Well That Will Need Fixed
RW Abbey: Kitchen Yard
Boasting a decent view of the Abbey's orchards and gardens, this
space is mostly a work area, displaying well trampled grass and the
occasional bare spot. An especially worn spot is the path that leads
between the kitchen gardens and the vineyards.
From one end of the kitchen yard to the other, the space is nearly
filled by the tremendous gnarled trunk of an ancient apple tree,
roots and branches and boughs trimmed off and piled alongside for
later use. A deep groove of mud-churned sod and torn grass leads
back to the orchard, from where the fallen tree must have come.
There are also a variety of workshops around the edge of the yard,
the wood-shop, the cooper for making barrels. The small smithy
where the abbey's tools are made, the potters kiln and the brewery.

Silverstorm is working on something in the forge, some hinges for a crib maybe latter on for Rayen, and she lays these aside and goes to fixing a couple shovels. She is tried and has done as she usually does and pays attention to the billows, the fire and the tools but the forge is old still and sometimes it doesn’t always behave and sometimes it needs repairs off and on and today may be a sign one is needed here soon.
Zork is heading towards the forge in his wheelchair, he makes a habit to check on her and the forge, he hasn’t checked the forge lately for a few weeks as he wheels closer he calls out "Silverstorm..lass ya doing ok thar?!"
Silverstorm glances up and nods from where she is and pounds into shape a soon to be shovel, this one for helping in the grounds for planting and weeding and she has just finished making a hoe as well, she waits till he is closer before she speaks "Just finishing a couple tools for the garden and crop work that need made."
Zork nods "Just know ta be careful lass" He says as he is closer now, “is still dangers if ya not careful"
Silverstorm nods "Yeah..I know" She frowns as some steam floods the area "That..happen earlier, it like de forge is not happy today sir" She should step back but instead she goes to fiddle with a lever valve that controls the amount of pressure as well as the fire and control of that is VERY important, who knew a small tiny piece of metal could cause so much trouble when it has started to mess up. It can be repaired but based on how bad it is or ends up can be a good lead on how long such a repair is.
Zork frowns, he has seen this sort of thing before and goes to quickly wheel over, "Move!" He then goes to try and stop the pressure from building too much, there is a way to close it when this happens but it seems stuck and this only makes him frown more, his strength being gone is not good at this time and he can't do too much sitting down. He goes to stand but is shaky on his footpaws.
Silverstorm backs up and frowns "What goin' on.." she gasps and goes to try and help him before something happens.
The pressure buildup slows some but the valve is also starting to get pretty hot It does start to close as its needed and it slows the steam and danger of fire, but there is still a little too much and it causes a slight push of buildup power, enough to knock one back a few feet even, a covering falls off, very easily repaired but that’s not the issue...the issue is that fire needs put out as no covering means it can get out of control easily and that still needs turned off , not just 3/4 of the way off.
Zork grunts as he falls backwards a couple feet and lands onto his back, he luckily isn’t hurt much just a bruised elbow and sore back somewhat"Owwww....vaule..still on, and get water to put out fire too." Well he won’t be too helpful right now as he will need help up.
Silverstorm frowns as she goes to try and turn the , valve it slowly turns the way off and she starts to have some pain shoot threw her paw as its burned some now.
Luckily Zinnia is around and goes to pull her back before she falls and has a couple guards use the water from the tub to get the fire out. She looks at Silverstorm and also Zork "What happen..are you ok?"
Zork gets up slowly into a sitting position. There is a lot of steam and smoke as the fire is put out after some bucket full of water. The fire only got onto the floor some and made some burn marks, he nods slowly "Luckily..this needs repaired before ANY beast goes near it and only I know how ta repair that valve. Silverstorm can help repair the covering to thar...after it cools and that will take a while."
Silverstorm frowns, she pants and sits on the ground shaking some as that scared her, she looks at her left paw. she had it under her right when was on that valve and its burnt pretty good, "My paw...is injured."
Zinnia quickly goes to help her father up, "Papa..are you ok? Are you in pain? What were you doing?"
Leon makes his way to the kitchen yard and frowns, he was told a couple guards went over here and he first checks Silverstorm's paw and then looks over to Zork. “What happen?"
Zork smiles at the help up and answers Leon, "De valve that controls pressure fer de fire be messed up, a tiny piece needs replaced, I know how ta get a piece, also needs cleaned some. De covering, more easily fixed, needs placed back on..new hinges that can be made elsewhere if be needed..Ferravale maybe, it could of been a lot worse that it was, trust me." He allows help back to his wheelchair as he goes to stand and lean on Zinnia a little. He seems ok, tried maybe but ok. His elbow is bruised and his back may have some soreness a few days. Other wise no major rise in heart rate or breathing problems. “How be Silverstorm?"
Silverstorm paw is not as bad burned as it could be, but it’s still a good burn on the palm of her paw. But she luckily had a thick glove on, like an oven mit sort of , that blacksmiths use but its burn threw and...yeah need a new glove, a little of the glove cotton is stuck on her palm, but it can easily be gently brushed off, the glove did indeed save her paw.
Leon looks the paw over "It could of been a lot worse" He gently takes a cloth and gets the left over cotton off and applies some aloe and another herb to fight possible infection, burn and swelling and wraps it up tightly, "It’s still useable but it needs to stay bandaged a few days and checked a lot for infection " He then checks Zork pulse and watches him, he speaks "And you need to have a good day of just bed rest, and I mean it as this could of been a lot worse for YOU as well Zork."
Zinnia stays close by "Is..papa ok Brother Leon?"
Zork sighs "I were only trying ta close de .. valve then silverstorm she helped, de pressure buildup threw me back a little, but I am fine" His pulse is slightly up but his breathing is ok. "Me back is a little sore now and my elbow hurts, I have had a lot worse than this Leon. But yes I will rest in bed a day, ok?" He smiles at Zinnia and goes to hug her "I am fine lass...no worries , takes a lot more than this ta lose me"
Silverstorm nods as she lets her paw be bandaged "Ok?..So how long till de forge can be used..and how do we know what parts be a needed'
Leon seems pleased they will listen to him, but he shrugs at the forge issue, "Then whats rally needed right now and it may be wise to not work a forge too much in the summer heat." He turns to Zork, "And you best not be trying to fix it in the summer heat, besides are you even able to fix it. you can’t stand Zork"
Zork speaks, "I don’t need ta stand ta look at de part, or ta take it out and have it placed back in...Silverstorm can even help clean de area of the valve and maybe get the part I need, see ya need the old part first and then cleaning and placing it is and making sure it’s all repaired good and all, ta last seasons and seasons, and I would only do wot I can in de evening hours, like right before dinner, maybe after...most is sitting down, I can make me chair lift up a little to get ta de area to repair, so would still be sitting. Let’s see part made..maybe 2 weeks, cleaned and checked..few days and placed in and made sure works...another week so not long at all. Maybe little under 3 weeks to make sure all is good and ready, tis forge is a little old so a good tune up is in order as well, then it be good as new again by end of summer or beginning fall maybe...maybe sooner”
Silverstorm listens "I..am gonna go ta me room...good day" She walks off leaving the two badgers and healer
Zinnia watches her go and looks at her father, she is a little worried "Are you sure no one else can help with this, I mean once it comes time to replace the part in the forge and the tune up and check of things to make sure it’s working ok"
Leon frowns, he doesn’t seem happy "Zork, you may want to get some beast else to do this, I am sure there is some beast else"
Zork shakes his head "No..I may be in a wheelchair but I also the only one that can do this, I will let Silverstorm help where she can and watch me, that way in case and hopefully not for seasons, de forge needs repairs again she will know wot ta do..tis a simple repair Leon, just a part replacement and simple make sure all is well with de forge, tis could be important one day. Silverstorm does very well and I am proud of her, she should be made a sister in de order soon...and wot happen taday were caught early and that’s good I say. Could of been worse and it were not. Ya have ta do repairs and tune-ups correctly or it causes more problems ya don’t want, forges can explode even, Luckily this didn’t happen today but it could have if de trouble was not spotted right when it started. Could of been a couple hours later but it would of cause major repairs to need done, this is minor compared ta that and ...well minor anyways." He goes to get a couple tools and takes the valve apart and looks at the couple small parts and hmms, he wheels over to the work bench and nods "See...4 simple parts..couple pins and I know de size of other parts and thickness." He looks over a blueprint in a drawer and jots down some things with a charcoal piece onto a scroll. He finds a small pouch and places the parts into it with the scroll “Thar...we get new parts and I place them on and do a tune up of de forge.." He pulses and adds "With Silverstorm helping where needed, like said she can learn that way for later needs"
Zinnia stays beside Zork.."Papa" she says softly, "Don’t do something that would make you over stress yourself, be careful please"
Zork smiles as he nods "I will me dear"
Leon sighs, "Fine...since you’re the only one right now who can do it correctly, and if Silverstorm helps as you said it’s a good lesson for the future. She will take over as Blacksmith for the abbey I know that but...and not saying this to sound mean but rather it be later than sooner, I like to see you be around as long as possible Zork"
Zinnia hugs her father and kisses his cheek “I need to get to the library papa...go rest ok, Like Brother Leon said." She then heads off to the library, recorder duties and all.
Zork nods as he returns the hug "Ya worry too much lass, I feel fine right now and yes I will rest and take it easy promise." He watches as she heads out of sight and then turns to Leon, “And I spoke the truth I am fine right now, earlier I had a small bit of chest pain but it passed after a couple minutes. I will drink a little stronger d dose of tea..now I am heading ta me room ta rest"
Zork makes sure the forge has cooled before he heads to his room.
Leon starts to say something else and just sighs, he then heads to the gatehouse, he needs a nap himself as he now has a headache..great.
