Adventure Tales - To Slay a Dragon Part 5

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

Something can be heard flapping its wings high above the village, like one giant eagle. The night sky however is cloudy, making it hard to discern. "Derean look! Up in the sky! Is that a bird? A hand glider?" Dale points with his sword and peers at the object coming closer and closer, his eyes widen with shock, completely unbelieving what he is seeing right in front of him, "No! Holy...it's a bleedin-"

And in the next moment the fox is gone, carried off towards the mountains by a giant flying impossible creature.

Carried off in the claws of a Dragon!

Disclaimer! This is an OOC story, out of character. Nothing in the story pertains to anything that happens in the ic grid.

Four days have passed since their arrival to Dragon Claw Village. Four days of feasting, dancing, and partying that would put any tribal horde to shame. Rioko peered out the window of her second story room. The villagers below had assembled on the last day of the festival in the town square. The streets were packed with hares dressed in costumes, bead garments and red body paint. Behind Rioko there was a loud groan on one of the two small but surprisingly soft beds.

A beast of the feast Sibyl had engorged herself past the point of bursting...at each meal, over the course of the last half week. The poor lizard lays sprawled out across the bed, belly swollen and threatening to crush her under its weight. One could only imagine what the lizard would have looked like if the party had arrived at the /beginning/ of the festival. Rioko cringed as she gave her own grumbling tummy a pat. The lizard wasn't the only one starting to look a little thick from the constant food, drink, and pie eating contests. Rioko always dreamed of a soft comfortable life...now that she had it the vixen realizes it doesn't suit her too well.

Fortunately for Rorgan, Derrin and Toran, they had decided that it was in their best interest to keep their eating to a minimum, even if it had meant denying mouthwatering plates of food of every variety that they could imagine. "Wonder how Derean an' Dale are doin'," remarks Derrin, laying on one of the beds. Rorgan had elected that Toran take the other bed, so instead, he was left on the ground of the room. At present, he wasn't laying down, which left the blanket and pillow on the ground as he and Toran both looked out the window at the festival. "I have no idea Derrin, but they need to recover soon," replies Toran. "We don't have much time before Radion catches up."

Rioko watched as the last embers of the sun died behind the mountains. As the sun set torches where lit around the village. Dancing and signing and the sound of fiddles being played could be heard even from here. "So Sibyl, up for one more night of fun before we go get our treasure?" The fox passed a glance towards the bloated lizard on the bed who just moaned. Rolling her eyes at their gluttonous guide the fox left the room. )

Striding across the hallway, Rioko opened the door to Rorgan's room with out knocking, "Hey guys! One last day of vacation left, who wants to have some fun!"

Meanwhile in the healers home next door Dale silently cursed his ill fortune. The room was small, with a homely feel. There were several shelves with nicknacks lining the walls. Dale sat in one cot looking out at window watching the festivities that he didn't have energy to participate in.

Derean really can't be assumed to be in better shape. He too is sitting on his own cot. The healers had done good work on him, and now there is only one bandage around his head that is simply meant to cover his eye, which leaves his grisly scar open to display, running diagonally up one side of his muzzle and across his face, disappearing for a bit under his bandage before coming out on the opposite side, eventually thinning out into nothing. He still has not said a word to anybeast since he arrived, and he isn't about to. Meanwhile, the three males in the room back at the inn all turn around to look at Rioko as she enters. "Fun?" Asks Rorgan. "Wot kind o' fun are we talkin' about here?"

Flailing her arms in the air the vixen shouts, "Fun! The type of fun where we don't waste a good party sitting here in the inn!" She gestures for the three beasts to follow her. "Come on guys, let's stop worry about Derean and Dale and go party. What's the worst that can-"

The distant roar chooses to return at that moment. It is far off and echo's in the small valley but it is clear that what ever is making that noise is fast approaching. The moonlight in the window darkens for a brief moment.

The three males turn to look at the window again, though this requires Derrin to get up off the bed to look as well. "Wot in Freya's name is that..." Wonders Rorgan aloud, though his heart quickly begins to beat faster with dread at an unknown threat that could apparently stop an entire festival with its roar. In the healing home, Derean's good eye widens at the roar, which is distant but very audible, and he hops off of his cot, beginning to search around for his daggers.

Dale says something simular although not quite as repeatable. With a grunt of effort and pain the wounded golden fox leaps down onto the floor. He grabs his sword, which had been hanging on his bed post, and throws open the door of the healers hut. The hares are gone, just gone. The streets are laid bare and empty, plates of food and costume peices have been left discarded across the ground. It looks like there was some sort of event going on at teh town square. The stone work stage has several planters of flowers and ribbons tied around it, but even that is deserted. The fox begins to call out to the healer but remembers that he was in the party too.

Dale doesn't like this, not one bit.

Rioko meanwhile growls. Leaving the beasts where they are she marches back into her room. "What's going on? Why did the music stop?" Sibyl asks. Rioko though simply ignores her, grabbing her Helbard she says to the bloated lizard as she leaves for the hallway, "Stay here and keep your head down. But be ready to move."

The sounds of the festival outside have stopped...

Something can be heard flapping its wings high above the village, like one giant eagle. The night sky however is cloudy, making it hard to discern. "Derean look! Up in the sky! Is that a bird? Carried off in the claws of a Dragon!

Rorgan is already out in the hallway along with Derrin and Toran, all of whom are ready to fight whatever may be coming, and Rorgan letting out a string of curses as his racing mind tries to figure out what exactly might have happened. "Buinneachn..." Is the last one to be said, and the otter falls silent, waiting for Rioko. Meanwhile, Derean follows Dale rather quickly out of the house once he locates his daggers, and he quickly scans the area, being a little confused that nothing has happened yet.

Eyes wide, Derean can hardly understand what exactly he had just seen himself, and he stumbles back, hitting the ground as he stares at the spot where he had just seen Dale only a few moments before. It is at that helpful moment that Rorgan, Toran and Derrin all come rushing out of the inn, Rorgan with his bow ready, Derrin with twin daggers borrowed from Rorgan, and Toran with his own set of daggers ready. Almost instantly, Rorgan catches sight of Derean, and he runs over to the other otter, dropping his bow and crouching to assist his shocked friend. "Derean, are you alright?!" He demands. "Where's Dale?! Wot happened?!" It is at that moment that Derean choses to speak, which is certainly a rare thing. "Dragon.." Is his only word before he starts trembling, terrified of what he had just seen.

Rioko scoffs at the otter, "What are you talkin about! There are no such things!" The fox glances up towards the sky towards the mountain, "Are there?" She shakes her head. There are no feathers around the spot Dale was taken and no foot prints either, it's like the fox just vanished. "Blazes...we don't have time for this. I can't afford to lose another employer, its bad on my resume." Her weapon resting on her shoulder she leas forward towards Derean. "Which way did this 'dragon' take em?"

The otter slowly shakes his head, pointing off towards the mountains on the eastern side. Rorgan follows the line from Derean to the section of the mountains declared as their destination, and his eyes widen. "Wait..Sibyl mentioned that a cave with an entrance in the shape of a dragon was our destination, so what if the dragon took Dale that way?" For his part, Rorgan was willing to believe that Derean hadn't just been seeing things, as was Derrin, but Toran isn't as inclined to believe something like that, but he imagined that he would have a chance to find out when they got to their destination.

Rioko nods, "Dragon or no dragon, what are we waiting for? Let's get moving." With out another word the fox turns for the eastern path, towards the mountains. Rioko has the nagging feeling that she is forgetting something important...meanwhile the Sibyl rests easily on her bed. A half week of gorging has taken their toll but the feast was so worth it. Danger or no danger the lizard begins to drift off into sleep...right as the door to her bedroom opens...

The road turned out to be a rather easy climb. It was well paved with gravel. The trees dissapeared as the party made their way up the mountain side. The landscape was misty at best with several rocks breaking the short grass on the mountains around them. The entrance of the cave lays ahead, but is obscured by the mist. From here it looks like a giant maw sticking up out of the earth.

The three otters and the fox make their way along the path, but stop when they sight the entrance of the cave. Rorgan sighs and turns to Rioko. "Well, if there's a dragon, it'll be in there, so how should we go about doin' this?" He asks while the other three decide to sit on the ground, coping with the idea of a dragon in their own way.The three otters and the fox make their way along the path, but stop when they sight the entrance of the cave. The fox holds up her paw signaling them to wait. "Hold up...do you guys see that?" She squints at the cave ahead. As she waits the mist lifts slightly, revealing a anomaly on the mountain side. There are two poles sticking out of the earth, a thick rope is tied from each pole to the wrists of the beast sitting between them. It is by far the largest, fattest vulpine Rioko has ever seen. Even with his bonds forcing him to stand on his hind paws the grey furred fox's stomach bulges outward, easily resting on the ground before him. Surrounding the gorged fox is a large pile of fruits, veggies, and fish. Kydo Vannon the bandit looks up with pleading eyes towards the group.
