Epic Fail At Comforting Taran :P

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

RW Abbey: Firepit

This is a small strip of land between the pond and the orchards which is bordered on one side by a portion of the Abbey's southern wall. This particular section, while well built and sturdy, is obviously much, much newer than the sections to either side of it. The ground is clear of almost all grass and weeds, and is somewhat uneven, still bearing deep ruts and impressions that have not yet been worn away by the rain. The center of this area contains a large firepit lined with flagstones and encircled with log benches.

Taran the mouse. DoraRose the mouse. Emyuil, another mouse.

Taran has found a spot that's rarely full of beasts and there is no fire as its not cold enough for one just yet, maybe if it was evening but its afternoon. He strums his lute and sings in his soft tenor voice, " Light in the darkness to not be afraid of the dark...the music that's inside us will shine." He is very good.

DoraRose had been wandering about the orchards, gathering windfall fruit for a pie she's planning on making, when she heard the sounds of the lute. After searching for quite a while, she has finally found the source for the sound, and she was surprised to discover that it was her father-in-law making the lovely sound. She silently enters the area of the firepit and sits next to him, smiling encouragingly, her basket of bruised fruit on her lap.

Taran doesn't notice the mousemaid right away, he still plays the lute and sings his tune, "Music inside us all, the light in the darkness..." He then sees the mousemaid but still plays the lute for a couple more mintues, "Let the light..shine." He finishes with one of those long notes and nods a hello, "Hello" His voice quiet as he speaks, the last few days he has been avoiding most everyone it seems.

"Good day," DoraRose answers in a kind tone. "That was lovely. Did you write it?" She pulls out a pear, cleans it on her apron, and offers it to the other mouse.

Taran looks surprised at the offer of the pear and takes it slowly, "Thanks and...they sort of come to me, I've not played my lute or sang in a while."

DoraRose nods understandingly as she digs herself out a pear. "I have a mandolin, and I write songs, although most of them are quite depressing. I should play my mandolin more now that Lily and Caleb are bigger...." she doesn't ask why he hasn't played for a while. She figures that if he wants her to know, he'll tell her.

Taran asks, "Why are they depressing, you would think happy songs would be here in this abbey?" He sighs a little, " Sorry if I seem...a little down"

DoraRose shrugs. "Because allot of them are about my sister, who was murdered quite a few seasons ago, before I left my home in Tuscani, which is to the East of here. So it's alright....I understand feeling down."

Taran frowns, "I am, sorry for your loss, but you have happyness now and that's sometimes hard to find." He grows quiet as it seems he has something else to say but then decides against it, it would seem.

DoraRose throws the pear pit center thing into the grass, then rolls up her sleeves, revealing her well-muscled arms, digs out a jar of salve and starts to rub it on her chapped paws and lower arms. "Indeed, it is. Your son has brought me much happiness. I am filled with sorrow that you 2 are not getting along well. I wish there was something I could do to help."

Taran nods "How..is he, I was asked to let him rest and I have, but not seen him out in a week now. If you wish to not say its ok." He does sound worried and concern as he speaks, "As for getting along...I wish we would too." The last part he sounds like he truely and honestly means it.

DoraRose has finished rubbing the salve onto her right arm and now is rubbing it on her left one. The firepit now smells like honey. "He's resting, which is something I've been trying to get him to do only since he BECAME the Master Healer. My Nana, Angela, told me that you had a little something to do with that, so thank you." She pauses for a moment as she rubs more salve on. "Do you know why you don't get along? I can't help if I don't know all of the facts." She only knows Leon's side of the story, and it's always best to know both sides before making a judgment or trying to help.

Taran frowns "Maybe, cause he didn't like listening to all of the truth, I guess...but I felt it needed said as for him resting I am glad, he still needs to rest and I will still not brother him, no worries"

DoraRose raises an eyebrow and glances at her father-in-law as she pulls her sleeves down and closes the jar. "And what truth was that? I'm wanting to listen. I'm giving you a chance to earn my trust." The female mouse stick the salve jar back into her apron pocket and smiles gently at him.

Taran frowns, "I am sure, Leon told you why repeat what foolishness I did and I was a fool I was just blind to it then and its cause pain"

Taran stands "Feelings...I was a fool, thats what and I am very sorry for what happen when he was 6 seasons...I" He just shakes his head and walks off, looking near tears.

DoraRose glares at a nearby tree, mentally berating herself for not being gentle enough. Gentle was never her strong suit. She's more of a chop-off-your-enemy's-heads kind of a girl. Still fuming, she starts to sew a torn seam in her daughter's petticoat.

Emyuil walks over by the firepit and sits down across from DoraRose. "Everything okay?" he asks quietly.

DoraRose sighs heavily as she starts mending the seam, the fabric laying against the windfall fruit in the basket on her lap. "Yeah. Well, actually, no. I don't feel like talking about it right now. Sorry."

"It's fine," Emyuil says, sighing as well, staring off into the sky as if looking for answers there.

DoraRose pulls out a pear and offers it to her brother as she studies the garment she's mending, trying to figure out how, exactly, it got so very much destroyed.

Emyuil gnaws on the pear, stopping to yawn briefly as he stares into the sky some more.

DoraRose starts to sew again, then makes a random comment, saying, "Leon's father has a lute. Do you think we should try and play one of the old Abbey songs at a feast, him on his lute and me on my mandolin?"

A Novice suddenly appears in the firepit, looking very frazzled. "Mrs. DoraRose! I've been looking for you for an hour! Your grandmother wants you in the Infirmary as son as possible." The warrior stands, dropping her sewing into the basket and smiling at her brother as she hurries away. "We can talk later! Come find me!" she calls over her shoulder, and then she is gone.
