Welcome to Arundal

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

Henri the otter leads Rorgan and Derrin through Beggar's Pass to a village called Arundal. Perhaps here they will learn clues of where their parents are.

Morning comes early the next day. The weather is less than pleasent with a small drizzle of rain coming down. The rain doesn't let up but it doesn't get worse eather. Occasionally there is a small thunderclap across the woods. Henri and his daughter take the lead down the road leading poor vannon by a rope bound to his hand paws. Occasionally the fox will whimper and whine, especially when they pass the black gull. The scent of tasty food makes the half famished fox nearly go mad as they walk by.

With the Gull out of sight around the next bend Henri calls the party to stop. Pointing to a side path that leads east the old otter states plainly, "From here we head east into the forrest. We are heading to a village called Arundal. It's about a half a days march from here through Beggar's Pass."

You say, "Sounds fun." Vannon says cheerfully until Elesi grabs him by the snout and pulls him close, "Oh no, you are coming with me up north to tussock. And if you think it will be easier for you to escape with out the rest of the party just remember that I only need to deliver your pelt foxy."

Rorgan and Derrin nod as Henri tells them of the path. "An' you think somebeast in Arundal might know where our parents were taken, or where the vermin might've gone?" Asks Derrin, who is tightening the wraps on his paws a little more in preparation of any fighting they may have to do. Rorgan, for his part, has nothing to adjust as he considers his equipment ready. Instead, he contents himself with thinking about what would happen if his parents really were alive.

Vannon only whimpers as Elesi lets him go. To Rorgan and Derrin she says, "Well it was the place the vermin used to live." Henri nods, adjusting the cross bow strapped across his shoulder and the saber at his hip. "When the vermin were run off they scattered about, forming smaller tribes and communities in the woods surrounding the village...those who survived at least. A few still come in to trade every now and again with Arundal." THe otter begins to walk down the path to the east, "Plus, I have business there..."

Derrin raises an eyebrow at the last statement, but follows along behind Henri without a second thought, as does Rorgan. "Have fun with that fox Elisi," Calls Rorgan, flashing a smile to the other otter before turning back to follow Henri.

Vannon watches them leave. After they are gone and out of ear shot the vulpine gives elesi a cross look. "Now that they are gone, where are you /really/ taking me?" Elesi turns to Vannon before they press on and shoots him a confused look. "It's rather hard to get a bounty on my head from a place that I have never been too." The young otter replies with a shrewd smile before tugging on the rope and pulling the fox along. "Oh don't you worry...it's gonna be a surprise..."

The next several hours are spent traversing the woodland path. The rain is gone but the mud makes travel less than favorable. By the time the party reaches the begining of Beggar's Pass the noon day sun is blotted out by light grey clouds as far as the eye can see.

Derrin and Rorgan continue on sturdily, never once giving a word of complaint, though they did talk among themselves excitedly in anticipation of the possibility of seeing their parents, which is someting they hadn't been expecting to happen in their lives.

The elderly otter just smirks at such talk but doesn't enter it. He seems lost in thought as they traverse the pass. going deeper into the valley past the 'known' enterence towards the ruins Rorgan once entered. The river in the valley below grows deeper and wider, the hill sides steeper until they come to a fork in the road. Henri gestures to the path leading up the hillside, "Almost there boys, just up the hill now."

At that revalation, the twins burst into a sprint, all thoughts now on their parents. In a very short amount of time, they reach the top of the hill, looking down on whatever is below on the other side with a mixture of excitement and anticipation. "Rorgan..." Says Derrin. The otter looks over questioningly. "Yes Derrin?" He asks, only to let out a surprised grunt as his brother embraces him in a tight hug, which he very quickly returns. "I'm glad yore my brother," says Derrin quietly, having realized they hadn't really said anything about it after finding out from Henri.

At the top of the hill is a forrested area where a multi level village awaits. It is a small village but is built into the hill side and ontop of a small platu. A river runs through the village and over a small waterfall that feeds into the valley. A mill has been placed on the edge of the waterfall. The building here are made country style, made to survive high winds. Woodlanders move about the market place along with the occasional vermin species

The old otter arrives behind them, admittedly slower. He thrusts out his paw and declares, "Welcome to...Arundal."

Both otters break their hug to stare at the sight happily, both beaming widely as they look. "Alright, let's go find our parents!" Says Rorgan excitedly before continuing on along with Derrin towards the village. "Come on Henri!" Shouts Derrin as he goes.

Henri continues at a leasurly pace. Pausing to look out over the landscape the otter gives the village a crooked yellow toothed grin. It's good to be back in Arundal, whether Arundal wan'ts him back or not.
