Dibbuns and dust in an attic

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

RW Abbey: Attic

It is extremely dark and gloomy in here. Below your feetpaws, you can feel a shape in the floor; it's roughly rectangular. Upon closer inspection, you see that it is the trap door. The dust is thick in here, and your movements disturb it. The grey stuff rises in clouds. It makes you sneeze and cough.

Standing still, the dust slowly settles again. Your eyes become accustomed to the darkness, and you can make out a grey thin light towards your right. Feeling along the wall, your searching paws feel a gap. You can probably squeeze through it.

When he's got nothing to do, and when nobeast is around, Zarok wanders to the most obscure places. Somehow the lizard managed to open the trapdoor, and now he climbs into the attics, sneezing in the dust.

Baroodit Sits in the far corner of the room in the darkness, the mole has been here for some time so the dust from his passage has had plenty of time to settle. The opening of the trap door and the subsequent invasion of light cause the mole to squint, but other wise he makes no noise.

After the trap door swings closed, a voice calling from the room below is heard. "Zarok? Are you up here?" It is the voice of the warriormaid, DoraRose. A thumping noise is heard then, followed by some muttering. Apparently, the mouse is trying to get into the attic.

Zarok tilts his head, almost bird-like. "Dorrozzzzzzzze?" He hasn't noticed the mole, as his eyes are still adjusting to the dark. He wanders around the room, unwittingly standing directly upon the trapdoor.

Baroodit keeps his silence as his solitude is disturbed, he knows he's going to have to do something soon, but has yet to decide what, so he waits and watches from his place in the dust for the time being.

DoraRose manages to open the trapdoor just as Zarok stands on it. If he falls, she will catch him. If he doesn't, she might come close to fainting from fright and shock.

"Yargh--!" There's a strangled yelp as Zarok starts to fall, reaches out with what's left of his missing tail, forgetting that it's not long enough to hold things with, and, scrabbling wildly, finally manages to sink his claws into the upper edge of the door itself, hanging by one claw over the side of the set of wooden stairs.

Baroodit watches from where he is seated in the corner of the room, the re-emergence of light causing him to scrunch up his eyes again, and the large amount of dust getting tossed about is threatening a sneeze from the silent mole. He moves one of his digging claws to cover his nose as he fights the urge.

DoraRose literally screams from shock, stumbling backwards as the ladder whacks her right shin. She stands there for a good 30 seconds, then rushes forward and holds up her paws. "Zarok! Oh, sweetheart, are you alright? Come here, it's OK, don't be scared, I'm right here."

"Me...fine--" The 'fine' comes just as the lizard's claw comes loose, and, this time, he scrabbles again, for a moment hanging by his /teeth/, until he finally falls, colliding with each step of the ladder, wincing as the wood whacks against him---whump whump whump--until he lands neatly in the mousemaid's paws. For a moment, he just remains motionless, then breaks into hoarse, rasping laughter.

Baroodit pulls his paw away from his nose as the urge to sneeze passes, at about the same time as Zorok falls. A slight shake of his head is the only reaction he offers.

DoraRose catches Zarok and hugs him close. "Are you alright? And be honest." she climbs up the ladder (for some unknown reason) and sits down in the dust -- and sneezes.

Remembering DoraRose's allergies, Zarok gazes at her uncertainly. "Me okiezzzz....but issss you?" Putting the matter aside, he wriggles out of her grasp and wanders into the shadows, calling, "Let's go explore thizzzzzzzz place!"

DoraRose sits there, watching the lizard wandering off into the dark. She opens her mouth to say something, but then catches sight of the mole. "Well, hello. Who might you be? I'm DoraRose Strongheart."

Baroodit stays in his dark corner as he is addressed, he merely stares back at DoraRose and stays silent. As more of the dust settles on the mole he blinks some of it away from his eyes.

DoraRose stares back at the mole and opens her mouth to say something more, but a voice cuts her off. "DoraRose? Are you up there?" the mouse in question stands and smiles at the dibbun. "Don't stay up here too long, or you might get sick." Then she is gone, having drifted down the stairs to answer the beckoning voice, which sounds suspiciously like that of 1 of the Sisters.
