Just some tools of the trade I found while doing some research online!
As far back as ancient Roman times, vinegar was used in water as a disenfectant, normally by Roman soldiers. In the middle ages, it was used to combat diseases including the bubonic plague, and in both the Civil War and World War 1 it was used by the military to disinfect and clean wounds. It also makes for a good sterilizer to kill germs. SOURCE: [1]
Myrrh was used as an antiseptic on wounds. Yarrow, or Achillea was used to treat headaches and wounds, especially battle wounds.
Head Pains were treated with sweet-smelling herbs such as rose, lavender, sage, and bay.
A mixture of henbane and hemlock were applied to aching joints.
Coriander was used to reduce a fever.
Stomach pains and sickness were treated with wormwood, mint, and balm.
