Clearing

This clearing is reminiscent to the meadows to the south of Redwall Abbey, yet strangely different in its unusual silence. No birds seem to banter in the trees surrounding its tall grasses on three sides. The well-traveled road to the west is barren, at the moment. Mossflower looms silently to the east, north, and south.

Leon was out getting some late summer herbs from the woods and decided to get some spices for Friar Lacota at the market while he was out. He looked over his list for the healing herbs “Let’s see I got the Agrimony, Angelica, Burdock, Comfrey, Dandelion and some Willow Bark.” He smiles and adds ”Oh yeah and some Mint for teas and flavoring for some herb mixtures.”

Sorex , a taller than average shrew, was traveling along a path, looking tried and sweating a lot from the summer heat, he pulls out a canteen and opens I for a drink and frowns, he is out of water and that’s not a good thing, he should of saved it and not used it so quickly, he sighs and rubs his head as he has had a headache the past half an hour. He decides to move on and about trips over a tree root.

Leon has yet to see the tall shrew as he is looking over a list for the spices as he comes up to the market place and a stall close to the entry has some as he walks over ”Hello sir”

At the stall is an old rabbit but they are full of energy for one so old ”Hello Brother of Redwall, what dos ya need today?”

The shrew meanwhile sits on a log just outside the entry of the market, and wipes sweat from his brow and takes a few deep breaths, this heat is getting to him.

Leon smiles “I need Nutmeg, Paprika, Cayenne and if you could a second pouch of it grounded finer as it’s good for slowing bleeding on some wounds, and let’s see also some Turmeric, Mace and some salt and pepper that’s all”

The rabbit goes about getting what is needed and mentions a fair price with the order beast and smiles “Have a good day now ya hear”

Leon waves and heads on back to the path to the road and then towards the abbey.

Sorex stops him before he gets too far” S..Sir……”He then gets no other words out as he passes out and falls to the forest floor, his breathing is a slight bit troubled and he looks to be effected by the heat.

Leon gasps and quickly bends down to look the shrew over, take a pulse and check his breathing. He gets some of his own water and wets a cloth to dampen the shrew’s forehead, he carefully gets the shrew into some nearby shade and sits down beside him as not too much to do but wait till he wakes.

Sorex wakes after an hour has passed and groans, he senses some beast near and a first reaction is the paw on his raspier

Leon speaks “Calm yourself I am a beast of Redwall..here drink” He offers some water from the canteen and watches the shrew ”You passed out sir. My name is Brother Leon I am Master Healer of Redwall Abbey”

Sorex relaxes and gladly drinks some water and coughs, he nods “Thanks..I am Sorex Wildfur..me…”He frowns “Well just me thanks to a pack of foul vermin, me wife, daughter and her newborn, all dead…my daughters mate died in a fight, 3 rats and a weasel…one rat maid just stayed outside the house, she was the one that broke into the ..the hut I know it..I…”

Leon frowns “I am sorry to hear that, I know there was some vermin problems not too long ago and sometimes vermin will rob others along the road or homes in the woods, you are welcome to come to the abbey with me and get a good meal, rest some and I can see if the abbot can give you some supplies if you don’t want to stay long”

The shrew sips a little more water and again speaks “I..saw the rat maid a couple weeks ago near the bridge…I seek her out, to slay her and make her pay for her crimes”

Leon just listens “Well, I say we head to the abbey then so you can rest up, the heat may of gotten to you a little too much and rest, some water and a good meal will do wonders” He goes to lead the way back to the abbey.” When we get there your need to give your weapon to the guard, no weapons in the abbey are allowed”

Sorex frowns at this but nods “Fine, I suppose it’s for safety or something?” He is feeling better than he was earlier but still tried

Leon answers “The abbey is a place of peace, not war..we have no fighting force and only a paw full of beasts to act as watchers to watch from the walls or by the gates to report to the Champion if anything looks out of place and he checks it out. Very very few beats have proper fighting skills, yes some have a little self-defense but there is no training of fighters at the abbey, as again we are a place of peace and frown on fighting, we frown on weapons and unless the abbey is under siege our forge makes no amour or weapons or repairs them and as of right now we have no full time blacksmith”

The shrew just nods and keeps any thoughts of the place he has to himself.

Leon then leads the way to the abbey

RW Abbey: Entry

The raging fireball in the great bowl of the sky as well as the constant, sweltering heat that refuses stubbornly to ease even during the odd hours of the night herald the arrival of summer. You stand on a grassy sward between two cottages. To the south you see a small, calm pond. To the north lies an open space where the Abbey has its feasts in the warmer seasons. To the east is the Great Hall, a massive structure that rises far above the abbey walls and is completed with large towers that pierce upwards into the sky. The main building is adorned with a large, iron banded door that would allow one into the Great Hall. During the day, blinding golden lights washes over this humble clearing. In retaliation, the massive building, coated in a faded crimson soars towards the skies, its huge size offering valuable shade.

Flowers are in full bloom, brilliantly colored petals revealing to the Abbeybeasts in a loud, flamboyant fashion their sheer joy for living as well as their animated spirits. Luscious greens sweep the area in a subtler beauty, enhancing the vibrancy of the flora. Soft grasses cushion your footpaws, and from time to time a gentle breeze will caress through to shift the blades of grass and the small layer of dust. Though small in area, and humble compared to the other regions of the Abbey, it is quite clear that everything in this small clearing is bursting with life and at their prime; all have been touched by summer's grace. !!--!Summer is here!--!!

Leon leads the shrew inside nods to a couple mice and a squirrel in the entry, as well as a couple of the novice healers on what herbs he has from the woods.

Sorex follows, he seems like he rather not give his weapon to the guard but he does and looks around "So...Redwall Abbey, hiw intresteing"

Leon nods "I need to drop off some spices to our Friar and some healing herbs to the infirm, you can head inside or look around. I will let someone know we have a guest" He excuses himself and heads off.
