Fight! Fight!

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

The sun is going down slowly, the sky pink and blue. Chris has been not all that busy to say the least, the stoat sitting outside his shop with a scone, nibbling on it casually as he leans back against the bakery door, staring up at the sky quietly.

Zocalo apparently left work early this afternoon because he's visible coming from the entryway of Ferravale. As he plods towards the marketplace he is stalled at the tavern by a tallish looking stoat who seems to have a bone to pick with the smaller otter. The two are almost obscured by the distance between the marketplace and the tavern but the conversation seems heated and Zocalo is agitated as he tries to pass the taller vermin but is blocked.

A flurry of hammering and sawing can be heard coming from the carpenters shop that has been going on and off all day, but the silence seems to be stretching this time and finally the carpenter himself pokes his head out of the front door. The ferret in in pretty odd looking shape as he is covered in chips of wood and saw dust with huge bags under his eyes and quite a tired stoop to his posture.

Oakenpaw has arrived.

Christopher could see the otter and other stoat from his seat. He watches them for a moment before he stands up, placing his scone off to the side before heading over in that direction. "Hey Z..." he says once he's close enough, not noticing

Sarnith just yet. "Anything wrong?"

Oakenpaw walks over leaning heavily on his Oak staff

Zocalo can't hear Chris over the beligerent ramblings of the stoat named Skaggs with whom he has had repeated run-ins in the past. They usually involve one or two of Skagg's friends but tonight the stoat is alone and very, very drunk. "Hey yew! Woody! What'cha think yer up to livin' here?" Zocalo, with his usual aplomb, stands his ground but refuses to take the bait. "Just let me past, Skaggs. You're too drunk for this..." "Too drunk?!" The stoat wobbles and comes face to face with the otter. "I'll show /you/ too /drunk/!"

Sarnith Was about to dip back into his shop after the small breath of fresh air but the movement of the baker whom he has yet to acturally meet catches his eye first and he follows the beast with his eyes from his door frame. Once he sees the situation with Zocalo and the stoat however he does dip back into the shop for a brief moment to return with a dark look on his face and a knotted length of wood that looks like it would make a decent club if need be.

Oakenpaw see's the Otter and hears what is sead, he steps up beside Z and holds his staff..nodding to Sarn he says to the drunk "mess wi th otter and ya mess with me Chap....

Christopher blinks a little bit at the hare and then slowly steps back. He figures the hare could handle himself, and if not, he'd get a good show out of it. Slowly, he turns around and quietly makes his way back towards the bakery before stopping and noticing Sarnith at his shop. "So...this happen often around here?" he asks, glancing back to the others.

Zocalo doesn't have too many fond feelings for the hare at the moment, heroics or not. The otter glares at Oakenpaw momentarily and then turns back to the stoat, "I don't need your help, hare. Besides, don't you have a war to run or something?" The stoat, Skaggs, glances back and forth between the two of them before losing his patience again. "I dinna want t' fight wi' /you/, rabbet, just the otter. He don't belong here." He takes a lurching step forward and swings awkwardly at Z's head.

Sarnith starts to reply to the new baker saying " Yeah et... " but it trails off there as he sees the stoat start to move in. The ferret curses as his brow drops and starts towards the trio, he will by no means make it in time to stop the first or probably sixth blow but he already starts to raise up the makeshift club as he builds up to a run on the approach.

Oakenpaw Ducks Skagg's swing, saying to Skagg "sorry Chap..My mistake" with any luck the swing histthe otter as Oakenpaw backs off, Z said he didn;t need help

Chris blinks a little bit as the ferret rushes off, blinking a bit. "Yeeah..." he slowly draws his sword, but doesn't go after him as quickly, stepping forward towards the group slowly, just waiting to see if he'll actually be needed.

Zocalo has been taking a bit too much this week and as the hare takes off and Skaggs' fist glances off the left side of his head, Z finally stops hanging back. With a frustrated shout, he tackles the taller stoat full on in the stomach and takes advantage of his adversary's higher center of gravity. As drunk as he is, Skaggs is quite easy to bring down and Zocalo perches on his stomach, towering over him and raining blows down on his face. "I /told/ you to /leave/ me /alone/ you stupid /stoat/!" The sentence takes on the rhythm of the punches as the otter takes out his anger.

Sarnith slows his pace as he sees that Zocalo has the stoat in hand for the moment, he still moves in so that hes close enough to break it up if need be. The carpenters main concern however is the attention that is probably going to be drawn from the tavern as the otter shouts and the thuds of the blows are easily carrying to its interior. So with the knotted length of wood held in his left paw and his right resting on the hilt of his short blade the hob tries to keep one eye on the tavern and the other on the otter.

Oakenpaw leans on his staff watching "Oh I say Good show there" he nods to Sarnith "Ello there Helpful Hob

Christopher watches Z just destroy that poor stoat. Thats when he sighs, making his way over. "Z, give it a rest already...I think you've made your point." he reaches out to tap the blunt part of his sword against the otter's shoulder. "Let him go...waste his life away in the bar some more." he frowns a little bit.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that Zocalo does indeed let up on the stoat (which he doesn't not feel guilty about), they've already drawn a crowd from inside the tavern. Several of Skaggs' friends who recognize Zocalo from previous run-ins immediately understand what is going on and rush in to rescue their friend. Unconcerned, Zocalo hops up off of Skaggs and prepares to face the rat and ermine. Around them the rest of the beasts from the tavern gather in a circle, eager to see what the outcome will be.

Oakenpaw Uses his staff to WHACK any beast that gets in way of his view "you cantake in" he says to Z

Christopher watches them and then frowns. He knows how out of hand this could get but he goes wide eyed at his thoughts. "Is it wrong I see this as a chance to promote my bakery?" he hums a little before shaking his head quickly. "Leave them be Z, its not worth it. Not out here." the stoat says, though he stays behind a little bit.

Raymond has arrived.

Sarnith watches as the crowd gathers and lifts the short blade from its hilt slightly in an attempt to keep any more of the stoats friends from joining in. After the rat and ermine pass the carpenter he nochaluntly winds another of the stoats friends with the knotted club in his left paw that was starting towards the otter. The ferret mutters " Daft otter's gonna's end's up biten off more den's 'e's can chew. " while eyeing the rest of the gathering crowd.

Oakenpaw asks, "Aye Sarn, I agree but he tol me notto elp him Wot?"

Raymond is walking from the direction of the main squre, he looks up at the crowd and sighs, "What now?" He walks over at a quicker pace to see what is going on.

Zocalo LOVES biting off more than he can chew. Since he's fully engaged in this now, he takes a step away from Christopher and his wise advice. Since he's roughly the same height as the rat he takes him on first, leaving the ermine to check on Skaggs. The enraged, drunk rat doesn't know quite what he's doing and Zocalo gleefully tackles him as well causing the two of them to end up in a spasmatic wheel of dirt and paws until they land on the ground with the otter on top. The ermine takes advantage of the situation and jumps on Z's back. The otter collapses between the two of them.

Christopher glances towards Raymond and was about to say something when Z started to charge. And when he goes down, the stoat shakes his head, moving over towards the pile, reaching out to try and grab the ermine by the back of the neck and give his friend a hand by attempting to throw the ermine off.

Sarnith keeps his place at the edge of the ring feeling that if he goes in there now it will turn into a real mess. The carpenter really doesn't like how the crowd is growing though and keeps his right paw on his short blade all the while. At this point most of the ferrets attention is on the crowd and on the weasel that he had winded earlier, the beast looks like he might go ahead and make another try at getting past the club bearing ferret. Lastly in reply to Oakenpaw the hob merely grunts " E's fine fer's now. "

Raymond blinks and sighs, "Great, a fight...anyone seen the chieftain, need to tell him something important"

Oakenpaw says, "Aven't seen im lad" he is ready to help but for now just enjoies watching"

Zocalo is fortunate that Chris has stuck around. When the stoat pulls the ermine off of his back, Zocalo rebounds to a standing position and pauses briefly to regain his breath. He's staring at the rat who is also recovering but the rat is a much more experienced fighter than the young otter and takes half as much time to recover. Zocalo isn't prepared for the rat's attack and throws his paws up to protect his face as the vermin launches himself at the otter, claws flailing. With a surprised yelp, the two fall over backwards with Z now taking the unfortunate position on the ground.

Christopher was about to try and push the otter out of the way...but he's too slow, watching the two of them fall to the ground. Slowly, he stands beside the pile, going to aim a hard kick at the rat's side, hopefully enough to just get him off of the otter, completely ignoring the ermine now, and if it works, he reaches down to try and pull Z up to his feet, going to take a position between him and just about anyone else, knowing most of them probably wouldn't fight the stoat. Or at least, that's what he hopes.

Raymond watches the fight and sighs "Well if see Scioto, someone knows where the base is, they been there and....oh forget it, I'm off duty and need an ale badly"

Raymond has left.

Oakenpaw side steps a vermin movingto look in on the fight. He move sto go follow Raymond

Sarnith turns his attention to the pile of fur in the circle for a moment as Zocalo yelps and the weasel that he had winded earlier tries to slip past, only to be tripped by the hob then kicked in the ribs. As the weasel writhes on the ground Sarnith plants a foot on its side to keep it pined down for a moment, he doesn't want to come into the fight just yet, Zocalo took to the fight, so the otter can finish it as far as this hob is concerned, well as long as it stays fair that is. The ferret does pay some amount of attention now though to the new baker seeing as the beast is getting quite involved in helping out a woodlander.

With the weasel decommissioned and the ermine out of the way, the fight comes down to the rat and Zocalo. Once back on their paws, the rat and the otter circle each other with malice in their eyes, each waiting to see what the other will do. Zocalo wipes a bit of blood off of his chin and glances down at his paw. This is the opening the rat was looking for and he charges Z but the otter is ready for him and with a neat sidestep he dodges the attack and whirls on the rat, punching him between the shoulderblades as his adversary rushes past. The rat arches his back in pain and falls to the ground, not unconscious by any definition, but obviously done with the fight. "We'll get yew later, otter." The rat growls.

Christopher watches them carefully, stepping out of the way once more before the rat is down. "No...you won't." he eyes the rat carefully, grumbling a bit before turning towards Z. "How bloody stupid was that?!" he shouts, growling a bit. "You could have gotten yourself killed!" glances around a moment, shaking his head.

Sarnith stomps once on the weasel, just below its ribs then steps off of the beast with all of his weight further adding to the weasels pain as he calls over to the rat and the rest of the crowd in general " No yer's won' an if yer's try's ter's yew'lls 'ill 'ave ter's deal wit I's ter's, an I's don' play as nice as dat der's otter does incase any o yew's 'as gone an fergot. " After the ferret speaks he walks over the stoat's prone form grinding his heels in and stops near Zocalo. Then with a slight turn of his head he looks over at the baker saying " E's were's doin fine an dey's ain' stoopid enough ter's try an kill em. "

Scioto has arrived.

Zocalo is somewhat bemused by the various reactions going on around him. Skaggs' friends start to haul the stoat off, glaring at the trio and muttering to themselves. Slowly the crowd from the tavern disperses, some back to the tavern, others off around town. The otter wipes more blood off of his chin with the back of his paw and inspects it, determining eventually that it is coming from a split lip. "It's alright, guys, really." He wipes the bloody paw off onto his breeches. "They had it comin' to 'em. I wouldn't've /died/." At least he likes to think so.

Scioto walks down the street, he is walking slightly slower tonight like he is tried, seeing the crowd he walks over slowly to them.

Christopher frowns, turning back towards the Otter. "You're an idiot. Nothing more. If nobody else had been around to help you...do you really think you could have taken three against one? If you get yourself killed, you have only yourself to blame." he frowns. "I...you...him..." he glances around for a moment. But then he goes to tries to land a comical 'thwak' on the top of the otter's head before turning, and heading towards his bakery.

Sarnith finally lets his right paw drop from his short blades hilt as the crowd sees that the fun is over for now. Turning to look at Zocalo the carpenter grins slightly, the grin grows as the baker speaks though, and once the baker starts off the hob says " Yer's did fine, jus' try's ter's get a tad further from der's tavern nex' time will yer's? "

"Ow!" Zocalo rubs the top of his head and squints towards Chris as the stoat stalks off. Then he turns back to Sarnith and grins, the irony of how the two of them reacted to this not completely missed. "I'll keep that in mind." He laughs. "Where would you prefer it to be?"
