'Blisa is as tightly shut as a clam...' or The kitten is still very, very upset from the news she recieved yesterday... or SNAKE!!!

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

Ferravale : Chieftains home

Nightbreath the ermine. Oakenpaw the hare. Ferdinand the ferret and Blisa the cat. And...a snake.

Oakenpaw Knocks on the door

Nightbreath has entered a few minutes ago, and he calls out. "Blisa? Art thou here?"

Oakenpaw Calls from the other side of teh Door "Blissa? Nightbreath? Ferdy? anyone?

Blisa does not respond, but Ferdinand comes out of the kitchen, looking frazzled and worn. He grunts a salutaion to the Seer, then goes and answers the door with a sigh. "Good day. Come in." He leaves the door open and re-enters the kitchen.

"What is going on?" Nightbreath says in a swift undertone. "I sensed angst in these premises while meditating."

Oakenpaw Walks in "Has anyone seen Blissa? or..oh Hi Nightbreath...I felt something uncomforting"

Ferdinand sticks his head around the doorframe and glares at the ermine, then sighs and ruffles his ears tiredly. "I'm afraid I can't tell you. Thir Thcioto told me to not tell anybeatht. But my main problem ith what ith thtemming from the thin I can't tell you; Blitha won't eat. The'th deprethed and heartbroken."

"That will never do," Nightbreath murmurs. "May I speak with her?"

Oakenpaw asks, "Can I elp?"

Ferdinand throws his paws up in exasperation. "Thure! Go right ahead and try! The won't thay a thing to me!" He goes into the kitchen and returns carrying a very sad, depressed, melancholy Blisa, who makes no response to seeing her friends.

Nightbreath indicates to Oakenpaw to let him start this off, and he kneels next to Blisa. "Hail," he says softly. "I won't call you little one because I know you dislike it. Why art thou acting in such a depressed manner?"

Oakenpaw Says nothing but watches.

Blisa stares at the ermine for a full five minutes before slowly saying, "Daddy said not to tell. So I can't tell you." she then lays down on the couch and stares hollowly at the ceiling. Ferdinand sighs with relief when she speaks, but he's still far from not being stressed.

"I cannot tell a lie," Nightbreath says. "His business is _my_ business. You can trust me."

Ferdinand coughs slightly and makes an inconspicous motion at the hare. Blisa shakes her head and sighs. She looks ready to cry.

"Do not shed tears young one," Nightbreath says softly, putting an arm around Blisa. "If it's that bad, then I need to know."

"But I can't!" Blisa wails. "Daddy said we can't tell /anybeast/!" "But you might be able to geuth..." says Ferdinand, smiling slightly.

Nightbreath concentrates slowly, his eyes fogging over.

Oakenpaw Says gently "You know I am an Abbey Beast Blissa, and your friend...We are not anybeast, we are special beast....does that elp?"

Blisa shakes her head and begins to cry. Ferdinand smiles wanly in silent thanks to the hare, then sighs and sits beside her, an arm around her shoulders and his forehead resting on his other paw.

Oakenpaw sits on the other side of her, close and silent.

Nightbreath picks up on what's upsetting Blisa and says nothing, waiting for her to open up.

Oakenpaw Says nothing...for now

Blisa is as tightly shut as a clam, and instead buries her face in Ferdinand's lap, sobbing softly. Ferdinand shrugs in apology, looking tired and older than his eight seasons. "I'm thorry. We promithed."

Oakenpaw says, "Well maybe we could play a game...Charades...if she doesn't TELL us...but we guess....that would be ok..."

"I would not ask you to break your vow," Nightbreath says. "I have read what ails thee already, now." He shoots a 'seriously, bro?' glance at Oakenpaw.

Blisa gives a choked laugh at the hare's suggestion, then looks at the Seer questioningly. "Y'think so?" Ferdinand raises an eyebrow (wow, that was kind of fast...), but says nothing.

"I will not embarrass thee by speaking it," Nightbreath reassures her.

Oakenpaw says, "If The Ermine say's he's seen then he's seen...you can take that to the table"

Blisa sniffs and nods, then buries her face in Ferdinand's lap again. The ferret sighs and rubs his forehead.

Oakenpaw asks, "Don't worry Blissa, We kin 'elp now Wot?"

Blisa shrugs, and her bodyguard sighs and stands up, unceremoniously dumping her in his seat, where she just lays as Ferdinand goes into the kitchen, soon returning with enough tea for three.

Oakenpaw says, "Now that Night know wot he saw you gave in a Vision Blissa"

Blisa looks at the hare and blinks. "What? I'm sorry...I was distracted." Ferdinand prepares the tea for everyone.

Oakenpaw says, "You Gave him a Vision Blissa..now we kin elp"

Blisa sniffs and sits up to take a drink of tea. "How would you help?" Ferdinand scowls. Hang it, he forgot the little tea cakes he made a few days ago. He stands up and goes back into the kitchen to get them.

Oakenpaw says, "Why any way he tells me, he said he would not reveal yer secret but e can tell me wot ta do, and I'll listen too"

The door to the kitchen opens slowly. The kitchen itself has been rendered a mess. Food is scattered about the floor, pots and pans are tossed about the room but nothing compares with the sight of the beast that made it. The scales running down its back are dark green with gold diamonds running down its spine. It's belly is a dark yellow and its tail extents around the table and out the kitchen window it snuck into. The whiptail snake is young but even so, still large enough to gobble down a mouse, rat, or small ferret. Its head looks up at the ferrets entry with a sugar pot stuck on its nose. The pot falls off and breaks against the floor. The snake simply stands there, watching the ferret. Not quite sure yet what to do about him.

Ferdinand does one of the most natural things anybeast in this position would do; upon first spotting the wreckage, he dashes up to the table, exclaiming in frustration. Then upon seeing the snake that caused it, he freaks out even more, draws his sabre, and promptly trips over a copper pot that's laying on the floor. Blisa, hearing the ruckus, springs to her feet, calling in trepidation, "Ferdy? Are you alright?"

Oakenpaw says, "Blissa...does he always do that? Ferdy I mean?"

The snake does the most natural thing that it can think of when it sees the ferret try to attack it. He attacks BACK! Moving like lightning the snake attempts to coil around the downed ferret. He's a bit on the scrawny side but, lunch is lunch. "Bassssilissssk ..." the snake hisses softly as it gets closer.

Blisa shakes her head and dashes to the kitchen. "No, he doesn't! Ferdy's in trouble!" Ferdinand discovers that a sabre is not very usefull in close quarters, and so he starts whacking at the snake's head with his sword hilt, roaring. The kitten, upon seeing the scene, dashes to the snake bare-pawed and slaps it on the back of the head. "No! Bad snake! Get off my friend! You oughta be ashamed of yourself!" which seems mildly ridiculous in this situation, but it's the first thing that came to her mind.

Oakenpaw is a Hare after all and can dash pretty well...On seeing the snake, his own heavy oaken staff moves like lightning itself bashing at snakey's head "Here is a KISS from Shelia Wot!

Basilisk finds the ferrets beatings to be somewhat annoying. Oh well, a few more moments of tightening around his prey should take care of that problem. The snake must admit the kitten coming in and bashing him on the head is, confusing to say the least. He gives her a confused look and is caught completely off guard when the hare's staff connects with his head between the eyes. His eyes bulge outward in pain and his head skyrockets into the celing. "DAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" the snake hisses. His grip on Ferdinand is loosened.

Oakenpaw Uses Shelia like a baseball bat swinging up with the heavy end at the underside of the snakey's head.

Ferdinand gasps from pain and the relief of not being squished any more. Blisa yells, "Don't kill 'im!" then jumps onto the table and goes to try and put the snake in a headlock. "Now, be nice, or I'll let the big hare kill you, y'hear?"

Oakenpaw Raises one eye brow and looks at Ferdinand "She's got Cheek...."

Hit in the head and rebounding off the ceiling into the hare's staff, again, has left the snake stunned to say the least. He wavers back and forth until the cat leaps on top of him. The snake gasps, "Getsssss off!" he begins trying to shake the kitten off, hissing very loudly as he does. He would lash out at the other beasts with his tail but, its still half way in the window. Pulling himself inside with panic the snake's movements become more erratic and violent.

Oakenpaw says, "If I were you Chap..I'd do wot the kitten says if I were you chap...ifin ya want ta live"

Ferdinand fights through his breathlessness and pain and leaps to his feet, going to drag the hare out of the way of the erratically moving snake, wishing he knew how to save the kitten. Blisa extends all of her claws into the snake and holds on tightly, then, noting how thin he seems to be, she desperately yells, "STOP FIGHTING AND I'LL GIVE YOU CHEESE BUNS!!"

Oakenpaw says, "Easy Ferdy, She's doin' fine, sides if snakey wants some food...he will settle down" Getting ready to Snake bash again.

Basilisk however is going out of his mind in panic. All he wanted to do was find a nice warm spot to curl up in after those nasty woodlanders drove him out of his home. A nice warm place, and maybe a beast or two to eat. But now he is under attack, by a kitten of all things! In one desperate move he aims himself for the kitchen window, launching himself with all his might to escape. ... He misses. The collision can be felt through out the entire house as Basilisk hits the wall next to the window. His eyes go wide then cross eyed as he slumps down against the wall out cold.

Oakenpaw moves over to pet the snake head "Calm down chap...and we will stop...talk to us...Blissa says not to harm ya"

Ferdinand yells horribly and runs over to the snake, afraid of injury on the kitten's part. Blisa, however, somehow, someway, managed to escape unscathed. She slides off the snake's neck and gets some cheese buns out of the one cupboard that the scaley critter didn't smash. She then sits down beside Basilisk's head and waves a bun under his nose. "Oakie, would you please get me a cool wet rag for his head?" Ferdinand slumps down beside his charge, pain, exhaustion and relief making him as limp as a wet noodle.

Oakenpaw says, "At least she isn't sulkin chap" he goes to get her the cool cloth she asked for.

The snake for his part slowly comes to. Basilisk shakes his head back and forth. First he smells the cheese buns next to his head. "The heck?" he thinks. Turning around he sees the three terrible beasts who ambushed the poor snake after trying to eat them. Basilisk curls himself into a ball, pushing himself against the far corner of the room to get away from them. The snake whimpers in fear, "Bassssilisssk..." he manages to hiss. His grasp of beast language is limited at best but, "Pleasssse, don't hurtssssss...." he has heard beasts say that once or twice around him.

Blisa has become a soothing, kind, friendly sort of person, and it's evident as she calmingly says, "Hush, I'm not going to hurt you, I want to help you. My name's Blisa. Is you name Basilisk? That's cool. I won't hurt you. You want food? You can have some cheese buns." She holds one out and smiles warmly, encouragingly. Ferdinand is either going to faint, hug the kitten for trying to be nice, or hit the snake again. He just needs to decide which.

Oakenpaw says, "Well Ferdy, there was the fact the snake wanted to make lunch o you"

The snake whimpers, if snakes can whimpers. Fearing a reprisal if he doesn't eat the buns Basilisk leans timidly forward and sniffs the plate with his tongue before chomping down on a cheese bun. Ok, so cheese buns taste good. Not as good as a ferret maybe but, still edible. probably not too healthy but, the snake has no concept of that. There is food and not food. While the snake mulls this over he finds that the buns have all but disappeared.

Oakenpaw offers a fishy for the snakey.

Blisa smiles brightly. "There, see? That's not so bad, right? You don't have to eat other creatures to feed yourself. Oakie, a fish is a good idea! There's a cold cooked one in the cupboard where I got the cheese buns, wrapped in a towel. Would you get it, please?" Ferdinand glares venomously at the hare, then sighs and leans his head against the wall.

Oakenpaw sticks his tongue out at Ferdinand with a smile and waves the fishy under snakey's nose.

The snake must admit the beasts here are...odd to say the least. He could eat them, he SHOULD eat them, or at the least crush their bones in his vice like grip as a warning others to leave him alone. The fact that they are not afraid of Basilisk, terrifies him. And then the hare dares to taunt him with a fish? The snake will show him! Basil strikes out at the hare. The good news is his species is not venomous, bad news is, it will still hurt if his fangs make contact.

Oakenpaw Frons he's not moving the fish "Go ahead chap take it..you in ave it"

CHOMP! goes the fish. The snake is mildly dissapointed when he doesn't manage to sink his teeth into the hares arm. His aim must be off still after bashing his head into the wall, the ceiling, a staff...twice. The snake returns to his coiled position staring at them with a half nervous look. What exatly do they plan to do with him?

Blisa goes to slap the snake on whatever the snake's equivalent of a cheek is. Let's just say the side of his face. "No! Bad snake! Don't attack my friends! He's trying to give you food! Now sit back down!" Ferdinand has decided that nausea is probably a better option right now, but he manages to keep it down. After the snake settles back down, the kitten crosses her arms and frowns, thinking.

Oakenpaw Raises an eyebrow to Ferdinand "Need some tea fer yer tummy?"

Basilisk recoils from the slap like a wounded puppy. He slinks lower, "Pleasssse....no hurt...no hurt." The poor snake may be larger than the beasts here, but he is still young. In his experience this is all wrong. Beasts don't try to kill you then feed you in the same afternoon. Why are they doing this? Either attack or don't attack. not both!

Oakenpaw says, "Look chap...do you understand wot were sayin or not...eat the fish....."

Blisa puts her fists on her hips. "I won't hurt you if you stop attacking creatures! Be nice!" the hares question causes the kitten to pause, and then she asks, "If you can understand me, then please move your head up and down." Ferdinand stands and wobbles over to the counter, pouring himself a cup of cordial with shaking paws.

Oakenpaw Leaves the fish with Blissa and moves to check on Ferdinand "You ok?"

The snake slowly nods his head. "Bassilisssk can..." Eventually the snake realizes that he is being backed into a corner by a kitten. A small fluffy kitten. "What...isss it you want with Bassilissk?"

Ferdinand takes a drink of the cordial, then murmurs to the hare, "I'm worried, I'm tired, and I think the thnake broke a couple of ribth. I feel like an oak landed on me." The snake's question gives Blisa pause, but after a few minutes, she comes up with a good answer. "I want you to be nice, not try to eat other beasts, and to be my friend." And she means it, too.

Oakenpaw takes a roll of gauze out and begins wrapping Ferdinand's ribs.

The snake stares at the cat unblinking. "Oh...you are crazziess. That makesss muchs more sssensse." The snake rears up to his full height, "I am Basssilisk. Terror of night. Ssstalker of Ssshadows and..." The snakes eyes widen as he hears the cold wind blowing against the side of the house. He may be a snake but he has some wits about him. These beasts equall food, to one degree or another, plus its warm in here. With no dangers but those who are around him. "...I am ok with...rules."

Oakenpaw says, "you best be Chap...I find someone hurt...and I will find you and feed YOU to fishies...and you best stay close to Ferdinand here as other beasts will not know yer a snake not to be hurt"

Ferdinand allows the hare to bandage his ribs, clenching his jaws as new pain assault him. Blisa brightens and claps her paws. "Oh, goodie! I don't have very many friends here. I'm so glad you're going to be! Now, the rules are: don't try to eat other beasts, except for fish or beasts I say you can eat;" (here her bodyguard rolls his eyes. He knew /that/ was coming) "you must use good manners and be nice; keep in mind that if you hurt anybeast, I'll let Oakenpaw here kill you; and, at least for now, you must hide somewhere, so nobeast tries to kill you. Okay?"

The snake rolls his eyes as he looks away. Food, warmth, safety. He must remind himself, Food, warmth, safety. Food, warmth, safety. "Yesssssss...." the snake grumbles.

Oakenpaw says, "I suggest he stay by the fire pit near Bandit's cell..in teh shadows..that way he can Talk tobandit from time ta time and stay out o sight"

Ferdinand growls as he yanks his tunic down over the bandages. "And if you even seem to be /thinking/ about harming thith kitten, I will perthonaly hunt you down and make your death ath long, thlow and painful ath pothible. Gottit?" Blisa blinks up at the hare. "Who's Bandit...?"

Oakenpaw says, "A friendly fox in the cell"

The snake tilts his head to the side, virtually unable to understand anything the ferret said because of his lisp. "Bassssilisssk...eat? Bandit?" he says hopefully.

Oakenpaw says, "No no eat no beast but fishy"

Ferdinand sighs, getting a strong impression that the snake has no idea what he said. So does Blisa, and she translates, "Ferdinand said that if you seem to be thinking about harming me, he'll hunt you down himself and make your death as long, slow and painful as possible. And no, you can't eat Bandit. It's against the rules. For tonight, you can stay....under my bed, yeah!" the ferret starts to protest, but the kitten just whips around and shouts, "Where else can he stay?! It's too cold for snakes to be outside, and we need to hide him. I'm pretty sure he values his own life enough to know you didn't make an idle threat!!" The ferret glowers, then nods grudgingly, glaring at the snake like this was all his fault.

Oakenpaw says, "you seem a little 'appier now Blissa"

The snake sighs. He has no desire to spend any more time than is necessary with these mad beasts. Maybe he will stay until it gets warmer...or he decides to eat them. Shaking his head Basilisk replies, "Yessss Bassilisssk follow...rulessss..." For now.

Blisa smiles, then turns to the hare. "I might've found a new friend. I hope he becomes nicer..." Ferdinand snorts, then grunts in pain and realization. "Your father'th gonna have a fit when he theeth the thate of thith kitchen..." the kitten gasps, and the two young beasts begin to clean up the place.

Oakenpaw says, "Well Sometimes it's good for a Fther to learn a few things bout is Daughter"

Blisa sighs and nods. "Maybe later....Ferdy, what should I do about this broken sugar pot?"

Oakenpaw says, "I think I can fix the sugar"

And so they spent the next few days cleaning and buying new food...and trying to make the snake nicer and more civilized.

Thanks for reading! Sorry about the length, thar...  :)
