Courtesy and Etiquette

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

It's not like this is a surprise or anything, asking players to be polite to each other. It's general common sense.

This is an OOC requirement of this MUCK. These are real people you are playing with, not some artificial computer characters.

IC is another matter. It is preferred for characters to get along, but it is completely IC for a squirrel not to get along with a fox, merely because they are natural enemies and for no other reason. Maybe a character assumes something awful of another, and so doesn't want to talk to them. All of these are character choices, and as such, allowed.

I don't think it is really necessary to get into detail on courtesy, because it is all rather obvious. Etiquette, on the other hand, can use some explaining. Most things are simple courtesy, but reiterating them isn't a bad idea.

When you enter a room, if there is RP going on, ask if you may join. In general, the answer will be an immediate yes. Some of the time, however, something rather private might be going on that the characters would prefer you didn't join. Therefore, by asking, you don't annoy other RPers by just barging in. In public areas, such as Redwall's Great Hall, there should never be private RP going on, so you should never be turned away. But it never hurts to be polite and ask anyway.

During an RP, there are two accepted methods. It is encouraged for all RPers to pose as they like to further the RP. Many RPers however, prefer to keep to some sort of order. Either way works, but don't be surprised if someone says it's your turn to pose.

If someone is being rude to you IC, remember that it is their character talking, not the player. There is no reason to be rude OOC.

Twinking. A twink: an action you make that does something to another character without prior permission. Rather than posing that an arrow is flying at a character, the twink says that the arrow hits the character in the arm. This is not allowed. Since you aren't another character, you can't know what they would do, whether it be dodge the arrow, attempt to dodge and fail, etc. It's not your choice, it is theirs. Twinks are not acceptable and most likely will be brushed off as if they didn't happen.

The only time a twink is permissable is with prior permission. OOCly you ask the other player if you may, and since he or she said yes, you may. Since this generally requires more work, simply don't pose twinks. It's just easier.

Another rude point in a roleplay is trying to have a private RP. It's one thing to start RP and keep it private, it is quite another to join a public RP and then insist on RPing privately with someone already engaged with others. Sure, go ahead and ask if you can, but if someone is otherwise involved, you have no business insisting on a private RP.

In general, just be polite and you shouldn't break any major etiquette rules. If someone requests that you stop doing something, be polite and stop.
