Amazing Race (RW Edition) - Third Piece of Map

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

Camp Willow: Underwater Cavern

Trickling down the vast walls of this hollow and eccentric cavern are small streams of water that pour slowly from between cracks in the natural stone walls. These dripplets of water plummet downwards towards the silvery pool of water near the back half of the cavern. Multiple canals have been formed on the floor to provide a dry surface, the canals leading into the pool. Various torches light the walls here and there, casting a dancing glow upon the strange place in the Camp. A blackened spot near the middle holds ashes of burnt wood, charred by the heat of death and life-giving flames. Various tunnels lead to other residences of the otter village, the tunnels lit by the glowing torches also.

With a knife in her left paw and a torch in the right, Alteira looks around the cavern for the best way to get to the map piece. There's a pale smudge at the far end of the cavern that could be the map, or it could be an eel. "Hale, see that?" she asks, pointing in the general direction of the pale smudge.

Hale squints at the blur, and nods. "Aye, i see et all right." The brawny otter is crouched on the ledge, both swords in her lap. She watches an eel swim past. "Suppose we 'ave t' go after et, don't we?"

Alteira nods. "I suppose so," she says as she wedges the torch into a crack above the waterline so they can see their way out.

Hale sheathes one sword and grips the other in her left paw. "Shall we?" She slides into the water, making nary a splash or ripple, despite her size. She holds still as an eel passes. "Got t' be as fast as we c'n wi'out alertin' them."

Alteira moves forward carefully through the water, trying to avoid hitting any eels. She's about halfway there when an eel's tail accidentally slaps her in the face.

The eels are starting to get too close for comfort, or at least Hale's comfort. A slimy body coils around her ankles, and she has a hard time not kicking it free. No point in alerting them all of the presence of two otters...but it may be a bit late for that. Another, larger eel loops around Hale's neck, and she tears it free, throwing it into a far corner of the cavern. Maybe that isn't helpful. Hale spits out water, splashed into her face. "Who is goin' t' dive f'r et?"

Alteira shrugs. "I'll do it." It's too late to keep the eels unaware of their presence, so Alteira begins slashing away at an eel trying to wrap itself around her legs. Oh well. She moves towards the map piece, slashing at eels all the way.

Hale doesn't pull out her second sword. She grasps her first in her teeth and dives, grabbing eels with her paws and dragging them down, cutting them away as she swims back up. She hopes to mayhap distract them from her friend as she fetches the map piece. "'urry up matey!"

Quickly grabbing the map piece, Alteira hacks her way back to Hale. "Need some help there, mate?"

Hale dashes all and sundry [minus Alteira] with her blade. "No, Im good. Just killin' eels, ye know?" She dives under the slick creatures, heading for the ledge.

Alteira pulls herself up onto the ledge, slashing at an eel trying to climb up. "Got the map!" She retrieves the torch from the wall and looks over to see how Hale is doing.
