Halyard Village: Tents

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Halyard Village ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

All along one side of the square, a rag tag of tent structures have been

erected. Great red stripes have been painted on a few of them to indicate

their purpose as providers of aid during this unfortunate time in Halyard's

history. The main two tents are large, temporary cots have been erected in

long rows for the injured or for those who simply need somewhere to sleep.

Crates and barrels have brought in with food and drink, all bearing the stamp

of the Long Patrol on their sides. At any given time you're likely to run

into one of the healers from the Long Patrol, tending to the sick or wounded.

                               Visible Exits:

[Sq]uare

Early afternoon, just after Lunch and another deliver from Salamandastron is arriving, medical supplies it would seem. Two carts being pulled by recruits laden down with fresh herbs and sundries for mixing poultices and the like. Quinten is with them, the recorder helping the pull the carts along manourivering them into position before pulling out a sheath of notes and looking about for whichever healer is in charge right now.

Nominally that is Rah but at the moment who can tell? The major is taking a break, sat on a water-darkened barrel outside the center cluster of tents. He looks damp and weary and huffs out a little sigh, his eyes turning up to watch the approach of the carts.

Taye is not the healer on duty! Mostly because he's not a healer, eh? Rather the buck has taken up one of the cots. He's been passed out in an exhausted sleep since his arrival the night before. Now he stirs a bit, the wheels of the cart squeaking in an irritating fashion. His ears flicker and he groans, one paw grabbing at his pillow and shoving it over his head to block out the noise.

Quinten eyes his jacket/tunic, the recorder having taken it off whilst working out with the pulling of the cart and all that. He sighs and shrugs back into it, lacing it up. Wouldn't do to bother the Major not properly dressed. He then snags his notes and hops it over to Rahier and salutes. "Sir, that runner patrol I mentioned to the colonel the other day got back. I brought the medicinal supplies straight up, where do you want them?" Of course Taye is here, he had a little building-related accident, didn't he? Well. Rah stands on up when Quinten comes bounding over and returns the salute, sparing a quick smile for the recorder.

"Impressed y'managed t'get carts up here," he says. "Um. We have a coupla empty tents, y'can load 'em all in those." He indicates the trio of tents by waving his paw. "Anywhere dry y'can find."

Now he's awake, though, Taye's not likely to be getting back to sleep any time soon. With another groan he lifts the pillow and slowly, with a grimace, rolls over to the side of the bed, swinging his legs over the edge. He sits up slowly, rubbing at his back and neck. His squinted eyes settle on Rah and Quinten. He pushes up and kind of hobbles over, with the overnight stiffness of a good bruising. "... feels like I had a bloody house dropped on me," he mutters to the other two as he nears. "Supplies?"

Quinten nods to Rahier and turns to the recruits and gives them orders to start unloading into an empty tent. He watches them for a bit then glances at Rahier. "It wasn't easier, but we cleared a path the first time I came up here. BEen shuttling supplies back and forth for a few days." he looks at his notes. "We also have three kegs of brandy, two kegs of scotch and all the bandages we could pack in around it." He looks at Taye and waves, "Hello Taye... you doing ok?"

Rahier gingerly rests his arm around Taye's shoulder and pulls him in a little, giving his boy a hug. "'Cause y'did," Rah says, clearly happy that Taye was not thoroughly squished. Or that he was, but popped back into his original shape, more or less. "Thanks Quinten," Rah continues, now sounding relieved. "We've been hard up."

Taye tolerates the hug with a small wince and a sideways glance at his dad. At least it wasn't a head ruffle, eh? "Yeah, I'm all righ'," he assures Quinten with a brief grin. To Rah, though, he asks, "Is there anything I c'n do?"

Quinten watches the unloading and nods to the recruits, "Glad to help Rahier, I only have basic healer training but I've been doing what I can to help and keep the supply train in order." He glances at his notes, "Oh team of Moles is having a look at the well in the East Square but they don't sound hopeful, they say alot of sea-water got into it so it probably needs to be redug." He lifts a sheet and peers, "Also have a robin at the mountain offering to take messages if we want to summon aid from elsewhere...." he nods and glances at Taye, "Glad to hear it Taye, not seen you in awhile."

No headruffles for awhile. Well, at least a day. We'll see after that. His arm returns to his side and he tilts his head to Taye, hmming. Normally of course he would restrict Taye to bed, but, he knows the runner and they could all use the help. "'M sure we could find somethin' t'make y' useful," he says, and then looks to Quinten with a frown. "We'll need th'water."

"There's the othah well down the northern road we've still got," Taye offers. "Think it was still in workin' ordah. Folks down that stretch remembahed t'cap it ovah 'fore the storm came through." He nods his thanks to Rah, then, mostly for not giving into his desire to baby him. XD

The recorder nods his head, "I know... but the well is Wrecked, the moles say it will take days to dig a new one and there is more important work to do." He glances at Taye and nods his head, "I've ordered more barrels filled with water I should have a shipment up here by tonight, it should help supplement the limited supply from having one well out of action."

The desire is very strong. That's how these things go. "Even if we getcha washin' linens," Rah says, with a little cackle. Ah, well. The buck grunts to Quinten. "Plenty of barrels around t'do that," he says. Like the one he was just sitting on. "It'll help."

Taye rolls his eyes at Rahier's little taunt, giving is dad an amused smirk. "Yeah, yeah." Mostly he just listens between the pair. He's been out of the loop the last 24 hours, so he's got to catch up. "I could help on the well repair," he suggests. "The folks live along that stretch'll need it workin'. I c'n at least see what if anything the moles need." Rah gets a glance. "... that /doesn't/ include clean linens." Grump.

Quinten nods to Taye, "Well the moles are down looking at their options, I'm sure they'd appreciate the help but there is alot of rubble as well." He nods to Rahier, "I wish I had a boat, shipping water barrels over the sand is difficult. I should have kept hold of that hare. Young lad, left the Patrol to go a sailing, Roscuro that's his name, He'd be really useful about now with a working boat."

Immediately, Taye pipes up with a sudden grin, "Sidney has a little skiff, think it needs a coupla repairs but m'sure he'd be willin' t'offah it up."

Ah, if you can't prod what can you do? Rah just gives Taye a grin in return, and then hmmms. "Big boats migh' have a bit o' trouble with th'state o' th'docks." His ear turns to Taye. "That migh' be a bit better, hm?"

Quinten nods his head to Taye, "Then tell Sidney I'm requisitioning him and his skiff. I need them on the beach outside of Salamandastron by tomorrow morning. If he needs help with repairs tell him to commander some of the villagers to help it's top priority to get a decent supply chain that is faster then hauling carts over the sand." He stops and his ears twitch and he glances at Rahier. "Actually I don't think I can requisition him but I'm sure the Major won't object."

Rahier shrugs his shoulders. "Got no objection from me.. I think he's 'round here somewhere, got beat up like Taye did in th'collapse. Should be able t'talk t'him." His eyes turn to Taye. "Know where Sidney is?"

Yeah, Taye's eyebrows were kind of raising a bit, there. "I think he's in one'a the othah tents... but I don't think anyone ought t'be requisitionin' him." And he gives Quinten a bit of a. Glance. "Officah or not. He needs t'rest. Someone could /ask/ the lieutenant 'bout his boat, m'sure."

"Oh.. i didn't know they where injured. Thanks for telling me about that. I'll go hunt him down and ask if I can borrow it. I'll steal an otter or two and get them to help me sail it back and forth." He nods to Taye, "I'm not dragging injured beasts off to sail boats, didn't realise he was hurt. I'll go ask him now if he is awake."

"'Bout as much as y'need t'rest," Rah says, verbally prodding at Taye. But then his eyes cast back to the recorder and he nods. "Go'n see, 'm sure he'll be amenable t' it. Jus' let him rest if he's asleep." His grin quirks sideways.

"M'just a little bruised," Taye mutters. But he gives Rah a glance of thanks at the accommodation for Sid's need of rest. Ahem. He nods to Quinten, then. "It's a good little boat. Just be bloody careful with it. That thing's his baby."

Quinten salutes Taye and Rahier, "I won't let any harm befall his boat. It's a nugget of gold right now if I can use it instead of dragging stuff over the sand. I'll go see if he is awake now." He adjusts his jacket and hops off to go see a hare about a boat.
