RW Abbey: Kitchen Yard

Boasting a decent view of the Abbey's orchards and gardens, this

space is mostly a work area, displaying well trampled grass and the

occasional bare spot. An especially worn spot is the path that leads

between the kitchen gardens and the vineyards.

From one end of the kitchen yard to the other, the space is nearly

filled by the tremendous gnarled trunk of an ancient apple tree,

roots and branches and boughs trimmed off and piled alongside for

later use. A deep groove of mud-churned sod and torn grass leads

back to the orchard, from where the fallen tree must have come.

There are also a variety of workshops around the edge of the yard,

the wood-shop, the cooper for making barrels. The small smithy

where the abbey's tools are made, the potters kiln and the brewery.

Zork is finishing up some wheels for something and lays them aside as he sits down with a sigh in a chair he has kept here.

Thorn comes into the area to check on a couple things she made in the kiln. She has learned to shape bowls and vases and once a plate, and knows how to, with help of course, heat the clay till it’s hard and done for painting, so right now it’s an oddly shaped large bowl and two vases and a plate she has and she has yet to paint them, they are just a dull clay color.

Zork looks over at the rat maid. "Ya need help with anything lass?" He sounds a little tried today or maybe just seems that way cause of how he sounds.

Thorn shakes her head "Benar has taught me how to do things with clay, I just have to use the paint he showed me to paint the...well items is all, I am not good at painting I think"

Zork offers a smile "Well, it's your design so no beast can tells ya your wrong I say" He chuckles. He looks around the abbey and back to what he was working on.

Thorn walks over curious "What you working on there, it looks interesting"

Zork answers "A wheeled chair, not ta worry on why lass just may be needed sometime soon. I gots da base done and will add de wheels on like tamorrow maybe, then thar just be adjusting and that sort of thing."

Thorn nods "I heard of them, they are for injured beasts, mom talked of them before and Lacota is in one of these but it’s smaller. Why is this one large for?"

Zork frowns at all the questions "Your very curious aren’t ya, like said not ta worry on it lass." He sits down the wheels and studies them and lays them down slowly.

Thorn pouts at his response and looks at the chair he is in and the wheels and rocks back and forth on her heals, "Is it for you?" She steps back as it expecting a bad response.

Zork frowns again, "Well..I.." He stops "Why ya backing up like that, de question was ok." He looks back and forth and back to her again "You’re very observant, that’s a good skill ta have lass, so I will answer ya question with a yes"

Thorn tilts her head "Why would you need one, you’re not injured or anything. The beasts here always seem to think it’s bad if you go out and that’s just odd"

Zork sighs, "Because me warrior days be over and not just cause I be a brother in de order. and tis not the reason became one either ...well maybe one faster than I would of, I mean I know all de rules and codes and charter and all that stuff and already helped a lot around de abbey so..heck still getting use ta this" He points to the brown brother robes.

Thorn folds her arms over her chest, "Ok so what’s your story, I may be 4 seasons old but I am very mature, I can use a dagger since I was almost 3 seasons, not that I sue it here..."

Zork chuckles "Ya sound like me daughter.." He then combs a paw threw his head fur and ruffles her, "I suppose I could tell ya, my story as ya call it lass"

Thorn nods "Sister Zinnia right? She helps me with reading and writing sometimes, and Benar does also and he teaches me pottery also." She sits on the grass "So go on I am listening"

Zork says, "Well ya see..tis me heart, tis not as strong as it use ta be, so..tis bad ta fight and seems sometimes have me temper go up like Patchfur tried ta cause, think on purpose."

Thorn nods "I don’t like Patchfur, he is mean"

Zork nods "Agreed, but more on..this I fought a monitor lizard ta save de abbot, now tis happen before that fight and it was an intense fight as I did injury her fairly good, and she hurt me shoulder"

Zork says, "Anyways I had pain before that, some ones and sometimes not so small but they always went away. I also had ta make weapons and armor for a beast named Marek...and repair them, but now tis back ta de abbey code of no weapons or armor making or repair, just useful things like pans, pots, nails, hinges, pieces for de gates..and other odds and ends..and de chair too”

Thorn nods," So ya having problems again?"

Zork shakes his head "No..no just, can’t stand too long, so have de chair and found out can’t walk too far and too long as it gets ta me. I don’t know maybe..anyways making de chair just in case need it ta get around earlier but making so I can still work me forge too"

Thorn nods interested in the story, "Maybe tell Leon, I seen him back but he was like real busy"

Zork blinks "Leon’s back? That’s great. Is he ok?"

Thorn nods "He seems ok, just helping a couple beasts, they had shields and there was the one that was passed out, some old mouse..looked sort of like Leon"

Zork nods "wait that may of been his dad..tis good they are safely back"

Thorn nods "Yeah they are both in the infirm. I am gonna go work on painting my pottery items inside I think, chat later Brother Zork!" She picks up the bowl, vases and plate and heads off.

Zork waves and looks back at the wheels he made.

Zork sits aside the 2 wheels and a couple other metal pieces he has before standing up again scooting the chair he brought out here back a little.

Lacota appears, being assisted by a novice. "I'm just blind, I can walk perfectly fine, unpaw me, you...you rebel!"

Zork grins as he hears and then sees Lacota "Hey ya Lacota...umm why are they bringing ya over ere' fer?" He does make sure the novice doesn’t get Lacota too close to the forge as it is on, even if he is done with it, it remains hot for a good couple hours sometimes.

Lacota frowns. "Hello Zork."

Zork nods "Ello Lacota, out fer a bit of a walk around de abbey." He straightens up a couple things .

Lacota sighs. "You could say that. I'm still supposed to take it easy, though, because of the dizzy spells..."

Zork nods, "I know all too well about takin' it easy and I don't...all de time" He looks over a couple things he has been working on, "I am done with de gate parts now, got de last hinge done earlier before worked on some other things."

Lacota hmms. "You should tell Lorimis, then."

Zork nods "I will..I will" He sounds a little tried, then he has been standing a bit today and sits back down in the chair he brought out here, "So ya dizzy spells less than they were?"

Lacota says, "Somewhat, fortunately."

Zork nods "That tis good and maybe it’s a sign your sight will be back soon as well."

Lacota shrugs. "I have no idea, Zork... Hopefully."

Zork nods "Have hope...things will get better your see, I try ta look at de bright side of things."

Lacota nods. "Aye, you're right... I do need to keep my hopes up."

Zork nods "Yes ya do" He stands to make sure the forge is totally off for the day and cooling correctly, he puts his tools away as he speaks and places a paw to lean on the tool shed, "Your be back in de..kitchens soon enough Lacota" He slowly shuts the door and locks it he frowns some and walks slowly back over to the squirrel, “Need help inside?"

Lacota nods reluctantly. "Yes... please..."

Zork nods and goes to help him somewhere, "Where to Lacota?" He then stops and reaches for his chair, "One moment...need to get something...ahhhh" He gets something he vowed he wouldn’t use, a walking staff, an older one but still good, "Ok, now we can go where weather ya like."

Lacota says, "Great Hall would be fine..."

Zork nods and helps him to the great hall, walks slowly but one to help his friend and two, well is legs hurt right now.

RW Abbey: Great Hall

The Great Hall of Redwall Abbey. Countless paw falls have echoed from these stones, and untold numbers of feasts and merry gatherings have been held here. A table, not nearly so grand or large as its predecessors, but quite functional for mealtimes, rests near the center of the hall. Chairs exist here aplenty, and they are all of a matching set. High above, the stain glass windows give the Great Hall a beautiful appearance. The glasswork is exceptionally done, crafted by a skilled artist. The floor is clean and swept. A fire is kept burning in the fireplace at almost all times of the day and night, and there are several more comfortable chairs and cushions set up here, of varying sizes. One looks large enough to easily accommodate a badger.

The Tapestry hangs proud and tall, and while the rest of Redwall may still bear the scars of natural disaster, this most famous of Redwall's relics remains unharmed by beast, time, or the elements. The figure of Martin the Warrior seems to be watching over his own with an unchanging, kindly gaze.

Soft light is slowly beginning to filter in through the stained glass windows high above your head.

Zork enters helping Lacota in and blinks catching the tail end of what the rabbit just said, "Wot goin' on now.?" He has a walking cane in his paw when he enters the room.

Jess shakes his head "I am a rabbit and in charge, how?" He looks at Zork “Do stay out of this..thank you" He folds his arms over his chest, "Vermin are the reason my mate is who knows where, if she even lives or now"

Lacota is helped in by Zork. "What is going on?"

Flicktail Frowns "Lad, do not be rude please, you obviously know nothing of this Abbey, I am a Protector beast, as all these good beasts can say. I PROTECT beasts like your mate, when I can”

Timothy reaches over to rub his shield, sighing a bit. "My apologies. I've never been able to differentiate between a hare and a rabbit." He goes quiet however, letting the two talk as he offer Lacota and Zork a sage nod.

Zork helps Lacota to a chair and glares a little at the rabbit, "Now..." He then frowns and just sits in Oz's chair; it’s a better idea right now if he stays quiet.

Jess hmmphs, "I have yet to meet a good...fox, I will have to judge you for myself for now I don’t trust you”

Flicktail says, "Well you just met one....."

Lacota makes no sign of seeing Tim at all. "Can some beast *please* tell me what is going on, as an elder of this abbey!"

Flicktail says, "And Trust is earned not given"

Flicktail says, "I am sorry Lacota, we have a guest here who has only meet evil foxes"

Zork speaks "Some....yeah what Flicky said and I have a headache some now..Wonderful"

Timothy hmmms... perhaps Lacota was blinded by the recent events that happened to him?

Jess stays standing “Yes trust be earned..you are correct"

Flicktail asks, "so jess, will you give me that chance to earn your trust?"

Jess says, "I said...we will see"

Lacota frowns, reaching out. "A guest? Welcome to Redwall, sir. Please, forgive the fox... He is harmless, but I understand your concern..."

Flicktail chuckles at being called Harmless

Zork sighs, he stops a novice "Could you please get that tea stuff for me" The novice nods and heads upstairs.

Flicktail gets up "well I am off to see if any of the night beasts know anything about this rat horde...I will be back all”

Zork waves as his tea comes, he drinks the tea and coughs, yeah it tastes bad but he drinks it and sits down the mug.

Jess shakes his head and looks at the varies beasts in the room.

Timothy blinks at the mention of a Rat horde... "Rat horde? Since when was a few rats a horde?"

Zork says, "From wot I heard it be like...less than 10 and a wildcat as well”

Lacota fumbles around for a chair. "Guest, what is your name? I am Friar Lacota... And it is my pleasure to welcome you..." He trips over a footstool and nearly falls. "Who left this here? Are the novices all imbeciles?"

Jess says, "10 is NOT a horde no....and I am Jess.." He frowns "Are you alright sir?”

Timothy smirks at Zork and nods. "You might as well make that less than seven now from what I've heard from my Order Brothers. Patchfur was in the band they intercepted when rescuing Leon and his father."

Lacota nearly shouts, "No! I am not okay. I can't see! And they just leave stuff, in the way, and I can't even cook, and I have dizzy spells and damned headaches..." He stops himself when he realizes he is ranting at a guest. "And... My apologies, sir, I should not be dumping this all on you..."

Zork looks over "Was?.." He frowns when Lacota almost falls and starts to stand when a novice comes to help Lacota sit.

Jess frowns "Blind?...I am sorry I didn’t know sir" He finally sits down himself, "It’s been a long pass season for me"

Timothy nods at Zork in confirmation. "Was, yes. From what I've heard he died of his wounds shortly after encountering DoraRose and the guard. One of the Rats escaped, one was knocked unconcious and two fell to my Order Beasts."

Zork says, "Sounds like they still need found then"

Timothy tilts his head. "Who needs found? The Other evil beasts? Yes, they do. And eventually they will be found. Be glad however to know that Leon and his father were saved from their clutches. Leon’s father however has a fever and nasty wounds, at least that is what I heard."

Zork nods slowly as he leans back in the chair, he decides he will just sleep down here tonight.
