And She Knows The Rat...Why?

RW Abbey: Pond

The abbey pond is practically the place to go for relaxation. The orchards that settle onto one side of the water hole provide decent shade for the more heated months to come. Various types of wild flowers grow about the edge of the ground that lightly overhangs into the pond. The pond seemingly invites one into its cool depths, which holds its fish life and multiple species of shrimp and other water dwellers.

Like small boats trailing down a stream, the leaves of autumn float across the chilled pond. Rippling it with the movement from them. The vegetation has begun to fade, to shrink back towards the earth as autumn takes hold of this small serene area.

Cynthia is sitting by the pond, she has done some chores but she has also not totally followed the rules and has sneaked a couple scones she is now eating. The water is too cold for swimming but she still sits by the pond quietly.

Kyran steps up beside the mouse maid and is at first quiet, then he speaks " Well well have we made ourselves at home? Been here long enough and are you sharing the food or keeping them both..." He snatches one and takes a bite, “For yourself my dear"
Cynthia eeps and looks behind her with a frown, "I was....I mean..I had to clean up a mess and they have been really nice the past couple days." She finishes her own scone and stares at the grass.
Kyran eats his scone and dusts off his shirt as he looks around and rolls his eyes "This place is just so interesting...big too so any valuables, they have to have something right?"
Cynthia says, "They don't, it's like a peaceful place and they hate weapons. I don't think they have gold, and there is some silver things but that’s all. No one has anything fancy...so we...or maybe just you, can go elsewhere. I think I will stay."
Kyran frowns, or appears to frown as he looks down at the young mouse,"Stay?..Have you forgotten who decided to NOT kill you when you robbed him, who decided to help you better your skills and use them to get things, even taught you to use a dagger that it seems you have lost."
Cynthia sighs, "And you were very kind to not do so...sir" She frowns "I..I can leave whenever I want...just..." She thinks better of her words, "What about winter?..i..its soon"

Kyran stays calm, “What of winter? If you learn to follow directions then your have a nice place..always homes in the woods we can use..with or without permission, the home owners can either leave...or well we know the answer to that don't we my dear....and three is a rather nice log cabin by a stream in the woods...some vole den, but it’s only one....I expect you to meet me on the road in a couple days.....or the vole won’t be the only beast needing to worry about me"

Cynthia feels tears go down her face, she then gets up and rushes off towards the main building.
Kyran watches her rush off and smirks as he goes to head back to the dirt road. He has been polite, well up to when he got to the pond, and now he puts on his politeness again as he leaves the abbey place. He has no plans on coming back unless he needs to...and that most likely wouldn’t be a good thing.

RW Abbey: Great Hall

The Great Hall of Redwall Abbey. Countless paw falls have echoed from these stones, and untold numbers of feasts and merry gatherings have been held here. A table, not nearly so grand or large as its predecessors, but quite functional for mealtimes, rests near the center of the hall. Chairs exist here aplenty, and they are all of a matching set. High above, the stain glass windows give the Great Hall a beautiful appearance. The glasswork is exceptionally done, crafted by a skilled artist. The floor is clean and swept. A fire is kept burning in the fireplace at almost all times of the day and night, and there are several more comfortable chairs and cushions set up here, of varying sizes. One looks large enough to easily accommodate a badger.

The Tapestry hangs proud and tall, and while the rest of Redwall may still bear the scars of natural disaster, this most famous of Redwall's relics remains unharmed by beast, time, or the elements. The figure of Martin the Warrior seems to be watching over his own with an unchanging, kindly gaze.

Soft light is slowly beginning to filter in through the stained glass windows high above your head.

a message (board) with notes tacked to it

Caleb peeks into the room from the kitchens and looks back and forth before starting to enter the great hall.

Benar laughs softly at the bats words and motions to a chair, "Please have a seat, I'll send for some food and tea to warm you up. You are welcome to stay as our guest for as long as you like Foliosa. I would love to hear about Bat Mountpit, it is only mentioned in our histories I do not think anyone from the Abbey has seen it in seasons uncounted. It is a delight to have a new visitor and any help you wish to give the abbey is most appreciated."

Foliosa perks obviously at this before she flaps to a stand and instead crawls into a comfortable chair. The others go unnoticed as she focuses on Benar. "Ahh," She says in her odd sort of voice. "You know of Bat Mountpit. This is good! Very good. I have not been since I was young, but I remember it, I do. It is a nice place. You should visit it, you should. Visitors are rare, but well treated. Like here." Her thumb circles around her head to indicate the Abbey.

The fox, now properly de-floof-ified unwraps his scarf from his neck and begins to head deeper into the abbey for the afore mentioned food. He did his morning jog around the pond, that meant he was free to eat all the delicious food he wanted! Even though said job descended into a quick five minute walk.

Rascal pauses, seeing himself stared at by a...a...flying rat creature? Perhaps a deformed bird? Oh! A bat! It's been ages since he last saw one! He slides up to the bat, peering at her intently, twisting this way and that to give her wings a cautionary sniff before prodding at them with his paw.

Caleb decides to give all the beasts a greetings “Hello all, how is every beast today?"

Benar turns his head to regard Rascal as he sidles over and frowns, "Rascal do not stare so, it is most impolite." He shakes his head and sighs then ear perks, "Ah Caleb delightful, could you be a dear and fetch me some tea and perhaps a bowl of soup for our guest here" He indicates the bat, "Foliosa this is Novice Caleb one of our kitchen helpers and I am doing quite well thank you Caleb." He settles deeper into his chair, "As for Bat Mountpit it is mentioned as I said in some of our histories but we rarely venture that far into the mountains or across the western plains."

Foliosa suddenly curls at the sniff and poke that surprises her. She peels her lips back, revealing sharp teeth in her moment of surprise. Soon enough her teeth have receded and she is only blinking at the fox with wary curiosity. "Hello," Foliosa says cautiously and leans to the opposite side of the chair. "It is far," she replies, reluctantly looking away from the fox and back to Benar. "So this I can understand. I was trying to go back myself, see. But it got too cold, too fast."

Caleb smiles and nods as he goes to the kitchens and returns with some tea, a cup for both Benar and the bat and a bowl of soup for the bat as well. “Here you are Abbot Benar."

Leaning backward the fox folds his paws behind his back. "Rude?" He says in disgust, "I assure you that I don't even know the meaning of the word! I do admit I have never seen a bat up close before. How do you fly on such wings?" The fox leans over to the side of the chair that the bat leans too before turning to the novice. Ah yes, novices, the abbey uses them to take care of their more mundane chores, as far as the fox can see. Just like slave labor! Or volunteers, as alien a concept as that is. "I don't suppose I could get some tea as well? I'm trying to turn over a new leaf, so if you could add just a quarter of rum to it, that would be EXCELLENT. Also, mind the monitor lizard." He turns back to inspecting the bat.

Benar shakes his head and tuts at Rascal, "If you want tea Rascal you can go downstairs and ask the Friar yourself," He smiles at Caleb, "Thank you Caleb that was kind of you now then you are welcome Foliosa to stay with us as long as you need. It is an awfully long way to fly and the snow is starting, not safe weather to fly in at all."

Caleb frowns at Rascal and shakes his head, he nods at the cold weather "Yes, no snow yet but very soon is my guess and there is frost sometimes"

Foliosa looks up to Caleb with a smile. "Thank you," she chirps and takes the mug in one thumb and lowering the soup to her lap with the other. "You are a /mouse/," The bat points out with interest. "I have been called a flying mouse, many times! But I do not think we look so similar, no." This isn't said in an insulting tone and she grins up at him. The fox gets a tilted ear. "I... flap them," she says with confusion in her voice. Physics isn't her expertise. "Yes, mister Abbot. Thank you. The mountains surely are snowy at this time, they are."

The fox leans against the bat's seat, resting his head on an upraised paw, "Hmmmph, no respect. See what I have to put up with here?" Rascal's voice is lacking the harshness of an insult though. He makes no motion to go ask the friar for rum with his tea.

"Go with flying fox. Call me biased but I think that is a much more noble creature than mouse." He pauses, glancing at the novice, "Not too terribly more noble of course." He says with a toothy smile.

Benar smiles at Rascal, "You have every ounce of respect from me you deserve my friend you know this." He shakes his head and chuckles, "And it seems the snow has indeed arrived if Rascal's state was anything to go by when he came inside, not much but it has begun so," He sips his tea, "You are welcome to stay with us until the weather clears in spring if you need to miss Foliosa."

Caleb sits down by the fireplace and listens as they talk.

"Spring, oh!" Foliosa exclaims with a tap of her claw against the ceramic of the mug. "Such a long time to impose, such a long time." The bat wags her head and only smirks at Rascal before she leans into her tea for a careful sip of the hot liquid. "If it is alright. I do not wish to scare your creatures. Small ones. They are often afraid of me, I have found. Sometimes adults, too."

Cynthia enters the great hall rather quickly and goes to sit in a chair so she is more by herself and away from the others in the room.

The fox barks in laughter, "Afraid? Us? I think you will be ok here miss Fol. You will find the beasts here develop a rather healthy immunity to fear inspiring beasts...mostly through experience." He pats the chair, as it would be awkward to reach down that low to pat her shoulder, "Stay as long as you like! Just be mindful of the food. You might find yourself too heavy to fly away come spring if you don't." The fox chuckles again before giving both Calab and the abbot a wave on his way towards the stairs.

Benar shakes his head, "It is no imposition Miss, you are most welcome and I am sure our creatures would love the chance to meet a bat and speak with them."

Foliosa balances the mug over to the side table and starts on the soup, ears up and alert as she considers it. "This is very good," she comments with a glance over to Caleb. "Did you cook this? I am impressed!" She takes a few more sips and turns her head up to the ceiling. "I think I will be very pleased to have to spend winter here, I will."

Caleb watches Cynthia when she comes into the room , he smiles at the bat "I did help make it.." He gets up to go over and check on the mouse maid, “Hello...did you need anything miss?"

Cynthia looks up and quickly wipes some tears she has in her eyes and mutters "Go away....I'm fine" She normally would push one away but she doesn’t feel like it right now as she looks at the floor.

Benar says, "Well then I shall see to it that you get a bedroom in our guest quarters and if you need help with anything just let myself or one of the Brothers or Sisters of the order know." he then glances toward Cynthia and smiles, "Cynthia hello, have you had a chance to think about my offer in more detail yet?"

Caleb steps back from the mouse maid and frowns, he then heads to the kitchens as he did say he help with making dinner after all.

Foliosa drains her soup quickly and sets it aside, bobbing her head at the Abbot. "Thank you, thank you! And for the tea and soup." The bat hops off the chair and starts to gather her dishes, glancing around to locate where Caleb had initially come with them. "I think I will clean these up and then explore, yes. Thank you again, Abbot." She half bows, holding her dishes, and turns to follow Caleb.

Cynthia sighs, she looks over at Benar.."I...yeah I did and I don't know..I mean I thought but..." She frowns "I might have to say no."

Benar sits up a bit straighter and frowns, "Now why on earth would you have to say no Cynthia? You are most welcome to live here with us as part of our extended family. Has someone said or done something to make you feel unwelcome"

Cynthia shakes her head, "No one...here." She rubes her eyes and speaks "I mean....beasts here are nice it’s just.." She frowns “I can't stay..least more that a couple days anyways."

Benar frowns, "Well if you feel you must go then you must but you are welcome to stay here and no one from outside will harm you I promise"

Cynthia frowns, "This place can't prevent that....all some beast has to do is be weaponless and walk in" She mutters, a little louder than she should. She looks at the abbot after a little while and the fur under her eyes is a little wet, "I..thanks for being nice to me and I didn't mean to cause any trouble before..."

Benar's frown deepens as he leans forward, "you are safer here then out there, here there are no weapons, no one can grab you or harm you. If someone tries you are seconds from help all you need do is shout and no one can get you out of our gates without my say so"

Cynthia frowns, "But....staying here could not be the best idea"

Oz enters the room slowly and slows as he hears Benar and a voice he has yet to learn. Any dibbuns are with Sister Jenny right now it would seem. He doesn't interrupt what is said as he stays close by.

Benar says, "I think you will find it is the best idea Cynthia, if someone is after you we will protect you I promise all we need know is their name"

Cynthia frowns and hugs her knees to her chest and only looks like she is ready to cry instead of say anything more for the time being.

Oz clears his throat as he speaks "Is there a problem that has come up Abbot Benar? I notice we have a guest and one I have yet to learn about, but I can tell they are young..or least not an adult just yet anyways"

Benar reaches out and squeezes her arm, "You are safe here and ah... this is Cynthia Papa, and my dear this is papa Oz, he will be one of the beasts in charge of looking after you"

Cynthia gasps and almost falls forwards, yes she is jumpy and didn't know any other beast has even entered the room. She allows the arm touch and looks at the badger and studies him, she frowns, "I don't think he be much help if..." she frowns as if unsure, as she wants to stay and is afraid also if to stay..."If..." she frowns" Kyran...he was by the pond but he left wanted me out of here in couple days."

Oz listens, he smiles as he speaks "You be surprised what I can and can't do..." He tilts his head "Who or what is Kyran?"

Cynthia frowns, "A..a rat" she says quietly and sniffs as she feels tears again.

Benar says, "I see..." He frowns, "Well I shall tell the gate guards, this Kyran shall not be permitted entrance to the abbey. I shall not permit beasts to threaten anyone under my protection."

Oz asks, "I can make sure Lee or Flicktail knows of this, is there anything you need me to do besides that Benar?"

Cynthia looks between the older beasts as she has some tears, "Your...still letting me stay? But..what if he hurts someone...Kyran that is"

Benar says, "Of course, and if he is to hurt anyone he'd have to get past our guards and they are well prepared"

Oz says, "It may be a good idea if you stay inside the main building also, least for now"

Cynthia sighs as she looks tried, "He...probably won't be around for couple..couple days..." Her eyes droop as she starts to fall asleep, she did choose one of the softer chairs.

Benar says, "You rest," the abbot stands up, "I am going to the gatehouse to talk to the guards, I do not want that rat back inside my abbey." he nods to Oz and heads off."

Oz nods “Sounds wise Benar. I will stay in here with our guest"

Cynthia watches as the abbot leaves and looks over at the badger, she most likely will fall sleep soon so not like watching her would be hard to do right now.

Oz sits down close by, he may not be able to see but he can hear if she gets up at any time and if someone enters the room. He can also tell if it's a beast he doesn't know by their footpaws.

Cynthia yawns and jumps slightly at a noise from the kitchen, most likely cooks getting ready for dinner...she may not be a dibbun, yet she really isn’t an adult yet either, she slips off the chair and walks over to the badger and if allowed will climb into his lap to go to sleep, it just seems safer to be by a badger...I mean who is going to mess with a badger if they want to come in and grab her so badly, if nothing else she is going to fall asleep in a chair beside him...either way she falls asleep rather quickly.

Oz leans back and allows her to fall asleep on his lap. He is use to dibbuns doing this and doesn’t seem to care if Cynthia falls asleep either.

Cynthia sleeps……
