Dibbuns Against Bedtime: The Making

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

RW Abbey: Library

The library is disturbingly empty of books and scrolls, and only a small fraction of the knowledge it should be able to hold is actually present and available for perusing. The beautifully crafted windows are well cleaned. Giving the library plenty of light during the daylight hours. This, combined with the room's high vaulted ceiling, causes a rather foreboding play of shadows in the corners and between shelves. The flagstones of the floor are cool and smooth, and echoes of clicks and thumps can be heard quite clearly when beasts walk among the mostly bare shelves. Brass lamps containing short, fat little white candles provide enough light for reading.

Light is beginning to filter in through the windows.

The sun's rays shine into the Library of Redwall Abbey, illuminating the tiny figure sitting at a table. Most dibbuns would be outside right now, playing around and generally dirtying themselves. But not Mirien. The vole dibbun sits at a small table, scribbling on a piece of parchment and murmuring to herself. "No, dat won't work, it doesn't make any sense. How about 'our aim is to cause havoc and mischief in the Abbey, and generally confound the elders.'"

DoraRose comes from the library stacks, holding 5 books in her arms and another 1 in her paw. She is reading while walking, and somehow managing to not run into things. At the Dibbun's mutterings, she looks up and smiles. "Well, good day to you."

Mirien looks up at the mouse and waves to her, the quill still in her hand. "Heyyo there! Dat's a /lot/ of books. Is it a good book?"

DoraRose closes her book and sits down by the volebabe. "Yes, it is allot of books. This is a good book -- at least, so far. But you might not think so. It's about the history of Redwall." she glances at the dibbun's parchment. "Whatcha got there?"

Mirien nods. "I's gonna start a dibbun club!" she says, pointing to the paper. "In dis club, we's gonna eat lotsa candied chestnuts and neva go to bed!"

DoraRose raises an eyebrow. "Never go to bed? Oh my. Why on earth not?" she sets the books (all 6 of them) on the table and gives the dibbun vole her full attention.

Mirien distractedly moves the books away from the still drying ink on her paper, and stands up. "Dibbun's don't like baffing or bedtime! Dat's why." She draws a shield on the bottom of the parchment and adds the letters DAB inside it. (The 'b' in DAB is backwards.)

DoraRose nods wisely. "Of course, I had forgotten that. Bedtime is no fun -- staying up and playing or reading is so much more entertaining." she looks at the shield on the parchment. "That's an interesting symbol. What does D.A.B. stand for?"

Mirien exclaims, "It's f' Dibbuns Against Bedtime!" she declares proudly. "I made it myself!"

There's a noise from within the bookshelves, and Mirien hastily puts away her papers. "I's gotta go!" She runs out before an elder can emerge from the bookshelves.

DoraRose whatches the dibbun scurry off.

OOC Note: I had to get offline, reality called. Oh, and DAB is recruiting!
