Halyard Village: Fishery

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Halyard Village ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The fishery of Halyard Village... smells like fish! COnnected to the dock,

the fishery has an open-air market feel to it. Wooden planking beneath your

feet creates the floor and the sky the ceiling. The preparation area, where

the ifsh are gutted and prepared and packaged for sale, is littered with

Various carts and sorting tables, which have various implements setting on

top of them or stabbed into them, in the case of the gutting knives.

Meanwhile, the area of the fishery where the fish is actually sold is a good

deal cleaner, but no less fishy. This is the area furthest from the water, a

covered strip of wooden planking where tables are set up. During peak hours

each day, the tables are covered in pounds and pounds of fish, just waiting

to be spirited away by some lucky buyer.

[D]ock

Mice: Leon, male.

Badgers: Zinnia, female.

Hares: Felicity, female.

Hedgehogs: Stonepaw, male.

Various spoofed spoofs.

Zinnia decided to head out to the docks, not having luck yet they came to the other end of the dock near the fishery area. She sighs "I need better practice with this I think. I mean we don't need a large boat, and not one too small either. Just one thats ok enough for 2 mice, and like a couple badgers and one is a dibbun and I am not as tall as some could get."

Leon looks around "Well, I am sure we can find someone willing to go to Mossflower...it's a 4 day trip Quinten said to the bridge on north path"

Stonepaw is on his own boat, he is usually away from the other boats when he is here and he is not here very often as he likes to keep to himself. He has a fairly good size houseboat, but hey it float and it works so there.

Zinnia sighs and walks up to one of the boats, not the hedgehog's just yet, this one has a ferret captain and is a little larger, "Umm...excuse me?" The ferret stares at the badger and folds his arms over his chest," I don'ts serve woodlanders stripedog..." Zinnia frowns at this remark, "No need to be rude sir..." The ferret grins "Why...stripedog?" Yeah he is looking for a good punch in the nose.

Felicity decided to accompany the Abbey Ambassadors, but she's really no help when it comes to picking out a boat. "I'm sure you'll find somebeast," she says quietly as the badger approaches the ferret. "oh, bothah," she grumbles. She has her shortsword and sling and stones with her. She steps forward, hoping the Long Patrol uniform she's wearing will make the ferret be nice! "'Cause I'm 'ere, Mistah Stripy Bonce. C'mon, Miss Zinnia, let's try a different beastie, wot!"

Leon frowns, its clear he rather avoid a fight if they can, "Yes lets go elsewhere there is still more boats...right?"

Stonepaw has watched and caught some of this as he walks over and taps the ferret on the shoulder, the ferret turns around "Oh it's the hedgepi----" And a fist stops any further words as he drops backwards into a cart of rotten fish and the fish pile on top of the ferret and the old hedgehog smirks as he looks to the other beasts, "Been wantta do that all day mates that ferret been a jerk to too many beasts today"

Zinnia blinks as she steps back a little and frowns as she looks around, no one seems to care if the ferret is under some fish, I mean snout is free so he can breath, "Ummmm...." She is unsure whether to thank him or not, "Yeah we are just trying to find a boat to Mossflower, as far as this bridge by a path going north and south, think 4 days to get there from the dock here."

The haremaid smiles in a friendly and respectful way. "Well, I'm glad ya socked 'im for us, wot! And a jolly good shot it was, too! My name's Felicity," she holds out a paw. She decides to let the badger and the mouse handle getting a boat to take them back to Mossflower country.

Leon watches as the ferret is knocked out cold and looks to see if any beast is going to be upset with this and when no one is he decides the ferret is fine. Yes he will smell like fish for a while but he is fine other wise. He is just here to help Zinnia or just have someone she knows nearby. He sighs and starts to wonder if he should of stayed at the mountain maybe.

Stonepaw grins as he nods as puts out his own paw "Stonepaw at ya service. " He nods to the badger maid "Ta Mossflower ya say. I live along de river there and can take you and I can just see it as company no need ta charge ya or least not much. Ya can help keep the ship clean maybe, get me some supplies and that could be payment enough. I go up and down de river a lot, the river she be nice ta travel on an' helping good beasts is a good thing ta do"

Zinnia smiles at this "I can buy you supplies for the trip and for your way back as well. My name is Sister Zinnia I am recorder at Redwall abbey, this is Brother Leon, he will also be going as well as my son Xander and another mousemaid named Dorarose."

"Nice to meet you," Felicity says cheerily, then quiets down as the Recorder starts talking. DoraRose stayed behind at Salamandastron to start getting the supplies ready for the return trip. Little does she know that they might have to buy more supplies to fill the boat with.

Leon nods "And we won't need the ship for maybe...let's see...4-5 days from now, then would be totally ready to meet here and head off."

Stonepaw listens and hmms, "Let's see...de boat should be able to handle that and not like I be goin' anywhere...well maybe slightly different part of the docks but still at the docks after all"

Zinnia makes a mental note, "Alright, and travel by river avoids a lot of other dangers and less travel in the snow. We will have to walk from the bridge but Ferravale is just like an hour or two from there and then it's a little over half a day Redwall so not too bad of a trip"

Felicity smiles and looks around, keeping an watchful gaze out for any danger. "It does sound lovely," she offers in an attempt of support, even though she's sad that they're leaving so soon.

Leon says, "Yes, that's good like to avoid any trouble on the way back it's not needed." He seems to think, the river is fine right? He even walked by it a fair amount of times, once a little further some seasons ago "Maybe motion sickness but other than that should be ok and we can make sure to have warm cloaks if needed"

Stonepaw chuckles "If it be helpin' any there is fish to catch along de way, lessen some of the food needed. If ya all be liking fish"

Zinnia says, "Fish is fine. We will make sure we are good on other supplies also. And we can leave during a morning as that be best also, a good nights sleep before hand and then head off"

Felicity frowns a little. She hopes Dora is okay with more fish. The mouse has been a touch unhappy the past few weeks because of the amount of fish and other seafood they serve at the Mountain. Perhaps she should've urged Rose to accompany them to find a boat... "Are there lot's o' pike in the Rivah Moss??"

Leon looks over at the hare "I don't know, we will be on the boat and not swimming, so that's good and fish is... " He looks at Stonepaw "ok maybe, we will figure it [out] by then. Thanks for helping us with a boat Stonepaw"

Stonepaw nods as he starts to head back to his boat "Ya be welcome mates, ya find me around here or nearby I shall see ya all soon"

Zinnia watches the hedgehog head back to his boat and gets an idea how big the boat is, least the outside and the inside is probably a good size she believes. She turns back to the others "Well, was not as hard as I thought it would be"

They head to....

Halyard Village: Indoor Market

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Halyard Tavern ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Luckily for the residents of this small fishing village, the fish market is

kept separate - over on the docks. The market here is... everything else!

The market is a wide open indoor space, the ceilings peaked, the beams that

support the structure naked. Stalls line three of the walls, with the usage

set at first come first served. To get the really good spaces, one must

arrive rather early in the morning. The lesser spaces, just small carts and

tables in the center, are left for the later risers. The front of the

building is completely open to the air, providing a wide entrance for folks

to arrive and depart.

[O]ut to [S]treet

"I know just where you can look for more supplies, besides fish. Follow me!" Felicity leads them to the village indoor market. There are many vendors here, peddling their wares, and the noise level in here is crazy compared to the relative silence in the Mountain Library and Infirmary. The moment they arrive at the door, a rat begins trying to convince them to buy his (cheap) jewelry. "You can buy good warm cloaks 'ere, wot!" The haremaid says cheerily, ignoring the rat.

Leon nods "We have cloaks already its mainly food we need, my supply of herbs are doing well as I didn't use hardly any while I was here. Maybe get some...rope and a canteen or two. Maybe mint as if there is any...motion illness, mint helps ease stomach"

Zinnia nods, "So 4...well 5 if count Stonepaw for the trip and he is coming back or least I think he is. He may have some of his own things"

Felicity nods and stands on tip-toe, then rests back down on her heels and gestures for the 2 woodlanders to follow her. "I see a rope makah. Ovah 'ere." She walks over to the vendor, a very greasy little rat. The tattoos on his arms and hoop earring in his left ear denotes that he's a searat, but his bent posture indicates that his searat days are behind him. He is busy tying a knot out of a thick strand of rope.

Leon nods, he follows the hare and looks around staying alert. This place is not like Ferravale and he is sure Ferravale is a little tougher maybe as a lot more woodlanders are around this village also. "Yeah, trying to think what else"

Zinnia says, "I am unsure either. Did Dora send a list maybe? I know I had wrote one when we left the abbey, but then....well I was unsure of...travel plans at the time also "

The former searat looks up at them, revealing that his right eye is covered in a patch made from some kind of animal leather. "Wot yer--uh, 'ow can I 'elp ye land lubbers, eh?" He seems to be trying to be polite, at least, even though his distaste for woodlanders is plain on his face. Felicity just smiles and says, "I was wonderin' what yer prices for rope are. Miss Zinnia, Mistah Leon, 'ow much do y'think you'll need?"

Leon says, "Not too much, but you never know when rope can come in handy on a trip. I know boat has a way to be tied to shore, so its not needed for that...but still handy I think"

Zinnia says, "Maybe...let's see....10 foot rope or maybe little less...8 Foot?"

The rat narrows his good eye and growls, "An 8-foot rope'd be 8 gold." Felicity claps a paw to her brow. "A gold a foot?! For the love of decent prices, that's 'ighway robbery, wot!" She turns to the woodlanders. "C'mon, let's go look at a different stall..." she goes to lead them away...

Leon hmms and goes to follow "Yeah a little high yes I agree"

Zinnia mutters something, and then follows the friends on to another place, checking other stalls for other needs, they pass one with sweets and she decides to go back to that one maybe, something for Xander and maybe even them, adults like candy too

Felicity looks longingly at the candy in the stall, then leads them to a squirrel who is selling rope at a very reasonable price. The squirrel holds out an 8-foot rope for the badger to look at.

Zinnia checks it to make sure it is strong and good rope, no frayed areas and nods "I think this will be fine, how much is it?"

Leon says, "I wonder if we should get something to keep that crab ok...it is a little colder at home, least right now it is"

"2 gold, miss," the squirrel answers promptly, then, turning to the mouse, points at the stall right next to hers, which is being run by a male squirrel who looks like her brother. "My brother specializes in crabs as pets. He could sell you something." The male squirrel waves and says, "Oh, aye, I have books a-plenty on crabs, aswell as things you can use to take care of them better. What kind o' crab is it?" Felicity smiles and keeps watch on the crowd, happy to be able to help the Redwall Ambassadors.

Zinnia nods and pays for the rope "Hermit crab, he found it on the beach and even has shells for it for later on"

Leon glances around, he finds a stall that has mint, after some talking he does good price for it and nods, he is soon back over with some mint and a couple other herbs he found that could be useful.

The male squirrel produces a book entitled /The Care and Keeping of Hermit Crabs for Beginners/. "This'll be the book you want! 3 copper." Felicity takes it and flips through it. "It looks accurate to me, wot!" The other vendors in the area are watching the woodlanders, wondering what all they're wanting. "Oh!" The haremaid pulls out a note. "I just remembered; Miss DoraRose gave this to me." She hands it to the Abbey Master Healer. It lists oil for Dora's axe, candles, dried fruit, and a haversack for Xander, as well as a couple of other things.

Leon reads it over and reads it to the others, "Shouldn't be too hard of these things and I saw candles, oil near the entryway I believe, a haversack not sure and some food stuff we could get at the mountain also."

Zinnia nods "yes some things like food could be gotten at the mountain most likely, I am sure Lord Ciocan can help with some food...I am fairly sure with that and maybe a haversack even."

Leon says, "That would be of some help yes, be right back" He heads to the stand where the candles and oil is and checks another stand close to it get better of the two prices before he gets the items and is soon heading back to the others.

Zinnia gets the list from Leon and looks it over, double checking things and mentally thinking if the need anything else...gee she will be glad when they are home, she can only hope all is well and that Boaz did a good job with the temporary recorder duties.

Felicity peeks at the list after buying the book about hermit crabs to give Xander as a gift. "I think 'most everythin' on there you could get at the Mountain. I even 'ave a spare 'aversack if y'need it."

Zinnia smiles as she nods "Thanks, I might get some candy nuts or some other sweets, not sure yet...I do miss the abbey but I think I will miss this area after I leave"

Felicity grins. "Well, 'tis up t'you, but I know that I would definitely buy some....but then again, I like sweet things, so 'tis only natural, wot!" She goes to guide the badger towards a stall selling sweets. "I would miss my 'ome, too, but I could see why you'd miss this place. 'Tis beautiful....even though you got 'ere at the coldest time o' the year."

Zinnia chuckles, she does pick some candy nuts and finds a peppermint chocolate kind she buys only a small bit of and some candied fruit too, "I think may be good on supplies. You know I almost didn't come to the mountain, but I am glad I did and glad I meet new friends and even became friends with the badger lord. I even got a couple hares who was arguing over some...forgot what it was, who's turn it was to do something and I told them maybe talk to a commanding officer and not Ciocan as he was sleeping at the time and...well I for one wouldn't of wanted to wake him up unless was important, they did end up going to their officer instead which was good"

Felicity giggles. "I bet they were arguin' about somethin' that 'ad to do with food. That's what the mind of us 'ares usually wandah to, wot! Ooooh, cheese buns!" As she was saying. Food is distracting. "Would you like one?? My treat."

Zinnia smiles "Sure, we should get Leon and head back before Dorarose worries"

Felicity nods eagerly and gets 6 cheese buns; 1 for Zinnia, 1 for Leon, 1 for DoraRose, 1 for Xander, 2 for the hare. Hey, off-duty is a long way away. She needs a snack. After she pays for the food, she goes to lead them back to the Mountain.

Zinnia smiles and after they find Leon they head back, they will have time to look over supplies and pack what have already and see what they get at the mountain.

Thanks for reading!
