More Updates about the captives(Ferravale Log)

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

This happens in the new jail cells of Ferravale thats off of the guard shack

Bandit whistles as he scans the room. He wasn't sure if he should be so happy about having a fancy new jail to lock beasts up. It was so shiny, so new. And already had several occupants!

Off to the left A cell was occupied by a lone swift fox. The thief who posed as Bandit's sister. Inkpaw sat, bouncing a ball off of the cell wall. Across from her the cell was taken up by two pine martens. Markus the pine marten was the prime example of his species. Lithe, sleek, with some muscle about his arms. Liam however was the prime example of what his species would look like when subjected to 2 seasons of gluttony and sloth.

Both gave Bandit a rather angry glare as he walks through the jails.

Wesly was still left back in the old jail, but his new friend, a small, elderly rat with a full grown beard sat in another cell to himself for trying to sacrifice Liam to an eagle.

In truth it was all one long complicated story that Bandit couldn't really make sense of but that didn't matter. All that mattered is that the fox could now properly lock away all the beasts that gave him trouble.

Scioto walks in and looks at the cells, there is a way to look in without opening the door all the way and that’s a small window. He then looks at Bandit “Whats the report then? Have they been questioned and if so what was the reply?"

The fox spins on his heel, saluting his Chief. Or at least trying too. The wounds under his chain mail tunic and uniform are still healing. "Good morning sir! And...Which one would you like to hear first? We have three wonderful cases for you to look at."

The fox gestures towards his fellow brown furred vulpine. "Case number 1. Inkpaw vs. Bandit. This lass here heard about my 'demise' and thought she could get a quick buck by impersonating my sister." Inkpaw rolls her eyes, continuing to bounce her ball off the wall. There is little else for her to do but learn of her fate.

"Case number 2, Markus vs. surprise, me again. Little traitor has kept his mouth shut the entire time. But just as well, I'm sure Basilisk won't mind his meal to be too chatty." The fox rattles the bars of the marten's cell. "And then there is Liam vs. LongClaw the rat."

"It's about time you got here Scioto." Liam says from inside his cell. "You won't believe what I've had to put up with this past week!"

Scioto listens as he glances at all the cases and then there is Liam who speaks up. So he walks over to Liam and folds his paws behind his back “Go on Liam, explain why your here and who is this Longclaw fellow? Why are you fighting or disagreeing and on what?"

"It's a simple miss understanding, I assure you." The marten would lean against the cell door if his belly would let him. Truth be told a week on a jail house diet has been good for the inn keeper.

"LongClaw has accused Liam of murder."

"Like I said, a simple miss understanding." The marten forces a smile, "And to be fair he did try to sacrifice me to an eagle."

"I wish I could have been there to see that..." the head guard chimes, "But I digress. Apparently the long and short of it is sir that Mr. LongClaw used to work for a vineyard south of Ferravale. It's previous owners were murdered by Minks. It was an ongoing investigation before I was...whisked away. Liam stepped in to run the vineyard until the owners next of kin came to claim it. HOWEVER, Mr. LongClaw accused Liam of conspiring with the minks to GET the vineyard, hiring them to kill the owners and take the land for himself."

"If that were true why would I hire a mercenary to kill the minks?" The marten replies.

"Oh, right, thank you for reminding me. Liam claims to have sent a mercenary named Russet a while back to 'deal' with the minks. Which I should also mention, is illegal."

Scioto listens carefully to all that is said and hmms in thought. “And do we have proof of any of this? How far is the vineyard anyways, and what eagle? I know of two in the area and one is injured and can't fly"

"I don't think LongClaw had any particular eagle in mind." Bandit leans in to whisper to Scioto, "LongClaw's daughter helped bring him in. She says he isn't...all there since his employers died. But he seems convinced that Liam played a part in it. But there is no actual proof that Liam had anyone murdered..." then in a louder voice, "Aside from those Minks bandits."

"A terrible loss, I'm sure. I fail to see why anyone is so worked up over their passing..."

"Because beasts shouldn't be taking the law into their own paws you arrogant jack-" remembering his place in front of the Chief, Bandit changes his next word to, "Wagon."

Scioto holds up a paw "Alright alright all calm down. Maybe just give this land back to its original owner, whom ever that is now and let it be said and done. Or hire beasts who live there to work there and get some of the money from it and the rest the beasts who live there...keep"

The pine marten's eyes widen, "But Scioto, that's what I'm doing! The previous owners were my friends! I am just working the land until their next of kin come back to claim it."

"And profiting from it." Bandit scoffs. He is rather glad to not be the beast in charge to fix this mess!

"Hey!" Comes the shout from the cell across, Inkpaw leans against the bar, "Can you guys at least let me know how long I'm gonna be here? I mean, I've been in here a week already..."

Scioto narrows his eyes at Inkpaw, "When I decide it's time to and not till I decide what to do with you or let Bandit decide maybe what to do with you" He looks at Liam now, "Well..then when are your friends back for the land?"

The marten looks up at the ceiling tapping his paws together lenitively, "Well, I did send word to their son in Tussock...about 4 months ago..."

The fox face paws his fore head. "Right, I think it's best I send actual guards out to look for these people's next of kin. As for Inkpaw...if you had asked me before my last adventure, I would have probably said to pay a fine and send her on her way. Anymore, I think we need to start making examples of trouble makers." Crossing his arms Bandit leans against the wall next to the cell. "We have a giant snake in town, might as well put it to good use right?" Both Liam and Inkpaw give the head guard a shocked look. "N-now wait a minute! Isn't that a bit harsh? All I did was try to steal some dead beasts money!"

"And all I did was conspire to kill some bandits." Liam pauses, "Ok, that does sound bad when you put it that way. B-but Scioto, you know me. I mean...I..." for once the marten seems at a loss for words.

With a grim chuckle the fox says again, "Whatever fate you decide for any of them I am honestly ok with. You can let them go, feed them to basil, maybe lop off their lying tails as a warning to others..." Both prisoners gasp at such a thought, "You are the chief." The fox says with a shrug.

Bandit room-pages, "their fates are in your paws!".

Scioto sighs and grumbles, "I will think on this matter and get back to them" He walks away...yep he walks away. Way to go! Let them worry on their fate till he returns, he will come back...right?
