Joining the Order

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

There are a few simple steps you should go through before deciding to join the Order.

  1. First, you should consider the importance of joining the Order. Oaths to the Order are meant to last for the life of the character, and are not to be taken lightly. This means making a lifelong commitment to the Abbey Charter, which you can read here. Since you'll be taking a serious oath, your character needs to be at least six seasons old. If you just want to be a resident without taking the oath, you can read about that here.
  1. Second, you should let one of the Brothers or Sisters know that you're interested in joining. They can talk to you more about the Order and explain what sort of responsibilities your character would be expected to assume.

Once you've decided that you do indeed wish to join, page Abbot Benar or Champion Magramba on the MUCK for your final evaluation. Either one is fine, and they'll look over recent logs of your character and make sure there's no reason why your character shouldn't join, and then if you're accepted, you'll be added to the Order both ICly and OOCly as a Novice 1.

Promotions are done when the member wishes to play as greater than a novice. Someone who seeks instant promotion is going to look pretty desperate, so it's better to RP for awhile as a Novice 1, then seek to become a Novice 2 once you've had a chance to learn your way around. This mimics the IC idea of novices learning their necessary lessons anyway. Your age when you join the Order doesn't let you skip to a later stage; you have to start as a novice and progress along the chain.

To be promoted, talk to Benar or Magramba again. They'll skim logs, consider your activity level, and make sure there's no reason not to promote you. Make sure to post logs on the site so that evidence of your activity can actually be found.

The Abbey is a not just a place for RP but is also the primary destination of guests and those seeking to "see our best." As such, the Abbey gets more scrutiny than other areas. Please don't join the Order thinking there's a prize or status. This goes for any other position within the Abbey as well. Join the Order because you wish to be an Order beast and understand that you'll be part of the MUCK new-player welcoming and recruiting team -- and will RP accordingly.

If you have any questions, Magramba and Benar can both be reached on the Muck on a regular basis. Leave a mail if you need to.

While Abbot Benar and Magramba do have IC authority in the Abbey, and can perform these OOC functions, the whole Redwall area, including the Order, is under Otter's control. Any decision can be revoked by him at any time for any reason, and there are some decisions that only he has the authority to make, like those regarding the Abbot and Champion. Please keep this in mind.
