Benar-Abbot of Redwall

Thorn-Resident and adopted daughter to Benar

-spoofed dibbuns, novices, some varies abbey beasts and Sister Ginny

A summer storm has rolled in out off the Western Plains. Rain is passing across the great entranceway of the abbey, lightning is ripping through the clouds and thunder booming. In the distance the bells can be heard ringing, alerting everyone to come inside. Benar is standing in the doorway, waving beasts inside, "Hurry now everyone inside, Sister Clementine is that everyone from the Orchard? Good ok, Elmef is that the field teams ok? Anyone seen Oz and the dibbuns?"

Oz was always one to make sure all the dibbuns were safe, some went with Sister Ginny who quickly gets inside and stats to count the dibbuns and frowns, great one is missing, a squirrel dibbun who always seems to not always listen, well today he decided he was a duck, not a squirrel, least till the loud thunderbolt sounded and he bolted off, but luckily for Oz into the great hall. Oz is fairly soaked right now as he stands in the doorway of the Great Hall entry.

Thorn walks carefully down the stairs from the library and into the room" Whoa...storm, hope no one else is outside." She is holding a simple book in her paws as she looks towards the entry at the rain.

Benar glances over at the rat and smiles at her, "Hello Thorn dear, glad you are not caught out in that," He turns back to peer outside as the last few abbey beasts race past him and inside, "Ok I think that is everyone... anyone see anyone missing?" He eyes a wet Oz and takes a blanket off a novice and reaches up to drape it over Oz's shoulders "You should go get dry Oz"

Oz smiles, “Thank you Abbot Benar, I was making sure all the dibbuns and a couple novice got inside" He pulls the blanket the rest of the way around him to start to dry off, "I do not think any other beast is outside, summer storms can sometimes come on suddenly, but usually do not last too very long"

Thorn says, "I been in the library, been getting help on my reading and writing and been practicing it" She goes to sit down in a chair, “Guess it’s a good thing I wasn't in the orchards, Or I would of probably been in one of the trees" Cause that is her favorite spot in the abbey most times.

Benar peers outside and watches the sleeting rain hammering down onto the lawns and waves as the bell ringer comes running across the lawn and inside, "Well I think that is everyone, shall we shut the doors and let this play out? Maybe we can all gather around a fire and share stories"

Oz nods, he dries off better before he sits in his chair and right away has about 5 dibbuns getting into his lap, he chuckles as one sits on the arm of the chair and another sits by his foot paws. Others look around and stay by Sister Ginny as one dibbun states "Rain is a meany, gets ya all wets"

Thorn says, "Stories are good "She blinks at the dibbun "Well never heard of rain ever getting anyone dry"

Benar wanders over to the fireplace and starts to stoke it, getting the flames going to make the Great Hall a bit warmer and homelier, "Stories are great so I volunteer you to start my dear," he says to Thorn as he takes his seat.

Oz relaxes in his chair, a novice decides to make some tea for those who want some as beasts start to settle down, a thunder clap scares a couple dibbuns who whimper a little but soon are calmed down again.

Thorn frowns"Me?...I..I don't really know many stories really, and nothing really exciting happens much to me" Well that she will tell of anyways, "I mean what sort of story?"

Benar smiles at Thorn as thunder booms and lightning casts shadows across the Abbey, "You have read a lot of books now Thorn, you must have read some interesting tales of Redwall"

Thorn frowns, she hasn't read that many but some was read to her that she remembers as she thinks "Well I have heard a lot of tales yes.....maybe one about how we befriended the sparrows?"

Benar says, "Well there you go then Thorn, I am sure everyone wants to hear that story"

Oz calms some dibbuns down as he listens quiet. One dibbun is already asleep, but others are awake.

Thorn nods "Alright, now most do not understand them and some do...as they like to use the word worm a lot. Well the sparrows or Sparra live in the abbey rooftop and we get along, sometimes they do get..ummm wild but very rarely, but long seasons ago the abbey and them didn’t get along too well when their leader was a King Bull Sparra"

Benar settles down to listen, occasionally putting logs on the fire or stirring it to keep it lit as the dibbuns and youngsters crowd around to listen.

Thorn goes on with the tell "He was..well mean, it was a mouse named Matthias was the first to really understand them and he helped one when they was injured and became friends with the sparrow whom name was Warbeak. King Bull Sparra ended up dyeing in a...well disagreement and Warbeak took over and her and the sparra helped fight off a rat named Cluny." Thorn goes on" Anyways the battle was won by the Redwallers, lives were lost as is always in..war" She frowns a little "The abbot at the time was.." Ok remember, oh yeah "Abbot Mortimer, he was poisoned by the rat but before he died he said the Sparra and the Redwallers were to live in peace with one another and we have ever since, now we don't..always get along with them as they do still keep to themselves at times, but mostly we get along"

Oz listens and nods "A good story, I have spoken with a sparrow a couple times, not very often though. A..eggchick as they call their dibbuns...one of them fell from the rafters and was brought to me, the young one was ok and reunited with their parents"

Benar says, "A very nice story thank you Thorn, the Sparras are a part of Redwall and good friends to us here. It is very nice to hear their history"

Thorn says, "I wonder why everything is worm to them though, but if you think about it, one can sort of speak to them if one listens well, just takes practice"

Oz chuckles “Yes it’s not too hard to speak to them"

Benar looks up as Sister Celementine walks over and murmurs to him and Benar nods and stands, "Now then if you will excuse me I have to go see to a flood downstairs. I will be back shortly"

Thorn frowns "I hope it’s not too bad, and it can be stopped and causes no damage"

Oz says, "Yes me as well, but Foremole I think followed him so we will hear of it later. So any other stories anyone knows of?"

Thorn shrugs "Would it have to be a story of a long time ago or could it be more recent maybe?"

Oz says, "It could be more recent or not so far off times story maybe, or some story your own even works"

Thorn nods and thinks, then shrugs "I...don't know, like said earlier not much happens to me that’s worth saying, what about you Oz? Maybe a story of your life, wouldn’t have to be sad or anything"

Oz says, "Perhaps a story for another day, it is getting late and...I do need help getting dibbuns to bed if you could?" 4 in his lap and a couple on the arm of the chair, one or two at his foot paws and Sister Ginny and a novice is already carrying some to bed."

Thorn smiles and goes to help, she carries a mouse dibbun and gets a couple novice to help carry a vole and another mouse.

Oz listens and smiles, he frowns at first when a fox dibbun, Juliana, slips off his lap and toddles over to Thorn and reaches up to her, the badger listens as he stands and swifts a couple dibbuns carefully that’s arms, one hangs onto his back.

Thorn is back and takes the paw of Juliana "I got her Papa Oz, no worries, " She looks at the fox kit and smiles, speaking slowly "Bed time...ok??" She will led her to bed and make sure others follow Oz or least those he is not carrying.

Oz is somehow carrying a couple dibbuns, and one holds onto to his back carefully as they get a ride, the badger smiles and slowly gets them to bed, a couple others follow him. A kiss and a hug, a glass of water here and there and then empty glasses are collected as he heads to the doorway and waits.

Thorn helps the fox kit to bed and smiles, she walks over to the dibbun dorm door “Well least this area isn’t flooded, huh."

Oz smiles "No, it’s not, come let us have some tea in the great hall and Thorn...thank you for your help tonight"

Thorn hugs the badger "Your welcome and tea sounds nice. I like tea"

Oz chuckles and then heads to the cavern hole making sure Thorn follows him, the rain has come to a stop now and most likely puddles await dibbuns in the morning.
