RW Abbey: Great Hall

The Great Hall of Redwall Abbey. Countless paw falls have echoed from these stones, and untold numbers of feasts and merry gatherings have been held here. A table, not nearly so grand or large as its predecessors, but quite functional for mealtimes, rests near the center of the hall. Chairs exist here aplenty, and they are all of a matching set. High above, the stain glass windows give the Great Hall a beautiful appearance. The glasswork is exceptionally done, crafted by a skilled artist. The floor is clean and swept. A fire is kept burning in the fireplace at almost all times of the day and night, and there are several more comfortable chairs and cushions set up here, of varying sizes. One looks large enough to easily accommodate a badger.

The Tapestry hangs proud and tall, and while the rest of Redwall may still bear the scars of natural disaster, this most famous of Redwall's relics remains unharmed by beast, time, or the elements. The figure of Martin the Warrior seems to be watching over his own with an unchanging, kindly gaze.

Soft light is slowly beginning to filter in through the stained glass windows high above your head.

a message (board) with notes tacked to it

Leon is sitting at one of the tables quietly, he has finished breakfast and decided to take a day off, after yesterday’s event he is still a little on edge, even if he was not hurt it was still not something enjoyable.

Zee slowly comes down the steps using his walking staff and grunts as he goes to sit close to the mouse, he nods a hello "Ello Brother Leon, ya seem to be up early, then gain ya are de Master Healer" He grins "So how are ya?"
Leon frowns as he looks at the badger, "Oh just..great, or maybe lucky I didn’t end up lizard chow cause of Zurrgg's pet lizard. I was on my way back from Camp Willow and just about at the gates when I was grabbed. But after a while he let me go and walked off, most likely to Ferravale"
Zee listens and frowns "Zurrgg is back around? Did ya see me nephew?" He shakes his head "Never mind we should warn chiefy or then by now he probably knows...darn if I were not still recovering I go make sure trouble didn’t start up, but I be sure chiefy can handle that dumb wildcat"
Leon frowns, "Scioto is dead, Zurrgg killed him and took over Ferravale. He even has Scioto's blade and his cape, complete with the Chieftain symbol. Zurrgg is chieftain of Ferravale now and he also burned the peace treaty between Ferravale and the abbey..its..the treaty is gone." He just gets that out, plain and simple.
Zee looks like he is in shock "Wot......chiefy d..dead?" A frown forms as he looks at the floor and then back to Leon as he tries to work all that out."that’s..not a good thing. If that’s true and most likely it is..I highly think it untrue that Zurrgg will just stop thar"
Leon sighs "That wildcat seemed fairly happy about it, even said he was going to start collecting taxes from the abbey." He adds after a short pause "I ...didn’t see Xander, I am sorry. Its possible Zurrgg killed him or...who knows, or if he does still have him its elsewhere as I know that wildcat has more than just 3-4 friends working for him."
The cast still makes a clunking noise on the stone floor, but at least that wretched cane is gone. Magramba comes pacing in, said cast scuffing slightly as it steps. The warrior glances around, noticing Leon across the way and giving him a wave. "You alright?" The mouse /was/ kidnapped and threatened and all that.
Zee listens and shakes his head " I...-sigh- I just wish I could go look fer him even if searching were called off mostly. As fer Ferravale being under Zurrgg's control now we may have on the lookout fer trouble"
Leon nods, he turns to Magramba "I am fine, little shaken up but ok. Seems he wanted me to maybe avoid being killed while he delivered his message, could of been worse....he could of let his monitor eat me or taken me with him when he left." He shivers at the thought of being someone's snack, then speaks again" I for one I am not going outside the gates again....I dropped off supplies at Camp Willow, our infirm supplies are fine...so no plans to go out, least not me"
"We're /always/ on the lookout for trouble," Magramba comments with a frown as he makes his meandering limp over to them. "That's why we have walls, and gates, and sentries, even if there's only a few." A wince shoots across his face when he lowers himself into the chair, but the contortion relaxes as he eases his foot out to a more relaxed position. "Ferravale has /always/ been a vermin village, and scraps of paper are scant protection from the vermin mentality. Something like this was always bound to happen; he's done us the favor of /telling us/ he's not friendly, at least. With the old chief, we just had to wonder." The squirrel settles his paws into his lap, meshing his fingers together. "I'm glad you didn't get eaten, Leon. That would have been unfortunate. Not that you wouldn't be tasty, I'm sure." He grins good-naturedly, then heaves a bit of a sigh. "Way I see it, not much has changed."
"But chiefy...errr Scioto never did threaten the abbey or those here and he seemed to get along with...well a few here when he did visit which was rare. He never let harm come to abbey beasts in his village either. I am not saying he was not a vermin, he was, but he...guess respected the abbey better than most?"
Leon shakes his head "Gee...thanks, but as I told someone last night monitors are dangerous. "He looks at the badger "I got along with Scioto and even one time helped Ferravale with some herbs they needed for their infirm. I get along with his daughter as well...and Scioto's daughter is rightful chieftain now, not Zurrgg."

"Oh, there's no doubt it's a step down," Magramba agrees, nodding at Zee. "Not as bad as if the Badger Lord was replaced by a pirate, though. Just a not-so-bad vermin to a quite-bad vermin." Leon's head-shaking gets his attention, and the squirrel tries grin smile on the serious mouse. "It was a joke, Leon. I really am glad you're alright. As far as who the chieftain ought to be, that's the Ferra...val-ians?" His brow furrows as he works out a demonym for the residents of the village before soldiering on. "The Ferravalians' decision to make, not ours."

Zee folds his arms over his chest" True...but we should least try and make sure de wildcat doesn’t stay in charge. Weather we get a peace treaty back with them after wards can be up to Benar I guess and whoever is in charge of the village after...or if..Zurrgg is taken down."

Leon nods, "I am sure guards would of tried to get an arrow or two into the vermin if they tried to leave with me. I am surprised he didn’t try and take me with him in fact."

"Our mission is not to wrest the reins of a vermin village from one set of paws to set up a young cat as our puppet-ruler," Magramba answers, his expression finally taking on a more serious aspect as his mouth hardens into a line. "We are beasts of peace, first and always. If Zurrgg disturbs the peace of Mossflower then we will deal with him, but not before, and not for any other reason. I'm not sending Abbeydwellers to die over who's in charge of the Ferravale fighting pits."

Leon says, "I be sure that Zurrgg will disrupt peace just give him time, wot if some of the Ferravale beasts that don’t follow him come and ask fer help..wot do we do then? Have them go elsewhere?""

Leon frowns but he does understand. "I don't..I trust a short few from Ferravale and not sure where they could stay till things are..well under better control. Zurrgg will most likely be back if he mentioned taxes and he did threaten to harm or kill if he seen any abbey beasts around his, as he calls it, village."

A frown pulls his lips downward as Magramba shrugs. "Anyone who's willing to live peacefully is welcome to live at the Abbey, if they just don't like him. It's a /vermin village./ Living there means putting up with this sort of thing, and if we're going after anyone who might be seen as a bully we'll probably have to burn the whole place to the ground." Not that it would bother him too much to do it. "We protect Redwall and Mossflower's woodlanders. We can't fight all evil everywhere all the time. If and when he comes back to make trouble for us or other woodlanders, we'll deal with him. Until then, peaceful folk should steer clear of Ferravale. Not a bad idea at any time, really."

Zee nods "It is a rough place not too welcoming to woodlanders. I stayed thar a little while but left..thar be a mole thar I know but be sort of not the friend type mole either. Ferravale were not too bad when Scioto were in charge, not I am not so sure wot will happen with the place. De new leader most likely wants trouble, unlike de former one who avoided trouble."

Leon says, "So we can expect trouble from Ferravale now. The treaty is gone and that’s one thing that keep some peace between us and them."

"I've always sort of expected trouble from Ferravale," Magramba admits. "A piece of paper is a flimsy protection from vermin. That's why we still have walls."

Zee frowns, "So...keep extra beast on de walls maybe? Ya know just in case."

Leon just listens, "Be best as Magramba said avoid getting to close to Ferravale and always wise to never go anywhere alone anyways. I was with an otter till just a little ways to the abbey and the otter said Oh your be just fine and left to head back to camp. You could see the walls but I didn’t see the vermin till it was too late."

"I'll put an extra sentry on each section of the wall," Magramba nods, twiddling his thumbs. "It doesn't take too many to keep watch, really, you just want to make sure they can't kill them all at once." A little morbid, but practical. "And right, Leon. If you're not a fighter it's really not wise to go out alone. A woodlander alone is an easy target for vermin, and even if we haven't heard about it like this new wildcat, there could be a lone thief waiting in the bushes just as easily."

Zee sighs, well after a short quietness from the badger he stands up slowly. "I am gonna get some rest, normally I offer me help as I can fight but...well I still have recovering ta do from de last fight ta help the otters" With that he heads to his room.

Leon nods "I know very little on fighting. I did once knock a rat out, but it was luck on my part and it was sort of by accident. Very little beasts here at the abbey know how to fight"

"I've killed a lot of beasts." Magramba states flatly, pursing his lips. "It's not as romantic as some folk think. I would rather be like you."

Leon frowns "I..have not ever killed, then I usually avoid trouble if I can. Me,Zinnia and Dora did run into crows on our trip to Salamanadston and I fought then..well sort of, sorta threw rocks and ran. Zinnia was the one who got them to fly off somewhat when she threw a pack of hot root at them and made them have trouble seeing where we were and we ducked into this ...like old den or something, the crows left and we continued on our way"

Magramba blinks as the story comes tumbling out, just listening as Leon goes on. "Wow. I started young, unfortunately, and it's kind of. Stacked up." It's kind of depressing. The warrior gets back to his feet, testing the cast gingerly before walking off. "I'm going to check in with the sentries."

Leon nods "Be carefull and don't go off as you’re not fully healed yet, in fact I expect you to come to the infirm for a checkup" He says that and he himself heads up to the infirm, yeah the squirrel best listen him and be up there soon after checking the wall tops.
