Krystal has tears well up in her eyes as she hugs Lacota and lets the tears come. " Jackson..tried to take over the beaver's hut, and killed" She stops and goes on "...and last night he was at the gates, wanting me but the white fox and him fight, Jackson life ended but he injured your champion who is in the infirm, he is alive but hurt bad. Maybe If I had..ventured out Jackson would of just left " Lacota slips his arms around the squirrelmaid gently, and hugs. "Shhh, shhh. There, there. Kadar's death is not your fault, Krystal, and the reason Flicktail fought Jackson is because we care about you... I... care about you. Very much." He reaches into a pocket in his robe, and retrieves a handkerchief. He starts to dry Krystal's tears. "I would be... despondent, if you were gone..." Krystal allows him to dry her tears, and stays beside him, "I..I do not plan to go, I have no home and havent since I was..young." She looks past him at the abbey grounds and then back to him,"I..rarely had kindness and so unuse to this idea of freedom, am I..truely able to choose my own way of..life?" Lacota smiles a little bit, nodding. "Yes, you are. Whatever you want..." The Friar closes his eyes, and exhales slowly. "If you would... You are most welcome to make this your home... And..." He looks away, a bit of a blush to his cheeks. Krystal smiles at the idea of a home, "Live here? Would..would your abbot allow me to live here?" Lacota nods to Krystal. "Oh yes, he would! Lorimis is a good beast... One of the best I've ever known. You'd be very safe here." Krystal smiles "Safe..sage sounds nice Lacota" She starts to relax, for the first time since she has been here she is less jumpy than she was. "I promise you, on my word, you will be safe..." Lacota looks up at the sky, thinking quietly for a few moments. "I... I was... Owned, too... A long time ago..." Krystal frowns, she nods "I am glad you escaped and was freed then. it's..its not a good life to be..enlaved" Lacota squeezes Krystal gently. "No, it's not... It's a miserable existence... But, we are *both* free, and in control of our lives." He smiles warmly. "And you certainly deserve freedom, you're a wonderful Lass." Krystal smiles again, a true smile this time at his words, "I..I think I will live here, this is...home now" She looks to her wrists, her ankles are worse but thier covered in bandages, her wrists arn't now but you can see the missing fur as she lays her paws in her lap. She is a little sad but she is also happy to be free as well.

Lacota nods, smiling. He takes one of Krystal's paws in his own, and lightly kissed it. "Welcome Home, Krystal. Welcome." Krystal at first tenses up and then blinks surprised and smiles, "Thank..you. I will be glad to call your abbey home" Lacota says, "And we are happy to welcome you... For I have something to confess, Krystal," The Friar blushes once more, "I have need to admit that I enjoy your presence greatly. Your well being means more to me than you may realize." Krystal listens to his words and smiles, "I...do feel more at ease when your around, I..do not know why." She is queit and speaks" Some beast here still make me..nervous, and I still am so un use to talking or being near many, and some seem to stare at me when I was in the corner or on the floor so I have sat in a chair the past couple days near the fireplace." Lacota nods with understanding. "Aye, I can understand that. It was... hard, after I escaped my... Well, you know. He was a fox... And I still distrust foxes sometimes..." Krystal says, "It is rare for one to be...truely good." She grows quiet again before bringing up something else "What of my missing fur on my wrists and..ankles, it will not cause a problem will it? They would not think less of me..would they?" Lacota pulls his sleeves up, revealing his own scarred wrists. "I do not think less of you." Krystal looks at the scars and nods, "You then..understand, probbally more so than others." Her thoughs are intrupted as her stomach growls a little and she looks away, she has not eatten much since she has been at the abbey and missed breakfast today. Lacota tilts his head, then stands, holding his paw out. "Miss Krystal, it would be my honor if you would give me the honor of joining me for lunch." Krystal smiles as she takes his paw and slowly stands "Lunch sounds good, I..have not really ate much since been here, guess not use to it..to having a good amont to eat, pass worries maybe" Lacota smiles, squeezing her paw. "Well then! I shall have to introduce you to some of my special dishes! I've been told I prepare the best fish this side of Mossflower." He chuckles. Krystal chuckles some "Well you are the friar of the abbey." Lacota smiles, walking with Krystal toward the steps to Great Hall. "My dream job..." The squirrel looks around, then leans in and lightly kisses Krystal's cheek... But then he blusles to the tips of his ears, and quickly looks away, mumbling, "Ohh... M-my apologies... I.. Krystal gets a look of surprise on her face and for now is speechless on what just happen and feels her cheek and stands there quietly.

Lacota looks at the ground, still red in the face. "I'm so sorry... I... I..." he stammers, "Krystal, I cannot lie. I find you a wonderful lass, and..." His voice trails off. Krystal blinks and looks at Lacota "It is...you just surprised me is all." Lacota looks back up at Krystal, then says, "I... I feel strange, when I'm around you... A good strange," he grins a little bit. "I've never felt this way before around someone..." Krystal tilts her head, "Like...how? Like safe and being able to talk freely?" Lacota blushes again. "I'm afraid to say... It is awfully forward of me..." Krystal nods "Maybe we should, just get lunch then" Lacota says, "Yes... Today is beautiful, is it not? And a bit warmer. Would you like us to take our lunch out here in the sunshine and melting snow?" Krystal smiles "We can eat outside, snow most likely wont stay melting...still a good deal of winter left" Lacota waves down a passing novice. "You there. Would you be so kind as to bring out some of today's lunch for my friend and myself? If it's no trouble." Leading Krystal to the top step at the doors of Great Hall, he gestures a place where she can sit. "I like to sit out here on theses steps, and watch the goings on, when I'm not busy... A nice spot, really." Krystal smiles as she sits beside him, "It is most likely nice here in the spring once all the snow is gone, it will be nice to enjoy spring and not worry on anything, have time to relax and not worry if doing something right or not." Lacota squeezes Krystal's paw. "Spring here is beautiful... All the flowers... Remind me, when the flowers are in bloom, to show you the Garden of the Late Rose. A particularly stunning spot, the Late Rose is one the most beautiful plants in all of Mossflower... Also, don't let me forget that I plan to teach you how to read and write, alright?" Krystal nods, "I do still want to learn, it feels..makes me sad I can not at my age, but I was never taught. I think because my master didnt want me to learn much" Lacota says, "Well, come spring, I'll make it my duty to tutor you. Once you can read, and write, you'll be amazed how much the world opens up to you. It's an incredible experience, I can tell you." Krystal smiles, "Thanks Lacota. You have become a true friend to me...my first real friend since I been here" Lacota pats Krystal's shoulder. "I am glad. You do mean so much to me... I've not had somebeast that I cared about as much as you for a long time." He smiles, as the novice returns carrying a tray with two steaming bowls, a few rolls, a large wedge of cheese, and a bottle of Lacota's best raspberry fizz. "Thank you, Lad. Keep up the good work, you'll be a full Brother yet." The mouse grins and runs back into Great Hall, as Lacota says, "Ahh, a fine beef stew. I seasoned this with some of my secret herbs!" He chuckles. Krystal smiles, "I am sure if you made it, it will be very good. I am also getting use to different tastes, I...well did not always have the best food and just water to drink when I was a captive" Lacota frowns slightly. "He treated you horribly..." The squirrel grits his teeth, then sighs. "Krystal, may I ask you a potentially painful question? You don't have to answer if you're not ready..."

Krystal looks unsure but nods"Ok...ask me what?" Lacota takes a deep breath, then asks, "Krystal, do you know how old you were when... Jackson, took you?" Krystal tries to remember "I..remember when I was a dibbun and..my father died and my mother was not always around, see..she was a slave." She looks down "She tried to escape once and hurt her leg and refused to...do anything, she just laid there and said she had her own way to freedom. I was made to do some simple tasks at first and then harder ones. Mother.." Tears form as she starts to cry and then speaks again, "She wouldnt get up one day..she wouldnt move..wouldnt wake up she was..gone" Lacota leans in and hugs Krystal, patting her shoulder. "I'm sorry, lass. I'm so sorry..." Krystal returns the hug, and sniffs "That..owner sold me when I got depressed, and then...well for past seasons, not sure how many Jackson had me, he scared me into working and..he had been my owner and most likely would still be if I had not be freed and him killed" Lacota nods slowly. "I can't remember my parents very well... My youth is a blur... But a rather wicked fox owned me, far up north, where it snows a lot more than here..." Krystal nods, "I..been mainly in..parts of Mossflower, by the sea once I think" Lacota nods again. "The sea is beautiful to behold, in all it's wonder... Would you want to see it again, as a free beast?" Krystal doesn't answer him and if he looks down he will see why she has fallen asleep leaned agaist him and looks peaceful, for the first time since she has been here it looks like she will have a good sleep
