I'm not sure where I should post something like this, so I'm posting it here, and awaaaay I go!

So, earlier this evening, I saw a new guest online. I paged him with a usual greeting, said hey, introduced myself, and asked if they wanted help! Nothing wrong with that right? Well, as it so happens, I've had an encounter with a nasty little troll.

He said things along the lines of how I was being rude for soliciting unwanted help, and that I was mean, and I should be reported for how I treat new players and that I wasn't making it a place he'd want to play on if everyone was as rude.

Understandably, I was annoyed. My reply was something along the lines of 'Good, we're all rude, so you'd best go away'.

Yes, this seems like an odd reply, but if he took being offered help as rude, then anyone of us could have paged him, ask if he wanted help, and then be hurt by some of the things he said in reply.

Now, I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but this is someone I hope doesn't come back and I'm mainly posting this as a slight caution to anyone else who might decide one day, when a guest is online, to offer to help them out. This is a GOOD thing! I remember being connected the first time, and having NO clue what I was doing and was unfamiliar with everything. Luckily, someone paged me, and helped me out a lot, and here I am today.

If anyone responds like this to you unjustly, please don't take it the wrong way. People like to troll, and because its so easy to get onto RedwallMUCK, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. If this happens to you, just ignore it, and please don't let it bother you because offering to help a new player isn't a bad thing. If they tell you that they're not interested, that's not because of you, and if they decide to verbally attack you for trying to 'solicit unwanted help', you've done nothing wrong. Its just their way of having a cheap laugh at your expense.

If problems persist though, and you do have concerns about guests, or any new player who might treat you similar, note the time of the incident, and contact Otter about it. I'm not too sure what he'd be able to do, but I'm confident he could help in some way.

Hope this helps! Because remember, not all guests are bad! They're just new (sometimes) players who want to get on and have some fun! :)
