Chatting In The Kitchen Yard
RW Abbey: Kitchen Yard
Boasting a decent view of the Abbey's orchards and gardens, this
space is mostly a work area, displaying well trampled grass and the
occasonal bare spot. An especaily worn spot is the path that leads
between the kitchen gardens and the vineyards.
From one end of the kitchen yard to the other, the space is nearly
filled by the tremendous gnarled trunk of an ancient apple tree,
roots and branches and boughs trimmed off and piled alongside for
later use. A deep groove of mud-churned sod and torn grass leads
back to the orchard, from where the fallen tree must have come.
There are also a variety of workshops around the edge of the yard,
the wood-shop, the cooper for making barrels. The small smithy
where the abbey's tools are made, the potters kiln and the brewery.

Silverstorm was working at the forge making barrel rings and even a pan for the friar, who was almost done and she smiled at her work as she had gotten a lot better with making things over the past season.
Zork wheels into the area in his wheelchair and stops by the forge as he watches the otter maid and then speaks “Ya doing good Silverstorm, I see you’re finishing a pan for Friar Lacota?”
Silverstorm blinks and looks behind her and nods “Yes Brother Zork, I be almost done ere’, did it turn out ok?” She shows him the pan, all seems good but it is a little smaller than it is supposed to be, otherwise the pan shape, handle and how deep and thick it is, is all good. It appears to be going to be a silverfish color maybe and have a black handle.
Zork nods “A little smaller but ya know, Lacota can still use it I wouldn’t worry, he may even be glad to have a slightly smaller pan doe sauces. “ He grins “And the shape be good and perfect, ya really improving on the skill and the barrel rings are good..great in fact and I know you do good with nails and hinges now.”
Silverstorm nods and sits the pan down after doing a couple more things needed for it, including cooling the pan once it’s down and then sits it on the table. “I am glad, maybe I can be Sister soon, then that’s up to the abbot isn’t it?”
Zork nods “But I can put in a good word for ya, maybe at the Summer Feast and nope, no clue when that will be yet, I can ask Abbot Benar though fer ya” He offers a smile and leans back in his chair.
Silverstorm smiles wide “Oh Thank you Brother Zork” She goes to hug him and then steps back “S..sorry I just , well be appy ‘ and not a lot of good has always appen’ in my life, I always felt out of place, even here a few times mainly round the otters as they can swim and have fun in the pond and I can’t, they like hot root stew and I seem not to, they know otter tunes and I don’t.” She looks at him “Am I..odd to be a blacksmith? To be so strong when I am a female?”
Zork returns the hug and then answers her questions “No lass, tis not odd it makes ya special and you should be glad of that. Who cares if ya not like other otters, you are you and that’s wot be important lass, never forget that and never forget being ya self, never lose ya self ok?”
Silverstorm nods to this “Thanks and I will remember that.”
Zork nods as he rubs his leg a little and sighs, he then smiles a little “Good lass..good”
Silverstorm watches him “Ya ok there? “
Zork nods “Yeah just some soreness is all, it will pass. Can’t do much when not in this darn chair, bit annoying”
Silverstorm listens “Well…maybe Brother Leon can help you.”
Zork shrugs “He..he knows, tis not much he can really do and it’s not bad really just wish could stand more often, and if I ever need to go up steps..well can’t really now. I barely got up some steps a few days after Lorimis died and need help back down them when I went ta de library, not been up steps since , not that I went up them very often. I always take the longer way to me room as there is a ramp to the lower floor from open ground now, tis helpful”
Silverstorm nods and then hears a bell sound for dinner and turns to the badger, “You want me to wheel you to dinner?”
Zork smiles “Sure, if ya want ta lass”
Silverstorm then goes to wheel him to the entry and then to cavern hole, and they get there just in time for dinner .
