Green Hellebore

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

Flicktail moves along with a Vole dibbun in his arms quietly sleeping

Otto enters the Great Hall, looking worried and looking for Flicktail. Thankfully he found the champion and walked over, trying to be quiet, as not to wake the dibbun. He is holding a small vile in his hand which contains a large sliver of metal. He looks very somber indeed.

Flicktail says, "er...Otto why do ye look loikes ye lost yer best friend?"

Otto whispered a quick greeting and said, "Flick, I assume you've heard of what happened to Pedat? Well, I pulled this out of his back when I examined him." He raised the vile and continued, "Now there isn't any need for alarm but, I'm afraid it might have been from a poisoned blade."

Flicktail says, "no oi avent eard a thing..but Pedat usually gets imself in trouble"

Otto nods and asks Flick to sit with him, motioning to a table. He said, "I'll explain what happened, and the cause for my suspicions."

Flicktail asks, "suspicions o Pedat?" he sits"

Otto shakes his head and replies, "No. Of this lil riddle." He shook the vile lightly and the sliver of metal glinted wickedly in the light. He continued, "Apparently what happened was Anba-Hor had gotten him. But luckily he was rescued by a female squirrel." He paused a moment to let this sink in.

Flicktail says, "aye some blokes get all e luck, at gel prob be cuddlin im roight nows"

Otto shook his head and replied, "I think they are related or something. In any case what troubles me is that when I examined him, I discovered this shard lodged in his back and removed it." He straightened his specks and continued, "Well, after I stitched him up I thought the job was done. But then I noticed what appears to be a dry, green substance on the shard. Have a look." He offered Flick the vile.

Flicktail stares at it blankly not knowing anything about metals or substances 'aye that be green al roight

Otto said a little irritated, "Flick, blades aren’t just green for no reason. I've heard tells of Anba's methods and I'm worried are friend might be poisoned." He tried keeping his voice hushed but he was very nervous, and worried.

Fae walks into the great hall and swoons down to give Flicktail a peck and a nuzzle and sits beside him and waves cheerfully to the others.

Flicktail smiles to Fae....stroking her tail lightly

Otto nods somberly to Fae. He peers at the vile, as if it might be the devil himself.

Flicktail looks up "Whoy everone so quiet?

Otto shakes his head and replies, "Just thinking." He then smiled awkwardly and tried to brighten the mood asking, "Er how are things with you two? Expecting any dibbuns?" He put the vile in his pocket, deciding to worry about it later

Flicktail says, "oi expect dibbuns ever night they come ta be put ta bed"

Fae thanks a novice mouse for a mug of water and takes a sip sighing a little. After hearing about dibbuns she gives a barely noticeable grin

Flicktail moves over to the fire to pour a cup of tea and to get Fae a scone "loikes one Luv?

Otto smiles at the couple, then retreats into his thoughts. He pulled at his whiskers and stared at the fire. Suddenly a grin slowly formed on his face.

Fae grins "well it would be nice to have some little vixen paws running about" and notices the scone and blushes " oh, you meant a scone i wouldn't mind one, thank you"

Flicktail looks up "otto..wont some scones?

Otto replies "Thank ye kindly," and takes the scone chewing quickly and stroking his whiskers in thought. He said to himself, "Just maybe." He looked over and said with a hint of zeal, "I'll be right back." He then dashed quickly to the library.

Flicktail looks confused and to Fae "Quick fella arn't e?

Fae nods "but that's a good thing, he could get some chores and help quickly around the abbey"

Otto returnes with the scone in his mouth, and a stack of books in his paws. He mumbled through his full, mouth "I'fe guut fe anzer!"

Flicktail says, "um..e answer ta wot?"

Fae takes another sip of her water and listens to Otto for his answer

Otto quickly flipped through the books and stopped on the page of the dustiest saying, "Ah ha! Here it is. Now we shall see, whether or not this sliver is poisoned." He then retrieved a candle and lit it.

Flicktail asks, "oh ye know at much about ealing do ye Otto?"

Fae looks to Flicktail and then to Otto " Why would it be poisoned?"

Flicktail says, "Well when you put a sword inta somone Luv, ye normally don't put ealing salve onna blade"

Otto took the vile from his pocket, and rummaged even deeper for a pair of tweezers. He replied playfully, "I've been around." He then nervously opened the vile, and retrieved the sliver with the tweezers.

Fae nods and watches Otto carefully, holding her mug away from the vial and the silver

Flicktail says, "Anba loikes ta use Poision oi thinks"

With a shaking paw Otto held the sliver of metal, above the candle flame. Then as the flame touched the dry, green liquid on the tip there was a sizzle noise, and a little puff of black smoke.

Fae asks, "What does that mean then?"

Otto inhaled quickly and replied shaking, "Oh my! That means my dear, that are friend Pedat might have homemade poison in his system."

Fae gasps and her ears perk up “That's the squirrel that was sparring at the pond a few days ago right? What happened?"

Otto flipped furiously through the book and replied, "That devil Anba captured him."

Flicktail says, "well ol Otto ere says Pedat went and got imself in trouble"

Fae frowns "Anba...i don't like him, but i wouldn't call him a devil. Everyone has rough patches. His just show very easily"

Flicktail says, "well are e do be a Devil m' affraid"

Otto sat back and stared at the ceiling saying, "I can't find any detail on this type of poison. It's not in the records!" He put his head in his hands and sighed, "Whatever he used, it isn't in these books."

Fae ponders " didn't the healers heal some beasts that were poisoned by anba in the battle a while ago?"

Flicktail says, "Oi brought back e cures ta all Anba's poisionsmeself"

Otto replied, "Well whatever this is, it's new."

Flicktail says, "oi see's well oi opes Pedat don die..but time will tells"

Otto nods and stares long and hard at the floor, thinking.

Flicktail oi kows ye will does yer best otto, it be good ta ave another ealing beast

Fae frowns and appears a little flushed she finished her water seeing if that helps

Flicktail husg Fae 'wot wrong luv?

Otto looked up and said, "Well... If he has lasted this long, he might be allright."

Maythus arrives from the Staircase..

He comes as he is, An otter shaman from deep within mossflower. He wears a heavy dark brown cloak with the cowl up over his face, An off white dirty-looking scarf, Also a dull green robe underneath it all. Hes also carrying a brown leather bag over his shoulder full of herbs and such, A few gourds tied tied up with a robe slung over his other shoulder. Lastly he bears a long staff with odds n' ends tied to the top. All.....but a mystery, and secrecy shrouded about his form, his features show he is a relative of jo the otter for his face seems alot like his nephews.

Maythus mutters to himself as he was woken from a nice sleep, "What beast keep' goin' on and on 'bout poison!" He grumbles

Fae shivers and bolts upright "I do not feel so well, i need to go outside for a quick moment!"

Fae heads outside and into the Abbey Entry..

Otto looks at the old otter and replies after watching Fae go , "I am."

Flicktail blinks as the whole abbey seems to be darting about..unsure if his love is upset...."We will see about Pedat....." he looks up to the Otter "ello there Lad..welcomes

Maythus kinda waddles over to the table, leaning mostly on his walking stick and picks up the sliver of metal in two claws and looks at it for a bit

Fae wearily walks inside with a healer mouse helping her towards the infirmary, the mouse eyes Flicktail and nods to Fae, a concerned look in her eyes

Otto stands and also pears at the sliver. He also notices Fae, and looks worriedly to Flick.

"Aha! I've seen this." Maythus exclaims, carefully setting the sliver down and unshoulders his bag and most unceremoniously drops it on the table and starts to rummage through it

Otto replies, "It wasn't in the archives. What could it be?" He was strangely fascinated and nervous at the same time.

Flicktail looks up and goes to Fae "Wot be wrongs.....why does ye ave a ealer mouse?

Fae looks to Flicktail "s-she saw me...I’m a little under the weather." the healer mouse rolls her eyes "she'll be in the infirmary if you'd like to speak to her, in fact, i think it's best that you see her soon" and proceeds towards the infirmary

Otto looks at Flicktail and sayes, "Uh Flick... I think are talk of dibbuns might have been providence."

Flicktail blinks not understanding "wot does ye mean Otto?

Otto looks at Flicktail and sayes, "I think it's /time/. If you catch my meaning?"

Flicktail asks, "time? time fer wot?"

Otto says exasperated, "Time for you to go find out. Think Flick... Dibbuns!"

Flicktail looks to the orphanage "well yes the Dibbuns be in there.....

Otto replies quickly, "Dang it man do I have to spell it? I think your wife is going into labor!"

Flicktail says, "well o COURSE me Mate does Labor, we all gots chores....."

Maythus pulls out a small bottle full of a greenish looking powder, "Green Hellebore!" He sighs and shakes his head, "It's a wonder whoever found it did so, they must be skilled at such poison hunting."

Otto turned to the old Otter and asked nervously, "Is there an antidote?"

Otto then looks to Flick worried, and replies, "I may be wrong but I think, you should see your wife Flick."

Flicktail says, "Oi will .” He then asked "Well do ya find out wot e green stuff be?"

Maythus nods and sets the bottle down carefully, and gets out a bottle similar to the one he just set down, this time it has several slivers of bark all the way to the rim and sealed with a stopper, "Oak bark!" He grins at this and laughs to himself what an odd yet good antidote to a few things

Otto straightens his specks and hmmms saying, "Oak bark eh?"

"Aye, It was merely by accident. Though one has to figure out the antidote somehow don' they?" The old otter winks and chuckles setting the other bottle down and leans against the table

Flicktail listens, and doesn't know about all this odd stuff and poisons "Just so he be ok that be important

Flicktail goes upstairs to his mate.

Otto said, "If it's this Hellebore, why hasn't it taken affect in Pedat yet?"

"Did ye' use any herbs on the wound?" He asks with a frown on his face, which is normal for him

Otto shook his head saying, "No. We used brandy to numb the pain, and then water to clean the wound."

Maythus tsks and shakes his head, "Its already in his system and may as well be causing damage now. It slows the heart making it go fas' an' slow when it does. Also it messes about with the breathin'."

Otto nods stroking his whiskers. He says, "How long do we have, until it's too late?"

"If I’m correct, that headstrong squirrel can last more than a week with it in his body! AS long as he stays put, though he may need a bowl." The old otter make a half joke, 'vomiting' he thinks to himself 'splendid'

Otto nods and despite himself has to chuckle at the old otter. He looks up and says, "My name is Otto by the way."

"Maythus, though I seem to have taken up residence here. My goodness my home in the forest must be a wreck!" He says with a grin on his face.

Otto nods and replies asking the second time, "Well thank goodness you /are/ here. Now uh what is the antidote to this stuff?"

Maythus shakes his head at the confusion of the mouse but ignores it, "Oak bark, or yew if ye' can find it." The old otter gets a book from his bag and hands it to Otto, "A book I put together though I haven't any need for it.”

Otto takes the old book, and flips through it impressed. It would be much easier to help Pedat with this. At least he hoped so. He then remembered Flick, and Fae. Excusing himself he went to see what fresh chaos might be ensuing, in the infirmary
