Amarro and Some Plans

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

The Yard is a ruin but an industrious ruin, the buildings that burnt down have been pulled down and cleared away and a team of moles are laying bricks for the new forge building. Benar is stood out here in his heavy winter habit talking in a hurly burling rolly gurdy goardly voice with the Fore-mole."

Amarro sidesteps a few of the industrious beasts as she makes her way towards the yard and her son whom she easily recognizes from his upright stance. She's holding a rolled up piece of paper in her right paw and patiently stands off to the side as the Foremole and Benar talk. The activity in the clearing is interesting and she has no shortage of entertainment as she waits.

Benar waves at his mother and after a few more burrrrled words at the mole he turns and weaves his way over to hug the older squirrel tightly. "Hi ma, what brings you out here with us today? I am surprised you haven't found the fireplace in Cavern Hole and curled up."

Leon has arrived.

Amarro happily returns the hug. "I haven't seen you in quite awhile and thought I might come find you. What's going on out here?" She waves a paw at the business.

Shandar comes out of the vineyard munching on some grapes.

Shandar has arrived.

For those who may be wandering in soon the Moles are busy rebuilding the Forge, the brick walls are already chest high on the moles and heading higher. "Well they are rebuilding the Forge, My Kiln and the various outhouses and store rooms that gort burnt down by the ravens."

Leon walks into the yard area and looks around.

"How long is it going to take?" Amarro waves at Leon as he enters the yard. "Will they be done before the snows come?"

Benar says, "About half a season, they think they can have the forge up and running before the snows land but the others will slow down work once the snow has settled.""

Shandar comes in holding her mandolin in her arms. She surveys the moles, looking for a familiar face among them, but doesn't see who she is looking for. She gives Leon and Benar a smile, but she hasn't seen this other, older squirrel before, so she gives a shy curtsy before going to hug Benar.

Leon nods to Shandar and walks over to Benar and Amarro.

Amarro steps aside as the mouse hugs Benar and smiles at the picture that the two make. "Who is this then?" She asks with a grin, charmed by the little dibbun's curtsey.

Benar smiles at Shanda and reaches down to pick her up and hugs her, "This is Shandar, one of our dibbuns." he hugs her and turns to present her to the squirrel, "This is my mother Shandar."

Shandar gives a little wave, complete with a smile. "Hello. What's your name?" She always a little shy around new, older creatures, but Benar's mother seems very nice. She leans against Benar as he holds her.

Leon stays off to the side quietly, letting the others talk.

"My name is Amarro." Says the squirrel who executes a short, elegant bow. "It is good to meet you, Shandar. Have you lived at the abbey for very long?"

Benar exclaims, "Hello there Leon!" he waves his tail at the mouse and smiles at Shandar as she talks to Amarro, "Go on

Shandar, you can answer Amarro. She raised me since I was a tiny dibbun smaller then you and more wild!""

Shandar watches the bow with wide eyes. her first thought, as a dibbun, is: royalty. Who else knows how to bow like that? She shakes her head, and giggles at the Brother's statment. "Nice to meet you to. No, not for very long. Since a week or two, mayhap, before the big fire." She doesn't know the date she arrived. "Were you /really/ always in trouble?" she ask Benar, having trouble imagining Benar younger than her.

Leon nods "Hello Benar.." He sounds tried.

Amarro grins and winks at Benar. "Oh, he was /beyond/ trouble, Shandar. There was not a single day when I didn't have to chase him down for doing something /terrible/. He stole pies, bathed in mud, threw rocks at birds..." She shakes her head in mock shame.

Benar grins at Shandar and winks at her, "Indeed I was a terraway dibbun! I once pushed the skipper of otters into the pond"

Shandar gasps. "Did you really?" her next instinct is to ask if skipper was ok, but of course skip was ok-he got pushed into a pond, and he's an otter! She laughs. "How'd you get to be a Brother?"

Leon goes to sit over by the path, half listening to them and half not.

Amarro grins and looks over at Benar, allowing him to answer that question because she doesn't know the answer to it.

Benar grins softly, "I asked, when I was old enough and I came back from my wanderings I asked to be a Novice and they said yes. But I had grown up byu then and now My Mother has come home to live with us too... say Shandar would you like to see our tree house sometime?"

"You have a tree houses?" She's rather interested in this. One of her best dibbun friends may be a squirrel, but she's never actually seen or been in a tree house. "I'd love to! Thank you. How long are you staying, ms Amarro?"

Leon slips off quietly

Leon departs for the kitchen garden.

Leon has left.

"I'll be here for awhile I suppose." Amarro nods rather certainly. "It is nice here and Benar is here and my treehouse is close." An idea has come to mind and she looks past Shandar to Benar. "I would like to go out to visit the treehouse before the winter comes, just to see it and to make sure everything is alright. I was thinking maybe we could go next week sometime...take Shandar with us perhaps?"

Benar smiles at his mother and nods, "I'd like that, I like to keep an eye on it to check everything is ok and nothing is broken. What do you think Shandar want to come see our home?"

Shandar claps her paws together happily. "Truely? I'd like to very much!" She hugs Benar again, excited at the prospect.

Amarro grins. "It's settled then. I have some things I need to take care of here but after that we'll be free to go. It'll take about a day to get there, a day to make sure everything is alright and then another day to get back." The planning is quite easy. "We'll take some provisions from the kitchens. Are there still blankets there, Benar? Or will we need to take bedrolls?"

Benar says, "It is all fully stocked, I always keep it ready to be lived in albeit shut up," He draws a key out from a chain around his neck, "I put locks on the doors too... I go there sometimes to escape.""

Shandar looks at the key, not needing to ask to know what you would lock out of a home in the woods. But she does have a question. When doesn't she? "What do you run from when you escape to there?"

Amarro acknowledges this rather intelligent question and defers the answering of it to Benar, seeing as how he is the one who actually installed the locks.

Benar smiles at Shandar, "Sometimes I just need some time alone to myself, to get away from my duties here in the abbey and have a day of rest."

Shandar nods. She knows that Benar works hard- controlling odd and energetic dibbuns like her and Ahndia every now and then is a small part of his day, and that's enough to tire Leon in a half hour. She fiddles with one of the red cuffs on his wrists- turning it around in circles. "When're we gonna leave next week?"

Kerr has arrived.

Benar asks, "How does next monday sound?" He asks his mother and Shandar, "We can all travel up together.""

"Sounds good to me." Amarro nods. "That'll give me enough time to get things taken care of." She says vaguely. "And pull food together." The squirrel grins. "I'm looking forward to it!"

Kerr is walking by when he sees the three, and he goes over to them saying, "Hello there."

Benar slowly sets Shandar down and nods to Kerr, "Good day to you, and speaking of food I need to go talk to the Friar about tonights dinner menu. Always something else for me to do, if you will excuse me Shandar, Mother we'll have dinner tonight in my roomns if you like? Gives us time to catch up some more."

Shandar waves at the badger. "Hello. Bye Brother Benar!" She totters a little on her feet as she regains her balance. She is still trying to get used to not having the added wieght of bandages on her.

"I would love to, Benar. What time should I meet you up there?" Amarro nods to her son and prepares to head on her own way as well.

Benar asks, "Say as the sunset bells ring? That should give me time to finish up" he kisse shis mother on the cheek pets Shandar's ears and heads off with a wave to Kerr"

Kerr has made it over to them now and he now says, "Well...um, how've you two been?"

"Good. How're you?" Shandar doesn't recall the badger's name, but she knows his face.

Amarro waves at the new badger and makes her apologies to the two of them. "It has been good to meet you, Shandar and

I'm sorry that I cannot stick around longer but I must go deliver this to a fox who is not going to be very happy with me." She smiles ruefully. "I'll see you all around, yes?"

Shandar nods. "It was nice to meet you Ms Amarro. I hope it goes well. " She wonders vaguley if the fox is Flicktail, and makes a note to ask later. "Bye!"
